ABOUT THE EVENT

THE FIU FISHING TOURNAMENT IS A ONE DAY EVENT OPEN TO THE COMMUNITY. The open ocean boat fishing tournament starts at 7:00am with weigh-in by 3:00pm. The tournament features fishing for Dolphins as well and prizes awarded for biggest fun fish such as Wahoo, Tuna and Kingfish, with an average of 120 anglers competing.

At 3:00pm the Block Party opens featuring a variety of food stations, drinks and funfilled activities with giveaways for all attendees, ending with a spectacular raffle.

Butch Davis ON NOV. 15, 2016, BUTCH DAVIS WAS NAMED THE FOURTH HEAD COACH OF THE FIU FOOTBALL PROGRAM, returning to South Florida where he made a name for himself as one of the premier minds in football. Davis will enter his third season at FIU in 2019. Davis comes to FIU after serving as a college football studio analyst, while also contributing to coverage on College Football Live, ESPN Radio, ESPN.com and SportsCenter since 2014.

Before joining ESPN, Davis served as a consultant to the head coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Prior to that, Davis had a long successful coaching career, including head coaching positions with the University of North Carolina, the Cleveland Browns, and the University of Miami. Davis had a successful 15year association with Jimmy Johnson, first as a receivers and tight ends coach at Oklahoma State University, then as a defensive line coach at the University of Miami and ending with the Dallas Cowboys. His tenure included two of Dallas’ Super Bowl titles.

In just two short seasons, Davis has transformed the football program and has instilled a winning tradition at FIU after taking the Panthers to back-to-back bowl appearances and setting a school-record for wins (9) in 2018. Davis has also won 17 games in his first two seasons at the helm, which is the most by any Panther football coach in his first two seasons.

Entering its 18th year of football in 2019, the FIU Panthers are coming off a program-best nine wins a season ago. FIU capped 2018 with a 35-32 victory over Toledo in the Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl to finish the season 9-4 overall. Under legendary head coach Butch Davis, the Panthers have earned back-to-back bowl appearances and 17 wins in the last two years.
