The center aims to increase understanding of learning difficulties in children and adolescents and to promote the development of effective treatments and prevention. It provides evidence-based strategies for families and the professionals who work with them and their children. Developmental science faculty at the center address core issues in bio-behavioral development and its application to ADHD, autism, child anxiety and depression, positive youth development, perinatal care, and mitigating disruptive behaviors in young children.

STEM Transformation Institute The STEM Transformation Institute’s broad goal is to create a premier interdisciplinary Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) think-tank and become a national laboratory for what works in the education and teaching of STEM fields. Building upon national momentum, the institute will significantly invest in STEM education and promote cross-college collaboration. The institute serves as a pillar for FIU’s diverse community with more than 7,500 undergraduate science, math and engineering majors.

The STEM Transformation Institute also coordinates the Bachelor of Arts degrees in Science Education and Math Education that are part of FIU’s commitment to the Science-Math Teacher Imperative of the Association of Public and Land Grant Universities.

These scientists are investigating possible applications of their pioneering work to advance the treatment of nervous system disorders.

As part of the initiative, SISH offers a graduate certificate in Cognitive Neuroscience. The curriculum concentrates on theory and methodology for conducting and understanding research in the field and its potential application to education and clinical practice.

Center for Children and Families The Center for Children and Families is a research, service and training facility for the advancement of child mental health. The center aims to increase understanding of learning difficulties in children and adolescents and to promote the development of effective treatments and prevention. It provides evidence-based strategies for families and the professionals who work with them and their children. Developmental science faculty at the center address core issues in bio-behavioral development and its application to ADHD, autism, child anxiety and depression, positive youth development, perinatal care, and mitigating disruptive behaviors in young children.

STEM Transformation Institute The STEM Transformation Institute’s broad goal is to create a premier interdisciplinary Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) think-tank and become a national laboratory for what works in the education and teaching of STEM fields. Building upon national momentum, the institute will significantly invest in STEM education and promote cross-college collaboration. Cognitive Neuroscience Initiative Under the Cognitive Neuroscience Initiative, FIU researchers are analyzing brain development, brain function and the neurological basis of behavior. As part of the initiative, SISH offers a graduate certificate in Cognitive Neuroscience. The curriculum concentrates on theory and methodology for conducting and understanding research in the field and its potential application to education and clinical practice.

Biomolecular Sciences Institute Biomolecular Sciences Institute (BSI) is a multi-disciplinary consortium bringing together many of Florida International University’s finest research scientists.
