November 2020 at The Deuce Golf Club

Page 1

Dear Members, As the seasons turn, it reminds me of all the things in my life for which I am thankful. I am thankful to live in this wonderful country of ours. I am thankful for having such a closely knit community. I am thankful for our loyal, supportive members. I am thankful my children are happy and healthy. I am thankful for the dedicated staff I have the honor to work with. It has been a trying year (to say the least) but I believe if we can focus on the good and be thankful for all that we DO have, we will persevere. On behalf of all the associates at The Deuce and The National, I wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving.

Nic Ingram Director of Golf nicholasi@thenationalgolfclub.com Dear Members, I can confidently say that this golf season has sped by the fastest for myself and our Professional Golf Staff. It seems just like yesterday we kicked off the golfing season.

NOVEMBER HOURS of OPERATION

As we turn the page to our off-season, please remember that the last day to post scores on GHIN will be Thursday, December 31st. If you travel outside of the Midwest on vacation, you are still able to post those scores throughout the winter. Also, any outstanding Golf Shop credit must be redeemed by the end of the year.

Golf Shop Tuesday through Sunday 8a to 5p

Thank you all again an incredible 2020. We hope you and your families have a great holiday season. Best, Nic Ingram

Practice Facility Tuesday through Sunday 30 minutes prior to first tee time until one hour before sunset

HONORING ALL WHO SERVED



Wednesday, NOVEMBER 11th Last year our annual Veterans Day Scramble was cancelled due to extreme cold temperatures. This was the first time in 16 years we had been forced to cancel this timehonored event. Although we had hoped to resume the Scramble this year, COVID had other plans and, once again, we are forced to cancel. So that we may pay tribute to the brave men and women who serve or have served our country proudly throughout the years, we invite Deuce Golf Members to bring an active military or veteran guest to play a round of golf with you, free of charge, on Veterans Day — Wednesday, November 11th. Secure your tee times on ForeTees.

If you are able to play and bring a guest on Veterans Day, please take a photo of you and your military guest (or ask our Professional Golf Staff to take one for you) so that we may include it in our next newsletter. Please send your photos (plus captions/names) to Diana Miller Cooper at dianac@thenationalgolfclub.com. Thank you! Page 2

Dear Members, I hope you have enjoyed this fall season. Even though it has been very dry, the temperatures have been perfect for enjoying the outdoors and all that it has to offer this time of the year. As we near the end of the season, I want to touch on a few points that we will be focused on over the next month:  Sod work will be wrapped up. Areas of focus were green and tee surrounds, cart path edges, and enter/exit areas.  Native areas and creek beds will also be mowed down by the end of this month.  A pre-emergent will be applied to all of our rough and native areas. This will prevent grassy weeds from growing in these areas. A post-emergent will also be applied to kill broadleaf weeds such as clover and dandelions.  Leaf management is important this time of year. We have a large amount of trees on this property and we will be using a combination of blowing, mulching, and collection by mechanical means to deal with the leaves on a daily level.  Lastly, we will be shutting down our irrigation system toward the end of the month to prevent freezing during the cold months of the year. The main part of the system is drained where the pipes are deeper, while the more shallow pipes in the common areas are blown out with an air compressor. That’s all for now. Hopefully the weather will allow you to get out and enjoy the course before winter sets in. As usual, your Golf Course Maintenance team will do its best to make your golfing experience a memorable one. Regards, Gary Sailer, CGCS Director of Golf Course Maintenance garys@fivestarlifestyles.com

Just because it’s cold outside (and there may be snow on the ground as you’re reading this!), does NOT mean it’s time to put those clubs away until spring! Keep your momentum going with INDOOR golf instruction at The National Clubhouse. The winter months offer the perfect opportunity to perfect your skills or improve trouble spots in your game so that you can be “golf-ready” next season!

Josh Nahm Director of Instruction joshn@thenationalgolfclub.com

Our indoor practice facility on the second floor of The National Clubhouse is equipped with the GCQuad Launch Monitor. This state-of-the-art technology is a real game changer. I’ll use it to analyze your swing, speed, launch angle, spin rate, distance and overall performance. We’ll then work together to formulate a personalized instruction plan to address any issues you may have. Call me at 910.610.7094 or email joshn@thenationalgolfclub.com to schedule your lesson. You can also schedule your lesson through my website (joshnahmgolf.com) where you’ll also find some helpful videos that may be of interest you. I look forward to working with you (or your kids) throughout the winter months and I hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving! Warmest regards, Josh

FOOD AND BEVERAGE MINIMUMS Throughout 2020, in an effort to lighten the burden that came with meeting your food and beverage minimums, The Deuce postponed these requirements to allow any remaining balance to carry over to the forthcoming quarter. This policy will continue through this year; however, any unspent minimum balance needs to be spent by the end of the year. You will find your unspent minimum in a box on the bottom of your monthly statement. As a reminder, only the net price of food and beverage applies to your minimum, not including tax or service fee. Food and beverages purchased for in-Club dining or take-out service at both The Deuce and The National Clubhouses applies toward your minimum. Bottles of wine or liquor also apply toward your minimum (and make great holiday gifts). The National plans to hold our annual Wine & Liquor Sale in November, offering another opportunity for you to spend your minimum. Page 6
