AUGUST 2018
Dear Members,
The heat is on as we head into the last month of summer. This month marks the winding down of family vacations and the gearing up of school. Each year, these three months seem to fly by faster! We hope you’ll be able to soak up the rest of summer with family fun at the Pool, a few rounds of golf and participation in some of the Club events we have planned for you in August. There are LOTS of opportunities for golf this month as we host our annual Ladies Tournament, The Morning Belle; Couples Golf; Family Golf Tournament and our Junior Club Championship. Our dedicated, hard-working Golf Course Maintenance Team is keeping early bird hours to ensure the property is in the best shape possible, despite the heat. Their efforts are truly paying off as the course is looking good and playing fast! We hope to see you around the Club often this month!

GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE Spencer Roberts Director of Golf Course Maintenance
Dear Members, I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer so far! The Golf Course Maintenance Team is excited to put a hot and dry July behind us and finish the 2018 summer strong. Overall, the golf course continues to be in good shape as we enter the month of August. The cool season turf, especially the greens, continue to do well battling the summer stress. To keep the greens as healthy as possible, we have made slight adjustments with some of our day-to-day cultural practices. These adjustments include raising mowing heights, rolling less frequently and keeping the moisture levels in the greens root zone higher to prevent the turf from wilting. These specific practices have a direct correlation to green speeds and firmness levels. During the stressful conditions provided by Mother Nature, plant health is our greatest priority. The team looks forward to cooler temperatures so we can make the proper adjustments to provide you with the best playing conditions possible. We will be completing our second greens aerification on the 13th and 14th of August. By doing this essential practice earlier than we have in the past, you will experience better greens surfaces during September and beyond when golfing conditions are at a premium. Friendly Reminder: Please keep golf carts in the fairways after you enter each hole until you exit. As always, we appreciate your support and look forward to seeing everyone on the course. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to contact me. Sincerely, Spencer Roberts Director of Golf Course Maintenance spencer@fivestarlifestyles.com

It may have been HOT, HOT, HOT but that didn’t stop hundreds of members from coming out for The National’s Street Fair, Parade, 5K, Family Picnic, Patriotic Bingo, Karaoke and … of course … one of the greatest FIREWORKS displays ever!
(Maybe some water games next year to cool things down?) Thank you for helping to make this year’s 4th of July celebration so much fun!
More than 60 kids and parents joined us for our Dive-In Movie at the Pool on July 7th. What a great turnout! Our next Dive-In Movie feature is The Karate Kid on August 4th.

As we enter the “dog days” of summer, we hope to keep you cool by ending the summer with a splash (actually, several splashes) as we host more Pool Parties and Dive-In Movies (details on page 12). We’re also ending the season with our popular Family Dinner Buffet scheduled for John Geiger Sunday, August 26th Executive Director from 5p to 7p. Look for a Food & Beverage menu coming your way soon. As school resumes and families get back into a routine, we’ll bring back our Pot of Gold Buffets in September . These buffets offer a great mid-week family-friendly dinner AND a chance to win some $$$! Last month we were happy to host an enthusiastic group of World Cup fans in The Mixed Grill. The group (pictured left) was organized by Michael Boyd and Mark Pederson who led chants of “Go England” which could be heard throughout the Clubhouse!
