June 2021 at The Deuce Golf Club

Page 1

Please welcome our newest members: Dear Member,

Summer is officially here and we are EXCITED! We are equally excited about hosting The Windbrooker Men’s Invitational this month! You may recall that last year’s Windbrooker was cancelled due to the pandemic. That makes this year’s event even more special to our team … and to our members. The course is in great shape, the staff is ready and we’re chanting “no rain” in hopes that Mother Nature will cooperate and help make this year’s member/guest event the best it can be! In addition to The Windbrooker, this month offers other golf opportunities which include Couples Golf on June 11th and our Ladies’ Member/Guest event, “Putters, Pearls and Polka Dots,” on June 30th. See details inside this newsletter. We hope you’re able to participate in some of these events. We look forward to seeing you around the Club often this month!

Dear Member, After a very cool and prolonged spring, summer is finally here and it’s great to be getting back to normal. June is typically one of our busiest months of the year for golf course maintenance as preparations for Club events like The Windbrooker are in full swing as well as preparing for our outside events. Weak or dead Zoysia was replaced with new Zoysia sod on many of our approaches in May and it is now rooting down and maturing nicely. High traffic was the primary reason that these areas needed to be replaced. We started using hollow tine aeration in these areas last summer to help the survival rate during the off-season. Although we have seen some positive results, we will need to repeat this process for a few more years to see the full benefits. I’m sure many of you have noticed during your rounds of golf that the PoaCure is wreaking havoc on the poa as expected. The program is moving along as planned, and is following the same pattern that we saw on our trials during the past year. The warmer weather will help the Bentgrass spread into the areas that were occupied by the poa as well as expedite the dying off of the poa. The below of the trial area versus new treatments on #7 green at The National shows a good example of what to expect the greens to look like next year at this time. Enjoy your month and please contact me should you have any questions or concerns.

New Zoysia sod on #12 approach

Welcome summer and good riddance to a very wet spring! We are returning to more normal operations and our team is looking forward to The Windbrooker Men’s Invitational taking place from June 24th through June 26th. This tournament provides us the opportunity to showcase our Club to guests from all over the country. Although we certainly want to impress our guests, more importantly, we want our members to feel proud of their Club … inside and out. As we make our way into summer, we ask that you continue to make reservations for indoor and outdoor dining at The National Clubhouse. Advance reservations are critical to our operations and assist us with planning and staffing so that we may best serve you. Thank you for your support. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Jack Meyers Director of Food & Beverage jackm@thenationalgolfclub.com

COVER PHOTO What a view! Thanks to member and resident, Mark Greim, who took this beauty shot from his deck, overlooking the 13th fairway and the greens of #14 and #15. If you’d like to share a photo of the Clubhouse, course or grounds that you personally took, we would love to see it!
