Dear Members, Summer is officially here and we are READY! Our seasonal staff has arrived and have been trained, our Pool is already becoming the social spot of the summer, and we’re pleased to see so many of you enjoying a round of golf or relaxing on the Veranda. This is the season we plan and prepare for the year round with the goal of making each and every one of your visits the best you’ve ever experienced. We did get amazing feedback from those who attended our annual Mother’s Day Brunch. Some members told us it was the best event they had ever attended at The National. Ever. I want to thank our entire Food & Beverage Team for their amazing efforts with the beautiful décor, the delectable food and the excellent service which made this event such a success. We hope to see you around the Club often this month!

GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE Spencer Roberts Director of Golf Course Maintenance
Dear Members,
The golf season is well underway and I have really enjoyed seeing everyone back on the golf course. I’m not really sure if we actually had a spring in 2018. In April we experienced record-setting cold temperatures and in May we experienced record-setting warm temperatures. Despite the fluctuating weather challenges, the golf course continues to get better each day and the team has done a great job prepping the golf course for the White Alloe. If you have been on the course this year, you may have noticed some winter desiccation on the tees, approaches and fairways. On the fairways, I attribute most of the damage to the Zoysia and Bermuda grasses experiencing a very cold and dry winter. On the tee surfaces and approaches, heavy fall and spring traffic (along with the cold winter) created damage in select areas. The team will continue to fix any problems and get these areas back to 100% as quickly as possible. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. Winter kill to Bermuda grass on #7 fairway

For as long as I have been in the food and beverage industry (an industry notorious for personnel changes), you would think that it would get easier to say goodbye to a team member. That is not the case with Kyle Durrer, our Assistant Director of Food & Beverage. Kyle has accepted an exciting position to manage multiple restaurants at Top of the Rock in Branson, Missouri. We wish Kyle the very best in his new adventure.
This month we’re proud to feature these wines by the bottle:
John Geiger
Executive Director Food & Beverage
The silver lining to Kyle’s departure is the opportunity to welcome our NEW Assistant Director of Food & Beverage … Jack Meyers. Jack is originally from St. Louis but has been a Kansas Citian for many years. He started working in KC for the Haddad Restaurant Group and Café Allegro until the restaurant closed. Since that time, for Jack Meyers Assistant Director the past 16 years, Jack has worked for Food & Beverage the Hereford House where I first had the pleasure to meet and work with him. Jack is passionate about providing quality food and excellent service and has hit the ground running as we enter into our busiest season at The National. Jack, his wife and his two children reside in Shawnee. Please help me welcome him to The National family! As always, we thank you for your support. John Geiger Executive Director of Food & Beverage johng@fivestarlifestyles.com
