March is a fickle month, weatherwise. It’s known for coming in “like a lion” and out “like a lamb” which gives me hope that we can put this crazy winter weather behind us once and for all! This month brings a major change to the Club with our closing day changing from Tuesday to Monday. We’ll get Tuesdays off to a great start on March 5th with our Mardi Gras Fat Tuesday Party. We already have a good number of reservations and members seem excited about our New Orleans-inspired menu and the live comedy entertainment planned. Check out the details on page 12 and RSVP so you don’t miss out on an entertaining evening at the Club.
CHRIS BREMS PRESIDENT We strive to keep you up-to-date on events through this newsletter and emails. Another great way to keep in touch is through the ForeTees app. If you haven’t yet downloaded and used this handy tool, stop by the Golf Shop and they will get you set up. Not a golfer? Not a worry … the app is not just for scheduling tee times. We use it for events, menus, reminders, a newsletter link and more. We look forward to seeing you around the Club soon!

For what seems to be the third or fourth month in a row, I begin my note to you mentioning the weather. February, much like January, December and part of November has been brutal in terms of the weather. More snow, cold and ice and NO GOLF! All of us who are so lucky to remain in Kansas City for the winter are very anxious for spring weather to arrive. Those of you in warm weather climates … we all envy you!
SEAN HANNA DIRECTOR OF GOLF seanh@lochlloyd.com

RUTH NEWBY PRESIDENT LOCH LLOYD LADIES GOLF ASSOCIATION
As I write, it certainly “feels” way too early to be preparing for the 2019 golf season! Bitter temperatures have dominated January and February and it is hard to imagine warm temperatures will ever return! If you are like me, planning ahead is critical in making sure we don’t miss out on any information regarding upcoming golf events. Ann Carlson has already communicated the 2019 WGSKC play dates. Please add those dates as well as the dates for our 2019 Special Events (listed on the right) to your calendar. Your 2019 Golf Committee Members are ready to help make this golf season one to remember. The members representing the LLLGA this year are listed on the lower right column. Thank you all for stepping “up to the tee” and working so hard throughout the year! I wanted to share with you the following updates and changes you need to be aware of as we approach the 2019 golf season: New USGA Rules The rules of golf are changing in 2019 and will impact your game. We hope you can attend the free seminar on Wednesday, April 3rd at 10a. A KCGA representative will be at the Club to go over all the rule changes and answer any questions you may have. LLLGA Bylaws The LLLGA Bylaws have been renewed for 2019. Solheim Cup The Solheim Cup has been formally added to our calendar of events. 9-Hole Thursday Evening Golf A weekly 9-Hole Thursday Evening Golf program will take place on the Watson Course this season. 2019 LLLGA Registration The 2019 LLLGA Registration Form may be found on the next page. Thank you for completing and returning the form prior to April 1st.

Dear Members,
JEFF STEEN DIRECTOR OF GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE jeffs@lochlloyd.com
What a winter! Inclement weather has been a common occurrence the past few months. Many of the team’s days and reduced labor hours have been spent clearing snow and applying ice melt. Working in some extreme conditions, the team has done an admirable job and should be commended for their commitment and dedication. Please see the picture on the following page of the full-time Golf Course Maintenance team; excluding management. Also, please take a moment to read “In the Spotlight” with Equipment Technician, Chris Reynolds. Chris has been with the Loch Lloyd team for the past eight years. Although the weather has limited the team’s ability to consistently work outside, they have remained productive in a variety of tasks. The course and range furniture has been cleaned, stained and stored away for this upcoming golf season. The shop has undergone major clean-up along with a few minor renovations. Our upstairs area has historically been used for overflow storage, but recently we’ve cleaned it out and built open lockers for each associate. Please feel free to stop by for a visit anytime to see the completed work.
During the winter a lot of the outside work has been spent clearing and cleaning native areas. Just two examples throughout the property include the left side of Sechrest #4 and along the creek to the right of Tom Watson #12. Once completed, we will continue clearing overgrown areas throughout the property to help promote air movement, increase sunlight and improve the aesthetics. With the ongoing winter storms, we have experienced extensive tree damage and lost a lot of limbs. Therefore, the team has been busy pruning, cleaning and chipping. This is an ongoing project that has the guys working in tough conditions. The team has also been pruning cedar trees throughout the property. You’ll notice on your next round of golf (one day!) that we have lifted the bottom 8" to 12" which will allow one to find a ball and possibly even take a swing if necessary. This should help pace of play, aid in the management of the surrounding turf and create a much more desirable look for the course. If the weather cooperates, we hope to grind all tree stumps by the end of March. A few of you driving by the first tees may have noticed a drainage project underway recently in the left rough of Sechrest #1. We should have this wrapped up before this newsletter comes out, but please see the pictures below. We discovered that the old 24-inch drain line had collapsed and, for obvious reasons, needed immediate attention. Finally, due to the extended cold weather, our spring aerification scheduled for March 11th and 12th could be postponed to a later date. We will work closely with Sean’s team to reschedule this much-needed and important agronomic practice. Also, our pre-emergent applications for control of broadleaf and grassy weeds will begin in the coming weeks, as the weather permits. On behalf of the entire maintenance team, we look forward to seeing you soon. Sincerely, Jeff Steen, CGCS Director of Golf Course Maintenance

Some changes are taking place at the Club starting this month. The biggest change is the Club being closed on Mondays and open on Tuesdays. That change affects our Burger Night (which moves to Tuesdays) and our Pot o’ Gold Buffet (which moves to Thursdays). Although change is sometimes difficult to embrace, we truly appreciate your support and understanding and we’ll do our best to make these changes as “pain-free” as possible! New this month is Wednesday Wines, a $17 wine bottle list featuring an assortment of Clubselected varietals. And, speaking of wine … we are excited to announce a new annual WINE CLUB called “Uncorked!” See details about the “Uncorked!” Wine Club on page 14 of this newsletter and sign up soon to start taking advantage of the program’s many benefits. Adding to our festivities in March is our Mardi Gras Fat Tuesday Party on March 5th. And, for you wine lovers, please join us on March 14th for a Wine Dinner featuring The Prisoner Wine Company. One of the most difficult things to do is say goodbye to a respected colleague. I am sad to report that Executive Chef Eric Barkley is leaving the Club to take a position which will allow him more time to spend with his young son. Chef Eric will be Executive Chef at Bull Creek Distillery, an event center and restaurant located in Spring Hill, Kansas. We will greatly miss Chef Eric and wish him all the best in his new endeavor. A nationwide search for a new Executive Chef has begun. Until the position is filled, Sous Chefs Bradley Brown and Justin Blayney will oversee operations. Both Bradley and Justin are excellent chefs and natural leaders so we anticipate a seamless transition. We look forward to seeing you around the Club!
