Dear Member, As I’m writing this letter, the golf course is covered in a layer of snow and looks much like this month’s cover photo, taken by Jeff Steen several years ago. The snow is beautiful but I am ready for it to be GONE! Once we thaw out, I hope we can put this cold weather behind us and get our golfers back on the course! We’re gearing up for our 2021 golf season and the Golf team is putting the final touches on our Event Guide which provides great detail on all of the member golf events held throughout the year. Look for the Golf Event Guide in your inbox soon. With Easter coming early in April, Executive Chef Damian and his team of culinary professionals have announced our Easter To-Go menus for Sunday, April 4th. See page 11 of this issue for details and be sure to place your order by April 1st. We look forward to seeing you around the Club soon!

For what seems to be the second month in a row, I begin my note to you mentioning the weather. February, much like January, has been brutal in terms of the weather. More snow, cold and ice and NO GOLF! All of us so lucky to remain in Kansas City for the winter are very anxious for spring weather to arrive. To those of you in warm weather climates … we all envy you!
SEAN HANNA DIRECTOR OF GOLF seanh@lochlloyd.com

This month’s newsletter is all about the weather. As you’ll see from the graphs on the next page, despite a slow start to winter with record-setting high temperatures, we now find ourselves (at the time of writing this) setting record low temperatures! I had Grant put together a list of all the record-setting and weather anomalies that have taken place in the short time that the two of us have been managing the property. More than we’d like to remember! It's hard to believe we’re rolling into March already. Before you know it, we’ll be aerating greens, mowing grass and golf will be in full swing. As the first quarter of 2021 comes to an end at the end of March, keep an eye out for my first QuarterlyINSIGHT report of the year. It will be full of information and happenings from the Golf Course Maintenance team! JEFF STEEN, CGCS DIRECTOR OF GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE jeffs@lochlloyd.com
Lastly, as many of you may have received and read the “Eagle Updates” ever since the ol’ Sycamore tree housing their nest went down, we have been keeping a close eye out for signs of a new nest. As I’ve stated several times, selfishly we hope to see them flourish within eyesight of the golf course. Only time will tell where these graceful and powerful birds will call home once again. On behalf of the entire GCM team, we wish everyone a wonderful month of March and hope that the spring season brings plenty of joy for all. Stay safe! Jeff Steen, CGCS Director of Golf Course Maintenance

Winter Workout Tips
Brrrr … it’s cold out there. You may opt for indoor exercise until the temps warm up but in case you head outdoors to get that heart rate up, here are some helpful winter workout tips to keep you safe: LANCE DARLING FITNESS CENTER DIRECTOR lanced@lochlloyd.com Hours of Operation Open daily 5a to 10p with key fob access
Guest Policy
No guests are allowed in the Fitness Center at this time.
Inclement Weather The Fitness Center follows the Belton School District closure policy for inclement weather.
Warm Up: Although you should warm up prior to any exercise, it’s especially important to prepare properly for your winter workouts to help decrease the risk of injuries. Start slow and gradually increase the intensity. Layer Up: As you exercise, your body generates heat and you may start to sweat. As sweat evaporates, it pulls heat from your body and you may feel chilled. To prevent this, dress in layers. Start with a thin base layer of synthetic fabrics to help pull sweat away from your skin. If it’s super cold, wear a middle layer like fleece. The outer layer should protect you from wind, snow and rain. Glove Up: When it’s cold, blood flow is concentrated in your body’s core, leaving your head, hands and feet vulnerable. Consider wearing gloves, warm socks and a hat or beanie for extra protection. Drink Up: You might not feel as thirsty as you exercise in the cold, but you’re still losing fluids through sweat and breathing in lower temperatures. Make sure you drink enough water to keep you hydrated.
Hope to see you at the Fitness Center soon! Lance Darling Fitness Center Director
