Dear Member, The heat is on as we head into the last month of summer. As in year’s past, these three months seem to fly by faster and faster! We hope you’ll be able to soak up the rest of summer with family fun at the Pool, a few rounds of golf and participation in some of the Club events we have planned. We’ll end the summer with a BANG at our annual Grog Party complete with live music and fireworks. There are LOTS of opportunities for golf this month as we host our ladies’ member/guest tournament, The Morning Belle; Family Golf Scramble, Men’s Club Championship and Junior Club Championship. Our dedicated, hard-working Golf Course Maintenance team keeps early bird hours to ensure the property is in the best shape possible, despite the heat. Their efforts are really paying off as the golf course is looking good and playing fast! We hope to see you around the Club often this month!

Dear Member, It’s hard to believe, but another summer golf season is winding down. August is the last good month of the growing season for Zoysia grass and we also start to focus on areas in the rough that we need to overseed due to the rigors of our summer weather in the Midwest. Greens aerification also occurs during this month. The dates for aerification on The National are August 16th and 17th. We have seen dramatic improvement to the greens surfaces due to our PoaCure program that we started last spring. The photo of #3 green shows how much Bentgrass regrowth we have had since the poa died out in May. It’s a great start, but we still have two more years of the program to insure that at least 95% of the poa is eradicated. We will make two more applications this September.

PoaCure Program #3 green showing great improvement

As I write this, I still do not have an exact timeline for when the new development on hole #15 will start, but the lots will be created first and then the road will be installed. The relocation of #16 champ tee and the creation of a retention dam between #16 champ tee and #15 green will be built later … most likely this fall. That’s all for now. Stay safe and I look forward to seeing you around the Club. Regards, Gary Sailer, CGCS Director of Golf Course Maintenance garys@fivestarlifestyles.com
