Thanks to the generous support of our National and Deuce members, we are proud to report that we raised $10,500 for Folds of Honor during Patriot Golf Day, held the first weekend of September. 2017

We would be honored if you joined us on Sunday, November 11th for the 15th Annual Veterans Day Scramble at The National Golf Club. We celebrate this opportunity to pay tribute to the brave men and women who have served our country proudly throughout the years and those who are currently fighting for our freedom all over the world. National and Deuce members and their guests may sign up to participate in this time-honored event. We’ll pair two members or a member/ guest pair with two of our invited military guests. The cost for the event is $125+ per person and will include golf, carts, lunch, participant gifts and dinner. The fee helps the Club offset expenses and underwrite the costs for our invited military guests, who pay nothing to participate. If you are unable to play in the Scramble but would like to contribute to help underwrite the costs of this event, we would be most grateful for your support. Proceeds from the event will be donated to a charitable organization. If you would like to contribute, please email Nic Ingram at nicholasi@thenationalgolfclub.com with your donation amount and we’ll charge it to your member account. This year we’re also offering a limited number of seats for members who aren’t able to play in the event but who would like to attend the celebratory dinner. The charge for dinner is $40++ per person with your reservations made through the Concierge at 816.746.0200 or by email to: concierge@thenationalgolfclub.com. Please mark your calendar for this moving and ceremonial event! If you would like to register, please contact Nic Ingram, Director of Golf at 816.741.0634 or nicholasi@thenationalgolfclub.com.

Spencer Roberts Director of Golf Course Maintenance

Dear Members, The cooler temperatures have arrived! The leaves are starting to change colors and the mums around the Clubhouse will soon be in full bloom. The Golf Course Maintenance team continues to stay very productive as we get closer to the end of the 2018 season. Every week we continue to complete multiple small projects and fix any damaged areas from the stresses caused by Mother Nature. The greens, tees and fairways are all in good health. The Zoysia grass (on the tees and fairways) will really start to slow down from a growth standpoint as the temperatures drop. This is an important time of the year for the Zoysia as the plant shuts down and enters winter as healthy as possible. The GCM team will implement multiple agronomic practices to ensure the Zoysia will be in good health for 2019. We hope you get to enjoy the golf course as we experience some of the best weather of the year. Thank you for all your support and we hope to see everyone on the course soon. Sincerely, Spencer Roberts Director of Golf Course Maintenance spencerr@fivestarlifestyles.com

It may be cooling off outside but things are heating up in the Clubhouse as we put finishing touches on fall events. When the cooler weather keeps you off the course, we want to make sure you have plenty of opportunity for gathering at the Club to enjoy fellow members and experience unique, memorable events.

John Geiger

Executive Director Food & Beverage

Our busy month starts with our First Fridays Happy Hour and Parents’ Night Out (also known as “Date Night” at The National). Our Oktoberfest on October 6th will get you in the fall spirit with seasonal beer tastings, German fare and a LIVE Polka band! If wine is more to your liking, our Pinot & Pork event on October 18th features amazing culinary creations with pork as the star, paired with nine Pinot varietals. For some family fun, don’t miss our popular annual Family Fall Festival on October 21st. These events (and others) are detailed within this issue. As always, if you have any questions or would like to make reservations, please call the Clubhouse. We hope to see you around the Club often this month!

This month we’re proud to feature these wines by the bottle:

Carmel Road Pinot Noir 2014

$30++ This Pinot Noir opens up with aromas of cherry and subtle notes of spice and toasty oak. The palate is rich and round, with bright and juicy berry flavors leading to a long, textured finish.

Sokol Blosser Pinot Gris Dundee Hill $25++

Considered one of the finest Pinot Gris’ to emerge from Oregon’s famed Dundee Hills. The grapes are given a slow, cool fermentation in stainless steel for three weeks which gives the wine a firm and focused backbone coupled with a lush creaminess.
