02 TOKYO ANTI LIBRARY Group Project// Competition
Brief The brief was to create an iconic 21st century ‘public library’ in the city of Tokyo, japan and debate its role in a digital age. The proposal must aim to become a solution to the frequently questioned purpose of a library in an age where we are slowly moving towards rapid digitization of most books and written text. ;I [IVI XS HIƙRI XLI TYVTSWI and outlook of a public library in a tech obsessed age. The brief was to create your own interpretation of a library which should be more than just a “space to collect and store knowledge.” How do people respond to a ‘public library’ , and can it generate a new response through its architecture ?
Concept If we question the basic idea of a library, what is it? It is a store of resources one can access, to help them expand their knowledge, to stimulate thought, or gain information about a subject to aid them in the process of thinking. The public library will serve as an iconic landmark, and generate a response through its form. The library would be an ever evolving organism, responding to the needs of its users. We focused on the idea of creating 2 kinds of spacestransitory spaces and spaces of rest where people would physically pause to form their ideas. The pods are the nodes of activity. We interpreted the whole process as a series of contrasting spaces, juxtaposed against each other to enhance the experience of the user.
E v o l u t i o n o f
The spaces turn inwards while maintaining a balance with the outside, through openings and punctures.

//03
The main activity nodes are the spheres. This is where ideas come to life, much like activity in aneuron
Location The site is located at an edge of Kabukicho district and against the railways coming from Shinkjuku station
Vertical circulation is provided in the building in the form of ramps and stairs and elevators for quickaccess
Transition spaces intended for movement, narrower in comparison to the activity nodes/ spheres
Enclosed underground entrance tothe library
//04
The use of contrasting spaces - narrower spaces are intended for movement and thinking, when the user spills out into the main WTLIVI XLI] ƙRH themselves in a place of activity, a place where they can create. After this they can then again QSZI SR XS ƙRH themselves in a restful transition space, where they can think and move on to create again.

The planning was done in such a manner that the munshi would be able to keep an eye on the lock ups at all times and also supervise the stairs leading up to the barracks at the same time The munshi’s room and SHO’s room are faced by courtyards, and are segregated by using removable panels. These panels can be folded down, to expand the space outward into the courtyard, where police persons could assemble

ART MUSEUM Group Project// Studio
Brief To make a museum where the users are not just viewers, but engage in the process of creating art. The brief wanted the spaces in the museum to be more interactive and not just mere displays. The brief was to create a space, which promotes the ‘idea of making’ and promotes art by engaging users in the process of making art, creating not just a space for displaying art, but spaces where interaction is encouraged.

Concept Inspired by the form of the nautilus shell, the geometry and the sway of the form are balanced by the rigid geometry of the rectangles. Balance is created in the composition by varying the angles at which the planes are tilted, and increasing their width gradually. This gradual decline and rise of the shapes is a way to recreate the organic dynamism of the nautilus shell, turning it into a living, breathing organism with a dynamic vocabulary.
Materials Jute rope to emphasis planes and construction steel for the frames .

Is there any way the sun breakers could be responsive to the weather conditions, and bring in air which only cools the building, as opposed to the static perforations which let in all kinds of wind
Concept Designing a facade for Chandigarh, which responds to the weather conditions of Chandigarh Combining the form of an iris and a funnel, with two twisting panels, to act as a channel for harboring the venturi effect and bring cool air in.
