Collier Schorr (American, b.1963) is best known for her unique photographs. She was raised in Queens, NY, and studied at the School of the Visual Arts in New York City. In the 1990s, she worked as an art writer and occasional curator. Influenced by Andreas Gursky (German, b.1955) and Thomas Ruff (German, b.1958), Schorr traveled to Germany, where she studied the land and drew inspiration for her work. Her photographs often feature costumes, props, and iconic images combined with symbols of gender, youth, stereotypes, and identity. She has depicted male models in female poses, high school wrestlers, and young boys outfitted in Nazi uniforms. The ability to juxtapose strikingly conflicting images is a hallmark of her work. Her photographs are sensitive, moving, and thought-provoking. Sexuality is often an underlying theme, and she is popular with the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community. Her work has been showcased by the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, the Jewish Museum in New York, and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. She continues to live and work in New York.

By using plentiful natural materials such as solid wood, the material expresses the texture and texture unique to the real thing.
