e extend heartfelt appreciation to all our supporters during 2020. The myriad ways that people expressed their support during such a tumultuous year was very uplifting. We extend sympathy to all those who experienced loss from COVID-19 and are acutely aware how fortunate we are to be open and serving our grateful public.

Like so many other organizations and businesses in our community, we closed our doors to the public on March 17, 2020. As a National Historic Landmark, we felt a keen sense of responsibility to get back to serving visitors just as soon as we possibly could, once safety protocols were in place. Our operating budget was reforecast to allow for a much tighter operation while gate revenue ceased. We reduced expenses and remained focused on the constant needs of our buildings and property. We learned from, and shared with, our tireless colleagues in the cultural community. Our staff team was vigorous, enthusiastic, and present. Each member of our team worked very hard to contribute to the collective effort of reinventing the visitor experience. Our Members, donors and grantors were the sustaining force in allowing us to move forward, with hope. On June 9, 2020, we reopened to visitors. The summer and fall months demonstrated a steady increase in attendance and allowed us to imagine a return to live programming in 2021 and beyond. We are different, yet the same. We are optimistic, again.

Whitehall serves as a daily reminder that a beautiful Gilded Age home is a place of comfort and safety in good times, and bad. And Henry Flagler’s legacy continues to remind us that working hard to achieve big goals is a timeless notion. Our 2020 Success Story

anuary, February and the first two and a half weeks of March launched us into 2020 in the usual fashion, as we approached what we thought would be the height of the Palm Beach Season. Annual programs were well attended, the Café des Beaux-Arts was busily serving tea, and Whitehall was abuzz with general admission visitors, docent tours and school children on field trips. More than 9,100 people had visited the Museum by March 17th when the decision was made to close temporarily due to the worldwide pandemic caused by the COVID-19 virus. The Museum was one of Palm Beach County's first cultural arts organizations to reopen on June 9th with a New Visitor Experience and Public Safety Protocols in place. Despite the restrictions on capacity and cancellation of events, total Museum visitation more than doubled to 19,618 by the end of the year.

Music students at U.B. Kinsey/Palmview Elementary in West Palm Beach took a master class with Flagler Museum Music Series performers American String Quartet on February 24th as part of our education program.
The sidewalk between Whitehall's South Porch and the Cocoanut Grove was repaved in February. The Flagler Kenan Pavilion skylight, as well as windows on the first floor of Whitehall, underwent repairs to prevent leaks and received fresh coats of paint. New cleaning protocols were put in place throughout the Museum, resulting in a GBAC Star Facility accreditation in October.
Educators were invited to Teacher Appreciation Hours in October for complimentary tours and free educational resources, held simultaneously with a Flagler's Spirit book drive to promote literacy.
The Museum Store refreshed its online store offerings with specially curated packages. It also updated its children's literature section to include recent awardwinning titles representing diverse cultures to complement its existing library of illustrated classics and Floridafocused tales of interest to all age groups.
