On August 23, 2021, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for use in individuals 16 years and older. This prompted many higher education institutions to enact vaccine mandates for faculty, staff and students. Surveys have shown that a majority of college students support these mandates and want their institutions to require vaccines on campus. In addition, most students support mask mandates and want more stringent restrictions on large social gatherings.
