It is also the month that has shown the greatest percentage increase in COVID-19 infections since the peak of the pandemic. This is mainly due to the many variants that have spun off, but primarily the Delta variant and its dangerously high viral load. Due to the high spread, many companies and organizations are debating if they should require vaccines as part of their reopening responsibly plan.

It is currently allowed for businesses in the US to require employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19, according to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). State laws on the matter vary, with some cities requiring proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test for employees and customers before entering a business, while other states are working to eliminate vaccine requirements. Employers have the right to decide whether or not to mandate vaccines for their employees, and courts have supported this decision. Many businesses, including Disney, Tyson Foods, Microsoft, and Google, are now requiring proof of vaccination for employees. Some workers have expressed that they would quit if their employer does not mandate vaccines, and 70% of employees want stricter vaccine policies before returning to the office. Employers should also be aware that certain groups of employees may face barriers to receiving the vaccine and may be negatively impacted by vaccine requirements.
