international trends LV’s Lucky Charms!

On the occasion of the opening of its first Maison in Shanghai, Louis Vuitton unveils a collection of fine jewellery charms inspired by the Art of Travel. The romance of the early days of travel is captured in a steamboat and a blue lacquered locomotive: a playful nod to the centrepiece of Marc Jacobs’ Autumn/Winter 2012-2013 women’s ready-to-wear presentation. Another charm representing an early motorcar recalls the beginning of the adventure of Louis Vuitton with the world of automobile. A preciously decorated hot-air balloon and an aeroplane both celebrate the conquest of the air and the modern era of travel. For over ten years, Louis Vuitton’s key moments have been marked and remembered through its charms collections. Back in 2001, Artistic Director Marc Jacobs created the Charm bracelet: a bracelet with playful and generous charms which celebrated Paris and the Art of Travel. These first charms continue to be revisited and have become collector’s items. Since then, Louis Vuitton celebrates milestone events with the launch of new charms. For the opening of its first Maison in Shanghai, a Lion Dance charm has been exclusively designed. www.louisvuitton.co.uk

Gaga’s Gone Dark, Sensual & Light!

Multi-platinum and Grammy Award-winning artist Lady Gaga announced the worldwide release of her first fragrance, LADY GAGA FAME, in December 2012. Gaga’s first fragrance, released through the Artist’s own Haus Laboratories in association with Coty, is the latest breakthrough expression of her creativity. Bound to surpass all norms and standards in the fragrance industry with its innovative technology, LADY GAGA FAME is the first ever black Eau de Parfum that sprays clear and becomes invisible once airborne. The blackto-clear fragrance is a fantastic innovation of patent pending fluid technology, exclusively launched with LADY GAGA FAME. Gaga collaborated with fashion industry legends in the creation of LADY GAGA FAME: the bottle was designed in collaboration with Nick Knight, and the ad campaign was directed and photographed by Steven Klein. The scent is built around three main accords: dark, sensual and light. The dark accord was inspired by Belladonna, the deadly nightshade possessed by haunted beauties since the 18th century. From this darkness, the fragrance evolves to a sensual accord of opulence, a fusion of dripping honey, saffron and apricot nectar. And lastly, the light accord whispers magnificence. The rich floral layer of crushed Tiger Orchid & Jasmine Sambac embodies timeless beauty. The accords work together to create a fragrance of floral and fruity elements, with the star ingredient inspired by Belladonna leveling out the whole fragrance and giving LADY GAGA FAME its signature as a scent.

The Fruit of Success

Balenciaga opens its door to the fash-pack of Rome by opening its third boutique in the Italian capital. All Balenciaga boutiques across the world share the same DNA; the fruit of a unique experience designed by Nicolas Ghesquière, Creative Director at Balenciaga and artist Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster. Yet each concept remains consistently boutiquespecific and is inspired by the city or the culture of where it’s located. In Rome, the spirit of the location and its décor is that of a typical Roman apartment. The boutique is intimate and welcoming, like the palace interiors of the Roman nobility. On the ground floor, we find the reception rooms. Three large, convivial spaces lie beneath incredible arches, with vivid marquetry flooring incorporating several rare woods and marble, alongside carpeting evoking the floor’s motifs. The first floor is where the private apartments are situated. This series of rooms provides a more intimate ambiance in which to present the collections. To strengthen the feel of a Roman apartment, the seating and the designer lighting, such as the creations by Gae Aulenti, add the finishing touches to the interior and define the movement within the space. As with every Balenciaga boutique, the lighting has been conceived with the utmost care and enhances the spirit of the location and the floor’s graphic effect. www.balenciaga.com

WakeTerra Nera Coffee Exclusively Available at Harrods

Renowned for being the most expensive and luxurious coffee in the world, Terra Nera launches exclusively at Harrods this December. Sourced from Quechua in the south east of the Peruvian Andes, the production of this coffee is integral to its indulgent taste. Coffee cherries pass through the stomachs of civet palm cats and are then collected, washed and dried on specially built elevated tables to be processed immediately in the jungle. Known as Uchunari, civet palm cats live with the coffee farmer where they roam freely around the house and plantation. The coffee is highly exclusive with limited availability that is dependent on the natural order and mood of the Uchunaries. With one of only three Uchunaries passing away recently, yearly production of Terra Nera coffee has now decreased by one third. Terra Nera has created six grades of the coffee with 0 being the top tier. At this grade only the finest beans are hand-selected. Lost & Found

BIJOUX

The Smithsonian Institution is home to some of the finest, most treasured, and intricate pieces of jewelry that survived centuries moving from home to home until finally landing on the comfortable throne where they belong. By Hend Seif el Din

The Hall Necklace

Designed by Harry Winston, the diamond and sapphire necklace features 195 carats worth of sapphires from Sri Lanka, accented by a total of 83.75 carats of diamonds.

The William Sherman Diamond

A gift from the khedive of Egypt, in 1865, to General William Sherman for his daughter’s wedding, the diamond is one of five from the original necklace. The latter was divided amongst the civil war general’s daughters. Cecilia McCallum Bolin donated the 8.52 carat jewel to the Smithsonian in memory of her mother.

Paloma Picasso’s Kunzite Gem Necklace

Native to Afghanistan, Paloma Picasso incorporated the 396.30 kunzite gem into her 1986 necklace, designed in honor of Tiffany & Co.’s 100th anniversary. Set in 18k yellow gold, the kunzite lies amidst a diamond ribbon. It is further adorned by South Sea pearls.

The Bismarck Sapphire

Weighing 98.57 carats, the sapphire is mounted in a Cartier necklace. Named after its donor, Countess Mona von Bismarck, it was donated to the Smithsonian Institution in 1967.

The Marie-Louise Diadem

Probably a gift from Napoleon I to Empress Marie-Louise– his second wife–in 1810, the diadem was originally part of a larger set, designed and created by Etienne Nitot et Fils in Paris. The empress later endowed it to her aunt, Archduchess Elise. A descendent of the Archduchess–Archduke Karl Stefan Hapsburg–sold it to Van Cleef & Arpels in 1953, who later mounted turquoise to replace the emeralds, which had previously been sold separately. Exhibited in the Louvre in 1962, it was purchased in 1971 by Marjorie Merriweather Post for the Smithsonian. The diamonds in the diadem amount to a total of 700 carats and the 79 turquoise stones add up to 540 carats.

Marie Antoinette Diamonds

Weighing 14.25 and 20.34 carats, the two pear-shaped diamonds once belonged to the queen of France, Marie Antoinette. After her demise during the French Revolution, they were obtained by the Russian Grand Duchess Tatiana Yousupoff. Obtained by Pierre Cartier and later by Marjorie Merriweather Post in 1928, Harry Winston later reset the large stones into their platinum settings in 1959. Mrs. Eleanor Barzin, Mrs. Post’s daughter, donated the earrings to the Smithsonian in 1964.

The Hazen Diamond Necklace

Designed by Harry Winston, the Hazen diamond necklace amounts to 131.4 carats. Including numerous cutting techniques, the necklace was donated to the Smithsonian in 1979 by Mrs. Lita Annenberg Hazen.

interview

PENELOPE CRUZ

CRUZING THROUGH LIFE Penelope Cruz is one of the world’s most envied starlets. As talented as she is beautiful, she has blossomed into a Hollywood heavyweight and female icon in her late thirties. Leading French beauty brand Lancôme recently appointed Cruz as an ambassadress. In this intimate interview she reveals what it’s like to be a beauty icon, actress, wife and Hollywood celebrity. FLAIR introduces…Penelope Cruz By Alexis Brown

Y

ou have been Lancôme’s ambassadress for two years now. What kind of relationship do you have with the brand today? I have a very good relationship with Lancôme. I think it has been like that since the beginning – very easy – also because I know the people I am working with. It is important for me to be comfortable, to have a personal relationship and to know that I am in very good hands, very well taken care of, and very protected. I am working with very professional people. I like how everyone at Lancôme pays attention to detail. It makes me feel like I am in another era: things go so fast while technology is eating us up that nobody remembers how important it is to take care of details anymore – but everybody from Lancôme I work with has that virtue, and I appreciate that very much, because it creates an atmosphere and a rhythm that is something I can really identify with. What is your favorite aspect of being a Lancôme ambassadress? I love that I have a real connection, a real history with the brand. I also have a real past with the product for which I am the spokeswoman. Trésor was my first perfume. So when I talk about it, I can attach it to a lot of memories. I think that always comes through. When you talk about something that really means something to you, you don’t have to make up stories. I am able to talk about a product that has a significant meaning to me because it is attached to special moments in my life. How do you feel about being a Lancôme ambassadress alongside such women as Julia Roberts and Kate Winslet? It is great. I feel like I am in the best possible company. I admire their work very much and know them both a little bit. I couldn’t imagine being in the company of better female artists. What have you particularly enjoyed discovering about the Lancôme universe and Lancôme’s philosophy? The feeling…the essence…is very similar to what I felt when I saw the first campaigns. I was 14 when I saw Peter Lindbergh’s work with Isabella Rossellini. That really got my attention. I wanted to look like the kind of woman they portrayed. I liked the mixture of confidence, strength and sensitivity, and her pride in her femininity. She was a very romantic figure, but at the same time very strong. That feeling is back again…in the way the brand talks about women. I like that; it reminds me of the impact those images had on me when I was still a teenager. I knew I liked what I was seeing. It is a way of celebrating femininity that is not corny. It is strong and has character. It is beautiful. It would appear that you and Lancôme truly share the same vision of femininity. Do you truly feel like a real Lancôme woman? Due to emotions, strength, your point of view on the world around you? Yes, I identify with the messages that the brand wants to put out there. I do not feel that selling any aspect of their message would be a betrayal to myself. I really identify with it and with the work ethic of the people I work with. It is important for me to work with good people. I know that the people at home might not care about that when they decide which product to buy, but I care about that. What is your definition of beauty? I read somewhere that people born under the Taurus sign are people who really love and admire beauty. I don’t know a lot about astrology, but I really identify myself as a Taurus in that respect because I love beautiful things, looking at beauty, as well as at beautiful women. It doesn’t have to be within the parameters that society dictates. My definition of beauty is much more open, much more without rules. It can be the face

39

of a beautiful 90-year old woman that is full of stories and emotion, as long as it communicates something to me. Beauty is in what somebody’s eyes communicate. Does it have more to do with radiance or intelligence? You can see everything that a person is in his or her eyes. That is why beauty is a very complex thing that cannot be put in a cage by some people who write

about fashion and want to limit it to some rules. I have an allergic reaction to those rules. I have always been like that. Where I grew up, those rules have not had such an effect on society. They have had some effect, but not as much as when compared to a place like Los Angeles, for example. I grew up in my mother’s beauty salon which allowed me to really see what that place was for a lot of women. Women did not go there to

please somebody else, but rather to create the image they had of themselves. It could even be therapeutic for them. They were all beautiful in their own way. Do you believe that the eyes are the mirror to the soul? Yes, I think the eyes are the mirror to the soul. I think that if you really look at somebody and remove all the filters and judgments, you will be able to really see who that person is.

What are your favorite Lancôme products at the moment? I love the Trésor perfumes, and all the new lipstick colors of the Rouge in Love range. They are all beautiful. I love the one that is really dark purple, not to wear every day, but for evenings. I love the navy blue Vernis in Love color as well. I also adore the Hypnôse Drama mascara that I am wearing today; I have tried other mascaras and I think it is really the best one on the market. And finally, I love the Visionnaire serum. What type of make up do you wear during the day and for special events in the evening? I do not wear a lot of makeup during the day. I use daytime skincare such creams and serums. I also put on a little bit of blush, lipstick, and some mascara, but not a lot more. I wear make up in the evening when I am going to a premiere or something like that. I like wearing strong eye shadow in brown or black. You have a stressful schedule this year starting with the launch of the Sergio Castellitto film in which you play the leading female role. Can you tell us more about your character in that film? The character goes from the age of 23 to around 50.

She goes through an amazing journey. She is infertile and cannot have children, so she looks for every possible way to have a child. She is obsessed with that idea. She ends up having a child in a very unconventional way and this child is truly the love of her life. I can’t say more without ruining the book or the movie. At the end of the movie, you discover how she found this child. It is a really heartbreaking story that also talks about the war in Sarajevo. I was there for such a long time that it became much more than just doing a movie. I was able to talk to the people who experienced that war and to try to understand them. Not even they can explain how the war started and how it got so bad. It encompassed Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Slovenia. You can only understand what the people of Sarajevo experienced if you go to Sarajevo and physically see where it happened. Sarajevo is in a valley and they were completely trapped. For me, working as an actress and being able to go there and spend time with the people who went through that has been one of the most interesting and significant experiences I have ever had. It was interesting to understand it, but also very sad and frustrating to know that similar things keep happening in places that are not so far away from us and that sometimes nothing is done about it.

How was seeing yourself age with make up? That was a very tricky process because we couldn’t do too much, but it had to be believable that I was really 52 years old. We didn’t want to use too much make up. We didn’t want a mask because we wanted my face to be able to move. But your face doesn’t have to change much to look 52 years old. Only a few things have to change. I am very pleased with the results. I thought it was believable. When I saw it, I looked like a 50-year old woman. My preparation also included finding what my character would look like at that age. She doesn’t move the same way, talk the same way, or look at people the same way. She has gone through many more personal and internal wars, which shows on her face. Did you read the Margaret Mazzantini book before working on the film? I read the book many times beforehand. I also had the book on the set in three languages: Italian, Spanish and English. It was like my Bible. The character’s every thought was in that 600-page book where everything happens to her. I really needed that book next to me at all times. It was great to have it as an inspiration.

41

This is not the first time we have seen you take on a dramatic role. Do you like this kind of character? Yes, I love dramatic roles. I also love working on comedies. That is not to say that comedies are easier, they are not. Playing a character like this required a lot from me in every way. It was one of the most difficult characters I have ever played. I love that, though. I love going to the set and feeling terrified. Do you like to break your heart with strong emotions? Sometimes you suffer, but you still feel in control because you develop a way to protect yourself so that you don’t take your character home every night. Sometimes, you might take 50% of the character home with you, but it doesn’t take over your life. It will surely affect you in some ways, but it doesn’t take over. Let’s talk about Woody Allen’s film. Was it a pleasure to work with him again? It was a real pleasure to work with Woody Allen again. It was really fun because I play the role of a prostitute who walks around the Vatican in a miniskirt and dark glasses saying that all the art has been stolen. It was a very funny role to play. I love working with him because he makes me laugh all the time, no matter what he does. He is very clever, charming, and charismatic. I love spending time with him and feel very privileged to have been able to work on two films with him. I hope we do many more. How would you describe your character in this film? She is a very professional prostitute who defends her profession. She also sometimes acts as a therapist for the men; that is her approach. That was not written in the script, but that’s what I had in mind when I was playing the character. Woody doesn’t want us to talk too much about the story before it comes out, but it was a lot of fun to walk around Rome in a red mini dress, blond hair, and glasses.

Most of the film is set in Rome in Italy. Do you like that city? I love Rome. I have a special relationship with this city because I have worked with a lot of Italian people whom I love very much, such as Sergio Castellitto and his wife, Marguerite. I have also filmed movies there before. And above all Italy: I feel it is very similar to Spain. You have done so many things. What do you still want to achieve in your professional career? I want to try to keep choosing well and to always take the time to prepare each character…to really enjoy that process. It is nice to take two to four months before shooting to research who that character is. That process and shooting are my favorite aspects of making a film. I enjoy it much more than going around doing interviews, talking about the movie and talking about the result. Other people can analyze the result, that’s not my job. Before I used to work on one project after the other. Now this is different because I have other, personal, priorities. When I say yes to a character now, I want to have the time to prepare it and really study who that person is. How do you feel when you are acting in a film? Is it always like a dream come true? Do you feel a sense of accomplishment? I always enjoy acting very much. I have a passion for acting. Acting also allows me to continue exploring and learning. You can never get to the point where you feel as if you know too much about it because you will always be playing a new role. No two people in this world are the same. Acting is always a fascinating adventure that always feels new because each character takes you to a new place. What dream role have you not played yet? Is there a role you would jump to play? There is a role that I have always wanted to play, but I

am still slowly developing it. I still have a few years ahead of me to get to play that role, but for now I am looking forward to what will come. What values would you like to pass on to your children? I would like to pass on the values my parents taught me: caring for other people and always trying to help others when you can. When it takes sacrifice, when it takes an effort to help somebody, then that gives it more value. I have been graced with a family that sees family as the most important thing in the world. In terms of family, you seem very close to your mother. I am very close to my mother and father as well as the rest of my family. What is your relationship with your mother? Is she close to you in your daily life? My parents are very close to me because they are very young. That has allowed us to always be very close friends and we have always been able to talk about everything. It will always be like that. People say that your thirties are the best time of life, would you agree? I think the thirties are the best time of my life. I feel better now than when I was 20 or a teenager. Hopefully I will be able to say that about every decade. That is how I feel now. What can we wish you for the future? You can wish me good health. That is what you always hear your grandparents talking about, and it seems boring, but then you realize that it is really the most important thing in life. If you don’t have your health, you have nothing. But you don’t know that until you experience some terrifying things in life.

What is your luxury of the moment? Laying in the sun on a beach!

What other profession might you have practiced? Dancer. Pediatrician. Teacher.

Karl Lagerfeld, John Galiano and Azzedine Alaia.

Who are your favourite artists? Pedro Almodóvar, Won Kar-Wai, Meryl Streep, Jean-Luc Godard, Fellini. My favorite painters

How would you define your character? Determined. Stubborn. How would you define your style? It varies a lot. It depends on the move or the character I’m playing, which always affects me a little bit. What do you do when you’re not shooting a film? I’m always very busy. My absolute priority is my family. Your greatest source of personal satisfaction? My family and friends. It has always been like that. I have kept the same friends I met as a teenager. Your greatest strength? I would say that I am very persistent and I believe things are possible even when they are difficult to achieve. . What are you most proud of? When I feel that I have helped someone, even if it is just one person. There is no greater feeling. Of course, the more effort it requires the better you feel afterwards. Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Happy and healthy, I hope! As a woman, what is your favorite memory? The birth of my son. And as an actress? My many wonderful experiences with my friend Almodovar. I hope we will share many more. What do you see as the most essential quality in a person? Compassion. Honesty. What do you hate the most? Violence. Lack of respect towards children. What is your favorite color? Vanilla. What talent do you wish you had? I would love to play the piano.

Kate Winslet BEAUTY GIVING BACK Kate Winslet is undoubtedly a Hollywood heavyweight known for her infinite acting talent, British beauty and graceful glamour. Nevertheless, only a few know that this starlet exudes so much more beauty from within. In this intimate FLAIR exclusive, the star reveals how she started her quest against autism, enrolled Hollywood’s biggest stars on this journey, then successfully appealed to Lancôme for a beautifully supportive hand. FLAIR introduces you to Kate Winslet; this is the story of beauty giving back... Special thanks to Lancôme

THE GOLDEN HAT How did the project start? Why did you decide to support autistic children and their families? The project began in the summer of 2009, when I was approached to do the English-language narration for an Icelandic documentary, which is called “A Mother’s Courage - Talking Back to Autism” (a.k.a. “The Sunshine Boy”). It is a mother’s story of her experience with her non-verbal autistic child, Keli Thorsteinsson, who is now 13. The mother, Margaret Ericsdottir, was told he was retarded and would never function like his peers. She had really given up hope and had decided that, even if she couldn’t do anything for her child, at least with this documentary she could try to help other families and other children, simply to raise awareness about the mysterious condition that autism really is. While she was making the documentary, she came across a technique which was successful in helping nonverbal autistic children to communicate. After a lot of dedication and hard work, her son began communicating for the first time ever. She had never believed that he could hear her, or comprehend what she was saying, or what the people around him were saying, but it turned out he had been able to do all these things; he just couldn’t communicate them. Having narrated the documentary, I was so moved by Keli’s story that I found myself feeling that I had to do more. I couldn’t just let this experience happen to me and then walk away, having been somewhat educated about the condition of autism, which remains very mysterious and for which there is no known cure. There are many nonverbal autistic individuals who have brilliant brains, but they’re completely trapped, locked inside their bodies. I kept in touch with Margaret, and the idea for the Golden Hat Foundation came from a poem she sent me that Keli had composed with his teacher, called “The Golden Hat.” It’s about a hat, which – when put on by an autistic child – magically enables them to speak, to enter a world where they are free of the condition. My idea was to use a hat of mine, and to ask as many famous people as I could to photograph themselves with it on, and then to put all these photographs in a book together with Keli’s writings. Initially, the project was quite small-scale, but the idea caught on so quickly that I got to the point where 40, 50, 60, 70, 80 and now over 100 people had taken a photograph for me. And so I thought I had to do even more with this idea and I decided to establish a foundation. Our aim is to build an assisted-living community so that, when these non-verbal individuals reach an age where they need to be relatively independent of their parents, they will have a safe place to live. There will be staff to take care of them, and they will be able to continue their education or training, and actually live as normal a life as possible. It’s a huge, exciting undertaking, and it’s just nonstop, but I’m very, very determined to make it a success.

You’re the mother of two young children. Is that the reason you’ve been so touched by autism? I think that, being fortunate enough to have two typically-developing children of my own, who are very expressive and imaginative and affectionate, I was struck by how terrible it must be for a parent of an autistic child not to be able to hear their child tell them that they love them, or even to know if their child is in pain. For example, with Keli, as soon as he started to communicate, he was able to tell his mother about certain severe health problems he had. So having Mia and Joe, and by having this connection with them that is so deep and so crucial to my life, I just knew that it wasn’t enough to provide the narration for the film. I had to do something more to help bridge the gap for some of these parents who can’t communicate as freely as I can with my own children. That really resonated with me. Is it important for you to try to make the world a better place? It sounds like such a cliché to say, “I want to help make the world a better place,” but you know, I do, I really do, and if I am in a position where people will pay attention because my face is familiar to them, then it’s a great opportunity. I’m 35 years’ old now, and I feel this is the time to do these things and actually try to make a difference. Which celebrities have agreed to appear in the book? Every single person I have asked said yes: Leo DiCaprio, Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp, Vanessa Paradis, Richard Branson, Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, the list just goes on and on. It’s heart-warming to discover just how willing people are to help, and it’s an amazing feeling to be able to instigate that warmth and generosity in people. Lancôme has decided to support your commitment to the Golden Hat Foundation. What does that mean to you? It’s amazing. At the beginning, part of me felt as though I didn’t really know what to do next, and I just felt very strongly that, if I were to reach out to Lancôme, then maybe they would support me and together we could make things happen. So I sat down with the team and said, “I’ve had this crazy idea, I think it’s great, but I don’t know where to go with this”; everyone’s faces just lit up and everyone was so excited to join me and do this together. To know that Lancôme was behind me was a big motivating factor, and it already made a huge difference. We’re at a point now where, not only has Lancôme contributed in an enormous way financially to the foundation, but they’re bringing out products in connection with the publication of the book. We will have a limitededition lipstick and blush and nail polish. Everything has the Golden Hat Foundation logo on it, and you just can’t miss it. It’s another very wonderful and visual way for Lancôme to show their support.

What would your message be to women who’d like to buy the collection? My message would be: it’s not just that it’s a lipstick that you will love, or a nail polish that you will love, or a blush that you will love, but when you purchase a product like this, or give it to someone you care about, you will also be giving to children who have a whole world to discover, and who need our help to do so. Just think: they’re completely trapped inside their own bodies, and they really don’t have to be. So in very small ways, we can make a really big difference.

TRUE BEAUTY You have been a Lancôme ambassadress for four years now. What is your relationship like today? Again, it’s a cliché, but I feel my relationship with Lancôme now is like family. You know, although you enter into these things with a feeling of good will and good faith, you really don’t know where they’re going to go, but it really does feel like we’re all working together as a team towards the same thing. For me, it’s a great collaborative, professional relationship. I always strive to find that in my life, whether it’s with family, or working on a film, and to experience that with Lancôme as well, in exactly that same way, is really surprising. It’s a big part of my life now, it’s just great. What is the best part about being a Lancôme ambassadress? Honestly, the best part is that friends, family and even women in the street will come up to me and ask, “Right, what’s the secret with this? Why don’t you have many lines around your eyes? Why does your lipstick always look so perfect…”? And the great thing is, that I can tell them, and mean it. That again has been something that has taken me by surprise; that people ask for my opinion because they want to know, they really, genuinely want to know. Also, as I have said, the fact that my relationship with Lancôme continues to grow and change is a very rewarding experience.

What are your feelings about L’Absolu Nu, the latest Lancôme lipstick? I am crazy about this lipstick, because it’s really subtle, not like a gloss, and it has a lovely creamy texture that is quite unique. I would say that it is very sexy in an almost accidental way, and the shades are just gorgeous – you’ve never seen colours like this before. Also, it actually looks, in person, close up, the way it looks in the photograph, and I think that is crucial to people now, because photography can be incredibly deceptive. Can you tell us about the incredible commercial you made with Mario Testino? I was so excited about shooting the commercial with Mario, because he’s not just a brilliant photographer, he is also so good at capturing the essence of a woman. I was fascinated to see how he would bring that to life, beyond a frozen image. I trust him so profoundly that I knew that what he would come up with would feel very real and sexy without being in any way gratuitous or obvious, and the result is very, very subtle and really chic. What is your everyday beauty routine? I always, without fail, take my makeup off, no matter how tired I am. Even if it’s just mascara, it always has to come off at the end of the day. I use Lancôme’s foaming face wash, Mousse Éclat, which I love because it really leaves your face feeling clean, without any residue. Then I use Lancôme’s Rénergie Lift Volumetry face cream and Rénergie Yeux Multiple Lift eye cream. And that’s really all I do.

LIFE LIKE THE MOVIES You have just filmed with Roman Polanski for his latest film “Le Dieu du Carnage.” Was this the first time you worked with him, and how does it feel to be directed by such a legendary director? Yes, it was the first time I’ve been directed by Roman, and I can’t even begin to describe how incredible he is. He is such a wonderful man, a complete genius as a director; he knows exactly what he wants. Visually he is scrupulous, so attention to detail is very important to him, and he is very, very thorough with his actors. I was terrified going in because none of us knew what to expect and we were all really nervous working with this legend. We rehearsed for two weeks, and after the first week of rehearsals, he sent us home and said, “Well, I think when we come back on Monday, it would be really good if you all knew your lines.” And we said, “But, Roman, that’s an entire script.” And he said, “Yeah, well, you’ll have other weekends.” So we had to go away and spend two days learning 100 pages, which we did, and we came back on the Monday and rehearsed the whole thing like a play. I had never experienced this before in my life. We were shooting the movie from beginning to end in absolute story order, which is incredible, because you’ve done one bit and you just move on to the next scene, and the cameramen follow us around the room depending on where we go next. It was a really eye-opening experience, and it’s made me realise that perhaps I don’t need to be so terrified of doing theatre, because this is what we were doing. What is your character in the film? The story involves two couples who come together one afternoon to try to resolve a dispute between their sons. My son hit their son with a stick and knocked two of his teeth out. They want the boys to make up, so they’re trying to be conciliatory and fair-minded and to make everything work. Then, however, the story just turns on its head and it becomes all about the problems in their marriages, and it’s really very real, and very funny at the same time. My character, Nancy, is an investment broker, a very full-time working mother, who doesn’t have as much time with her child as she probably should. She’s quite neurotic, but tries to hide it. She’s very sensitive, and tries to hide that side of herself as well. She’s trying to be the best version of everything she can be and kind of failing at everything. So that’s a challenge for me, because I don’t like failure!

The film was set in Paris, and you have lived in Paris for three months. How has it been? It has just been amazing. I loved it, and my children were there with me. This was the first time for me to take them out of their schooling, in order to travel away with me. Previously, I’ve always been able to find work in and around their school to fit in with their schedules, but this was just a unique opportunity for all of us to go somewhere new and have an adventure. Jo is 7 now, Mia is 10, so they’re at a stage of their education where there’s nothing really crucial going on in terms of exams. I’ve been home-schooling them in Paris, and they’ve been taking their French classes at the grocery store, and buying their own metro tickets. People are very respectful in Paris, and we haven’t seen any paparazzi. It has been amazing, really amazing. I can’t remember when my life was like that before, so I could have never left! What are you planning to do now that you’ve finished the Polanski movie? I’ve gone back to New York and the children are finishing school. Then I’ll take some time in the summer just to be at home with the kids. I’m reading some scripts at the moment, and I’ve read a couple of things that I really like… I’m not sure what will happen next, but everything feels very good and positive and exciting, and I feel in a very strong place right now.

We have mostly seen you in dramatic roles. Have you ever thought about doing comedy? Well, that’s partly the reason why I was so thrilled to be asked to do the Polanski, because it is a comedy, albeit a satire, and it’s really wonderful to play somebody to whom lots of very funny things happen. I’m really enjoying that side of it. It’s true, though, as I read scripts now, that I get a little heavy-hearted if I read something that is sad or emotionally draining, because I have done a lot of that in the past five years. I’ve loved every character that I’ve played, but more than wanting to play someone funny, I really want to play someone who’s happy, because I’m really happy right now! I would like to use some of that energy and put it into a character. To conclude, what can we wish you for the future? I think independence with my children, and just a feeling that anything is possible and everything can change and it will always be alright. Also, health for my children. That’s all I can hope for, really.

In this Flair exclusive we have an intimate tête-à-tête with this woman of flair…proving that big dreams may turn into a reality.

FLAIR: With no formal fashion training how did you break into the fashion industry? RACHEL ZOE: I’ve always known I was meant to work in fashion. I grew up styling – everyone from friends and family to neighbors and classmates. I relentlessly studied fashion magazines and took the train into NYC every chance I could – I’ve always been fashion obsessed. After graduating, I moved to New York City and started as an assistant at YM. After I was promoted to editor, I took the plunge and started on my own as a stylist. FLAIR:What was your best fashion moment of all time? RZ: One of my favorite fashion moments of all time was when I attended the Met Ball in 2008 with Marc Jacobs, I wore the most insane yellow velvet dress from his collection. It was such an incredible evening! FLAIR: Which celebrities do you love to dress? RZ: Honestly, my clients are all so different, with their own unique styles – I really love dressing all of them for different reasons. FLAIR: How would you define your personal style? RZ: Classic glamour with elements of vintage. FLAIR:Tell us about your experience with your TV show? RZ: My goal for the show was to provide fashion devotees, like myself, with a behind the scenes look at the real world of fashion. Plus, I think people had this perception of me as some sort of unapproachable ice queen, and I wanted them to see my true self – a silly fashion-obsessed girl. FLAIR: How was the transition from styling to designing? RZ: As a stylist, I was constantly tweaking pieces for all my clients and had the opportunity to collaborate with designers across multiple categories. My collection is something I have been subconsciously dreaming up for years. I am so excited it finally happened – the whole thing just felt like a very natural transition. FLAIR: Tell us about the DNA of your clothing line… RZ: It’s rooted in classic silhouettes from the 60s and 70s, it’s glamorous and vintage inspired, but created for the modern everyday woman. FLAIR: What is the essential Rachel Zoe piece? RZ: The tuxedo! FLAIR: What are the wardrobe essentials for Fall/ Winter 2012? RZ: A pair of leather pants. This season, opt for a flare cut and pair them with some sky high heels for seriously long looking legs. FLAIR: What can we expect from Rachel Zoe in the near future? RZ: All I can say is I hope there is a lot more to come – the possibilities are endless! That’s what makes my job so exciting.

SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW Andrew Martin in Dubai When it comes to discerning design, Andrew Martin is a household name. Since it’s founding in 1978, the company has come to be the leading authority on both the critique and execution of fine design. The Andrew Martin Interior Design Review has the last say in what’s hot and what’s not. And they should know: the company continues to create some of the most cutting-edge, in-demand home furnishings on the market. Flair sat down with Martin, one half of the original Andrew Martin team, to learn more about how he manages to do it all, from fine design to pinpointing the next big thing. By Kate Dannies The Andrew Martin store is in DIFC Dubai

Flair:You design the majority of the pieces for the Andrew Martin brand. How have you managed to continue doing this as the brand grows? Martin: It’s astonishing what a fashion-driven business interior design is, and always was. We can all date an 18th century chair to within 10 years just by its leg detail, handles or marquetry. Since I started Andrew Martin in 1978, that fashion has changed many times. You just have to keep looking at the world around you, from art exhibitions and movies to industrial design direction in things like planes and cars, to the catwalk shows. Flair:Three words to describe your design aesthetic… Martin: Layered, multi-cultural, masculine. Flair: What are some of your favourite pieces you’ve created? Martin: The Saturn chair: a classic shape, very comfortable, in a modern acrylic. Flair: Andrew Martin’s vintage pieces have attracted a lot of attention recently. What special considerations go into creating the vintage line? Martin: I like vintage things that show the patina of wellloved use. I particularly love old toys, but I like them worn and battered. Unlike a specialist collector I am not interested in perfect condition in a pristine box.

Flair: What are some of the most exciting new trends in furniture design now in your opinion? Martin: I think one of the most distinct trends of recent years is the lack of universal trends. There are so many styles available and people are more and more confident about following their own taste. Individuality has outpaced trends. Flair: The Andrew Martin Interior Design Review is a leading authority. How do you decide who’s in and who’s out? Martin: We look for designers who, beyond being accomplished, bring something new to the arena and have a distinctive handwriting of their own. We also try to represent a range of geographies, projects and styles. Flair: What role do you play in creating the Review? Martin: I am the editor, so final responsibility lies with me for the designers including which projects we feature, which images we use, and how they are laid out on the page. Flair: What can you tell us about Andrew Martin Dubai? What is unique about the city and its tastes? Martin: People who live and work in Dubai are incredibly lucky, especially in interior design. There is such a wealth of extraordinary projects. It makes me very proud that Andrew Martin is part of it.

Jazz up Your Space

Prints & Pattern Galore! Patterns and prints can truly make, or break a space. You can use them to fill a dull room with life, to embellish your outdoors, and to add a twist of uniqueness to your home. Nevertheless, there are a few rules to bear in mind. Read on to find out how to add the perfect amount without looking gaudy. By Farah Amin

You can transform any minimal, plain palette with small increments of patterns; consider mixing in patterned furniture and home accent like pillows, throws, wall art, wooden chairs with fabric frames, rugs, curtains, bed covers and headboards. Brighten up solid empty wall with distinctively patterned, or textured, wallpaper for a chosen segment of the room. Try to opt for the most visible side upon entering the room. Remember that patterns and textures work best with a neutral-based palette and muted hues, rather than a house with too many details and embellishments with respect to its overall design and chosen pieces of furniture. The Rule of Threes: To stay on the safe side, choose three patterns to play around with. This sets a theme and keeps you from getting overwhelmed with the vast array of choices. By applying the rule of threes, you also avoid falling into the trap of the über-patterned room. Note that too many visuals and colors can cause aesthetic disharmony. Another vital pointer is to decide on a color scheme with respect to the patterns and stick to it, in order to avoid confusion. Once you’re comfortable with the color scheme you can start adding some contrasting tones. Furthermore, it is important to consider the scale of the pattern itself. Be sure to stick to one size; piece of advice: opt for larger patterns in wider spaces, and more detailed ones in smaller rooms.

Dots & Stripes There is a wide range of stripes; from wide ones to pinstripes and with their different colors they are quite versatile to place against any plain fabrics. Think of striped pillows on a plain sofa, or a headboard padded with striped fabric. Dots–or polka dots–are another fun and quirky way to add some sass to a plain room. Dots work best as throws, cushions, or tabletop accessories.

Montblanc: Words Bejeweled When it comes to writing utensils, no one makes them better than Montblanc. The renowned designers bring you the newest additions to their classic, welladored collection, making them a true gem in the eyes of every collector. Artisan Edition: Macbeth–directed by Max Reinhart Montblanc has celebrated the great theatre director and co-founder of the Salzburg Festival since 2003. Each year a new writing instrument is created that artistically reflects the various productions at the Salzburg Festival and the life of Max Reinhardt. Each piece is a unique work of art, a masterpiece made from the finest materials and finished to the highest level of craftsmanship.

Albert Einstein Limited Edition

True to this tradition, Montblanc’s Great Characters Limited Edition brings to life the extraordinary genius of Albert Einstein (1879-1955). With an unparalleled ability to understand the most complex mysteries of the physical universe and an insatiable desire to break new boundaries, no man of science has achieved such widespread recognition for his contribution to the advancement of human knowledge. Now this writing masterpiece, available in an Albert Einstein Limited Edition of just 99 pieces and an Albert Einstein Limited Edition of 3000 pieces, celebrates Einstein’s remarkable legacy. The filigree engravings on the barrel and cone of the pen reflect his most famous formulas, and the nib is enriched with the engraving of the chemical element ‘Einsteinium’ or ‘Es’, a rare radioactive metal named after Einstein to honor his achievements. The pen’s clip is bejewelled with a sapphire bowl of approximately 1,3 ct, while the iconic star-shaped Montblanc emblem carved out of moonstone crowns this masterpiece with its luminous display of colors. A numerical reference to Einstein’s outstanding body of work, the limitation number of Albert Einstein Limited

For the creation of this year’s special edition the designers from the Montblanc Artisan Studios in Hamburg were inspired by William Shakespeare’s “Macbeth”, which Max Reinhardt produced on many occasions. “Double, double, toil and trouble; fire burn and cauldron bubble” - with these words the spell is cast by the three witches who are visited by the royal commander Macbeth to have his destiny foretold.

Edition 3000 refers to the speed of light measured at ~300.000.000 m/s. While platinum-plated lines defined in the dark blue lacquer of the pen’s cap represent the space-time curve, the platinum barrel is engraved with his most famous scientific formulas. This 750 gold nib delivers an unparalleled writing experience. Crowning the top of the cap, the iconic Montblanc emblem is covered with sapphire glass. This special Edition consists of 3000 Fountain Pens, 1500 Roller Balls and 1500 Ballpoint Pens. The Montblanc Great Characters Albert Einstein Limited Edition is available in Montblanc boutiques worldwide from January 2013.

This scene is engraved in three-dimensional relief on the 925 sterling silver cap.The barrel is made of red jasper and symbolizes the bloodshed and sorrow caused by Macbeth. The hand-crafted, rhodium-plated, 18 carat gold nib is engraved with the silhouette of the fortress of Hohensalzburg. This writing jewel is finished with artistic chasing on the top of the cap and the Montblanc star in shimmering mother of pearl.

Get ‘Em If You Can!

Ar tists Must-Own Pieces. Fine art is one of our many guilty pleasures. We pride ourselves on stretching our luxury budget to cover new shoes, clothes, fine dining and spa indulgences, as well as cutting edge masterworks, by finding the latest and greatest art pieces before everyone else. By Kate Dannies

Canvas Wars Jonathan Wateridge knows how to be at the center of the media world, right at the intersection of art and cinema. The Zambia-born British artist is a painter that depicts the movie world, bringing us behind the scenes of the set with his realistic works in oil. From sci-fi flicks to school plays, Wateridge’s works capture the realm of theatrical creativity, depicting scenes from the most mundane domestic setting to the high drama of an Arctic plane crash. We’re not sure how his works will look on our wall per se, but if the Saatchi Gallery likes him, so do we. And so will everyone else, so make a move.

Colorful Minimalism Known for his artworks in the areas of post-painterly abstraction and minimalism, Frank Stella–the ItalianAmerican printmaker and painter–was, and remains, an true innovator. Heavily relying on the strong use of color, he always manages to create a harmonious, minimalistic balance. Having previously supported “flattened” works and denied the notion of space and depth, in

the 1980s Stella discovered the spatial assaults of the Italian classical painters. In the 1990s–however–he became involved in numerous art happenings an public projects, as well as architecture and the design of a new Toronto theater, where he combined sculpture, painting, architecture and murals, giving birth to a unique, grand, piece of art.

Extreme Perspective

Big mansions call for big paintings, and Joel Rea has those in ample supply. The Australian oil painter revels in excess with his boldly-pigmented, massive canvases depicting fantastical scenes in a starkly realistic manner. Gigantic dogs with glossy, lifelike fur, men in the midst of a hustle, and gorgeous studies of waves are some favourite themes. On the rise since 2003, Rea has been the recipient of several awards in Australia, but there is still time to pick up an original before things get out of hand. This one’s going to be big. www.joelrea.com.au

Death and Beauty

Born in 1965, and the richest living artist to date, English art collector, artists and entrepreneur Damien Hirst is the most prominent in the Young British Artists group. With death as a central theme in his works, he gained recognition for a series of works in which dead animals were preserved in formaldehyde and put on display in vitrines. He broke the record at Sotheby’s for the one-artist auctions in 2008, where he sold out his complete show titled “Beautiful Inside my Head Forever,” raising $198 million. Other than his bizarre installations and abstract paintings, Hirst is very well known for his unique sculptures, especially his platinum cast of an 18th century skull, frosted with shimmering 8601 diamonds, titled “For the Love of God.” www.damienhirst.com

Architecture Buzz From New York to Egypt’s North Coast, and everywhere in between, unique architectural innovations are definitely leaving their mark around the globe. With a wide array of styles, designs and projects, the year 2013 will definitely be filled with creative landmarks. By Hend Seif el Din

Manhattan’s Next Big Thing

As winners of L & L Holding Company’s competition, Foster + Partner are about to break with Park Avenue’s tradition. The architects will replace the 65-year old tower on 425 the Avenue with a new, modern, and sustainable office building. According to Lord Foster, he is “delighted to have this very special opportunity to design a contemporary tower to stand alongside them. Our aim is to create an exceptional building, both of its time and timeless, as well as being respectful of this context – a tower that is for the City and for the people that will work in it, setting a new standard for office design and providing an enduring landmark that befits its world-famous location.” In addition to its functionality, each of the tower’s three levels hosts a beautifully designed terrace, boasting incredible views of Manhattan and Central Park. Other competitors chosen by L&L Holding Co. and Lehman Brothers Holding Inc. included Richard Meier, Jean Nouvel, Renzo Piano, and Zaha Hadid.

The Hogwarts School of Matchsticks

Iowa-based artist Patrick Acton uses tiny matchsticks to recreate architectural pieces of art. Standing tall and proud, his latest achievement, Harry Potter’s Hogwarts School of Wizardry, truly defines architectural genius. Acton previously recreated famous architectural sites from around the globe, such as the Church of Notre Dame, Paris, as well as the US Capitol Building. Next in his line of projects is a plan to recreate New York City’s World Trade Center, which the artist hopes to finish in 2013.

Innovative, Creative, & Unique Architectural Gems Well built and brilliantly engineered, each structure is an invention in its own right designed with as much intelligence and technology matching its jaw-dropping aesthetics. Weather it is the dramatically tilted Capital Gate Tower in Abu Dhabi Center, the 2nd tallest building in Bahrain, the BWTC is the first to incorporate turbine engines, The crooked house in Poland, The Reversible Destiny lofts of Japan, The Flame towers in Azerbaijan or the Fish House in Singapore, they all exude ultimate modernism and technology, leaving nothing to the imagination, and making it a challenge for future innovators. By Farah Amin

Bahrain World Trade Center

Dubbed Bahrain’s first intelligent building and second tallest building in the country, this 50 storey structure that stands 240 meter high and is a sustainable one at that being the first skyscraper in the world to incorporate wind turbines in its design. The green buildings are shaped like a sail; tied together by three giant turbines for the wind dynamics, the latter provides the tower with 15% of its power consumption. The identical BWTC towers are located in Manama Bahrain near the King Faisal Highway and it is close to landmarks such as Abraj Al Lulu. Built by world renowned architectural firm Atkins in 2008, the Eco-friendly building has been awarded the “best tall building award by The Council for Tall Building and Urban Habitat, the 2006 LEAF Award for Best Use of Technology within a Large Scheme, as well as The Arab Construction World for Sustainable Design Award and an Innovation award from The Building Exchange.

Capital Gate Tower, Abu Dhabi

The dramatically leaning Capital Gate Tower Abu Dhabi landmark is one of the most complex engineering projects in the world. The structure is innovatively constructed to lean 18 degrees westwards making it more than four times more titled than the world famous Tower of Pisa and commanding the title of ‘World Furthest Leaning Manmade Tower’ in The Guinness World of Records. It is designed by the international architecture firm–RMJM– and has a capacity of 20,000 square meters of premium office space. The thirty-five-storey building towers 160 meters in height and is the world’s first to have a ‘pre-cambered’ core, which consists of reinforced steel of 15,000 cubic meters with 10,000 tons of steel. The Capital gate is also home to the luxurious five-star hotel–Hyatt Capital Gate–from the 18th to the 33rd floor. The hotel is a part of the Abu Dhabi National Exhi-

bition Center (ADNE) the biggest conference and exhibition venue in the Middle East. This record-breaking structure is made of a strong exoskeleton, the same one used in outstanding buildings such as Hearst Tower in New York, the Beijing CCTV Tower and The Gherkin in London. The technology diagrid carries off the weight off the floor, eliminating the need for internal beams and pillars. Having the façade of glass is surprising in a country like the UAE, where the weather is very hot. Furthermore, it is of low emissivity to keep a cool temperature inside as well as terminate glare, which is used–for the first time–in the country’s history. On the 19th floor descends an all-around stainless steel shade to keep the sun away, eliminating 30% of the heat before it reaches the building. Located on the same floor, is an outdoor swimming pool with a panoramic view as well as a tea lounge that overhangs 80 meters above the ground.

The Crooked House in Poland

At first glance you would suspect something is wrong with this picture or that it has been photo shopped, while in fact, it is a very interesting-looking building that has been built to defy the norms of architecture and construction. Inspired by the fairytale illustrations of Jan Marcin Szancer and Per Dahlberg, Krzywy Domek is Polish for ‘the crooked house’ and is a shopping center found in Sopot, Poland. Being well prepared with all the facilities an office space would need, the house has been–and continues to be–an attraction for the largest Polish and international companies. The unique structure is designed by Szotynscy & Zaleski and has become Poland’s most photographed building. This building is home to a vast array of activities and professions due to its eccentricity; it’s home to offices, beauty salons, shops, health clinics, clubs, pubs, and hosts cultural events. The crooked house has its own “Wall of Fame,” which gave birth to a tradition: guests or visitors taking part in the house’s cultural events sign their names on the wall. The latter has led to the Krzwy Domek’s recognition at the 7 wonders of the Tri-city competition, which it won in 2009.

Reversible Destiny Lofts in Japan

Arakawa and Madeline Gins have taken innovative design to the next level. These New York based architects have created an avant-garde, nineapartment complex with a rainbow exterior, in the suburbs of Tokyo, implementing their belief that your living space should keep you young. The apartments are designed to raise the awareness of the physical body with their original designs of bizarre walls, lack of doors, power sockets hanging down from the ceiling, sunken kitchens, uneven floors and windows that are weirdly angled.

The walls are painted in 14 different colors to give a feeling of “duality,” or of being in two places at once. Each angle also presents a view of six different colors. The architects wanted to create a challenging environment for the residents, which “makes people use their bodies in unexpected ways to maintain equilibrium, and that will stimulate their immune system.”

Fish house by Guz Architects, Singapore

Though it may look like your typical tropical getaway in the Fareast, The Fish House definitely has more to it than what meets the eye. Designed by Guz Architects, the house boasts as much beauty as much as it does intelligent, eco-friendly design, while providing its residents with both comfort and luxury. While capturing the essence of Tropicana, these modern bungalows have a unique design to them. The idea behind the Fish House is tying manmade commodity to nature, striving to merge them together. The latter is achieved by developing open spaces to encourage natural ventilation, having an ocean view, as well as positioning the swimming pool intelligently, ensuring that it is provided with the same landscape. The roof of The Fish house has curves that resemble beach waves, and its photovoltaic solar panels prove enough energy for the whole house. A second part of the roof has been turned into a roof garden, forming an outdoor leisure spot. Going down to the basement, the media room enjoys a glorious view of the pool and the ocean, through a u-shaped window, which allows a surplus of natural light to brighten up the space.

Flame tower in Baku Azerbaijan

Baku’s history and recently obtained oil-wealth inspired this high-tech symbolic structure, the Flame Towers. Since Baku is known as the “region of eternal fires,” according to their religious heritage, and its coast was once full of beds catching on fire, the towers couldn’t be more relevant to

their chosen location. The Flame Towers have transformed the capital city’s skyline, thus making them an icon. At a construction area of 234,500 m2 of the Caspian Sea in Azerbaijan, the three towers are situated on a hill that overlooks the old city center.

FABULOUSLY EXHIBITING In the world of luxury exhibitions all of them seem to be the best of the best. The wording is always the same but which ones actually deliver on what they describe? Daniela Bonetto enters into the realm of exhibiting wonders and reports on those that caught her eye and truly seem to be the most luxurious, most interesting and most fabulous – Put your foot down! By Daniela Bonetto

Top Marques Monaco, Montecarlo It is time to wish this exhibition happy birthday. It has reached its 10th edition milestone on the supercar highway. Many industry firsts and world premieres hit the headlines each time the doors open to this unique and exclusive supercar show. Proud as can be to have grown up side by side with the supercar industry, TMM boasts Prince Albert II as the distinguished patron. This month TMM are thrilled to join in celebrations as 007 turns 50! As you can imagine, Top Marques is inextricably linked to the iconic James Bond with his fearless, espionage antics in fast cars, loaded with futuristic gadgets because this show is about possibilities that one does not find anywhere else. However, there’s another

reason - this suave and savvy spy was projected to celluloid fame thanks to the powerhouse producer duo ‘Cubby’ Broccoli and Harry Saltzman, the latter being the late father of Steven Saltzman, one of the owners of TMM. His connection fuels the fascination for Bond style exclusive cars and TMM likes to think that they carry on the torch in real life propelling supercars into the bosom of an increasingly sophisticated era of state-of-the-art technology to be driven at intoxicating speeds, reminiscent of our handsome hero’s action packed missions. However, for now their suggestion is “go see ‘Skyfall’ and then mark Top Marques Monaco 18-21st April 2013 in your diaries for an exhilarating date with high performance supercars, their creators and engineers”.

With Zaha Hadid securely in our handbag this winter, we’re ready for anything and everything.
