MS. YOLANDA BARNES

THESE BRONCOS UNDERSTOOD THE

It was simple:

At the beginning of a new semester, most professors ask you "Tell me a little about yourself?" well today I want you to tell me "Who I am NOT!" Please think of THREE things you are NOT and write a creative paragraph or poem using all THREE.

I even started them off: I am not LAZY

I am not TIMID I am not LOST My Poem: They said I couldn't be, wouldn't be, But I know who I am NOT I am not the LAZY they look to LEACH on or the TIMID they steal TIME FROM... Nor am I easily to be LEAD ASTRAY...I'm NOT LOST...I'm LIVING.

Please enjoy the poetry from our Broncos. YOLANDA "YOGII" BARNES

I AM NOT

I am not a victim of my circumstances. I am not uneducated or stupid. I am not alone.

WHO I AM NOT Being born of fire and ash,

I found the path to lead me to happiness. Being forged from dagger thrown eyes and lead made fists, I have found strength. They say that most "gifted kids" will always face burnout, But that is my motivation. Allowing new information to swarm my brain like a rapid river. With a support system crafted by the Gods of family and friends, I can face any challenge head on. I am not alone, I am many.

Hillary Stigen

I AM NOT

I am not helpless I am not underestimated I am not a bystander

WHO I AM NOT I am everything God created me to be I do not need you to speak for me, I am not helpless I am a winner, a conqueror and one of God's greatest creation I do not need you to speak my worth, I am not underestimated I am a fighter for those who need a extra voice for the cause I do not need you to tap me on the shoulders and say hey say something I am not a bystander. I am everything God created me to be and more.

Tamara Alford

I AM NOT

I am not Worthless.

I am not Miserable.

I am not alone.

WHO I AM NOT You have always been worth it,

do not allow others to determine it for you Misery loves company,

so be happy, and respectable...

You are not alone,

you always have a friend in me.

Brittany Strickland Atkins

I AM NOT

I AM NOT JUST ANOTHER GIRL FROM THE HOOD

I AM NOT FAKE

I AM NOT PATHETIC

WHO I AM NOT I am from coconuts, from coconut water and sour sap trees. I am from the ocean deep in the sea. from the sun, my skin burning as its stings from its rays. I am from the mango trees that sit in my front yard the tree I climb to pick them can be quite hard. I am from a place where the Twin Towers stood so tall, from the place where 9/11 impacted us all. I am from the 110th floor to what they now call ground zero. from a place where skyscrapers are visible, the Empire State Building now sits alone and illuminate the sky

I am from the concrete jungle, where everybody who's somebody's aspires to be I am from Broadway plays, the Opera, and Radio City Hall from the city that never sleeps, bright lights, street food, large birds and rats.

I am from the city where subways, yellow taxis, and blaring horns is all you hear. I am from a city of thousands, crowded, noisy, and congested streets as tourists come to see and walk these busy streets.

I am from a cultured and divided city, Jamaicans to Indians, Puerto Ricans, and Haitians. I am from the most diverse place on the earth, I am from a place where some people wish they were birth.

I am from a star, from the shining star that lights up the night sky I am from a jewel, the brightest one of them all, It never dims or gets dull; I shine bright like a DIAMOND!!!!

I am from a place where common sense isn't so common

Shammara Stevens

I AM NOT

I am not Mediocre

I am not One dimensional

I am not Scared

WHO I AM NOT Mediocrity is for those of low standards. I shoot as high as the heavens to be a phenomenal man. If I was mediocre, how would I be able to tell my son to be the best that he can. There are many sides to my story. I am able to do many things. This allows me to do great in any situation. Just as well as Alicia can sing. Scared of who? Scared of what? Scared of nothing I am. There is nothing to be afraid of as long as I live the life that I am. I AM NOT

Deandre Sanon

I AM NOT

I am not a FAILURE

I am not ASHAMED

I am not FINISHED

WHO I AM NOT They told me I would never become anyone successful, but I believe in myself and all that my creature has in store for me. I am not a FAILURE and I have never been , My journey is not yet FINISHED, There is still more for me to discover and concur. I am not ASHAMED of who I am, or of who I am destined to become. Who I am now will surely give me the experience I need to become stronger in who I am and confident in who I AM NOT.
