MOTORSPORT DRIVES Fuchs Australia has demonstrated successfully over the last 10 years, a strong motorsport leverage program flows on to company success. Across the Tasman, NZ now look to follow suit with the emerging V8 SuperTourers Series.

SUCCESS Fuchs Lubricants NZ has been confirmed as a series partner for the upcoming season of the BNT V8 SuperTourers, headline act of the Hankook Super Series, which runs seven rounds across the country in 2014.

The partnership incorporates the naming rights for round one at Highlands Motorsport Park next weekend, the Fuchs 250, and round 7, the Fuchs 500, at Pukekohe in November.

Fuchs Lubricants NZ is part of the wholly owned Australian subsidiary. The global brand is the world’s largest independent

manufacturer and supplier of lubricants, providing specialist lubricant solutions for the Automotive, Industrial, Agricultural, Food Grade and Forestry sectors, to name a few.

The competition is into its third season and is attracting a large number of big name drivers from New Zealand and Australia.

Thank you, I am excited to be on Fuchs Faces to share with everyone some of my experiences at Fuchs, as I now consider myself ‘part of the furniture’.

And how long have you been with Fuchs Lubricants?

I have been with Fuchs for 24 years and it seems like yesterday. I still remember going down to the factory and meeting the workers and what I wore on my first day – Scary!

What’s your favourite memory since you have been a part of the Fuchs team?

It would have to be our first company conference when we all went to Newcastle. It was a most enjoyable and the funniest trip ever. Also the opening of this new Fuchs building was very exciting.

You have been a star of the Fuchs team for some time, so you pretty much know everything, but what don’t you know about Fuchs?

Well as Customer Service Manager there is nothing I need to know about Fuchs I pretty much know everything as your question states !! ha ha!

You must have some funny stories about from your time in customer service?

One of the most memorable would have to be when one of the customer service team members must have got dressed in the dark and came into work with two different coloured socks and to top it off two left shoes. It was hilarious!

And you would have made plenty of Fuchs friends along the way?

I have made many friends since I have been at Fuchs and still keep in touch with many of them that have now moved on.

What’s your favourite German food?

My favourite German food would be schnitzel and gingerbread.

SE Forest & Hydraulic Centre was opened in June 1996 by Craig and Jenny Medhurst to fill a void in the forestry industry in their local area.

As a long-time partner with the FUCHS brand, Craig is proud of his business as well as the relationship he has with the products and people behind FUCHS. “I had been in business for myself from 1989 as a mobile mechanic, having previously been employed under a logging contractor – KW & BF Badenoch - back in 1985.

“It was here where I had my first dealings with FUCHS. One of my responsibilities was to purchase hydraulic and engine oils when it was called Steel Improvement, for Badenoch Logging.”

The choice of lubrication supplier was an easy one when Craig and Jenny setup their own operation.

“When I left and went out on my own, I became a FUCHS distributor and I believe I’m probably the longest serving distributor in Australia today.”

SEFHC was set up to be a one stop shop, primarily for the logging fraternity, to be able to get service, oil, hoses, batteries, filters and the like at the one place instead of driving all over town.

“

Over that time, the product range and services have grown as the business has developed.

“We have FUCHS as our only oil supplier and have always enjoyed a great relationship with FUCHS - our original FUCHS rep was Rob Hughes! For those who don’t know Rob, he is now Commercial Sales Manager - Australasia.

“Our business has come from two people to now employing seven people covering SE South Australia and Western Victoria and whilst a lot has changed, many things have not and Fuchs is one of them.”

FOXTALES INBRIEF FUCHS LUBRICANTS ANNOUNCES PLANS TO INCREASE INVESTMENT IN AUSTRALIA Leading German lubricant manufacturer FUCHS has restated its commitment to investing in the Australian economy after announcing the construction of a new manufacturing plant in Beresfield, NSW, to increase its Australian manufacturing capacity.

Part of FUCHS’ global investment strategy for the future, the new facility in Newcastle will cater for continuous growth in the region. With a move from the existing Newcastle FUCHS site in Wickham, the new plant will be constructed on a greenfield 25,000 square meter piece of land in Beresfield.

“This project will be a significant investment into the Newcastle region, and is part of an ongoing strategy to increase our investment into our operations in Australia,” said Wayne Hoiles, Managing Director of Fuchs Lubricants (Australasia).

The development process has only just begun with the purchasing of the land, and construction is expected to start mid-2015 and be fully operational in mid-2016. The Beresford site was chosen for its proximity to all major connecting highways north, south east and west and was close enough to the existing Wickham site that all existing employees would be able to continue to work at the new plant.

“While such a significant portion of Australia’s manufacturing is moving offshore, we have focussed on growing our business in Australia and New Zealand, particularly in high demand areas.”

“The existing site in Wickham was too small to expand, so we made the decision to move to the new Beresfield site which will allow us maintain our experienced workforce and increase our production capacity and operational efficiencies to better service our key customer base in New South Wales and Queensland.”

FUCHS manufacture a diverse range of engine, gear and hydraulic oils, engine coolants, grease and cleaning products to meet the unique demands of the Australian mining industry, and customers in the Hunter Valley region will benefit significantly from this new facility.

“The Australian mining industry is of significant importance to the Fuchs Group, and the construction of this new manufacturing plant will allow us to improve the responsiveness and quality of our service for our Australian based customers,” said Dr Georg Lingg, Fuchs Petrolub AG Executive Board Member, responsible for the Asia Pacific and Africa region.

“This commitment is part of our global investment program to invest in the future, particularly in the growing South East Asian region.”

V8 SUPERCAR UPDATE COOL CALM AND COLLECTING POINTS FOR COULTHARD BRIGHT FINE AFTER FRIGHTENING ROLL Jason Bright’s Clipsal 500 race 3 was short but spectacular on Sunday when his Team BOC VF Commodore was pitched into a high-speed roll on lap 14.

Starting from 8th on the grid, Bright’s pace was strong in the early stages as he quickly picked off two places.

Things changed on lap 10, however, after an accident involving James Moffat and Will Davison brought out the safety car. What followed was chaos.

With the new restart procedure, drivers must maintain between 50 and 60 km/h until the leader hits the gas in the ‘acceleration zone’.

With varying reaction speeds and wheelspinning cars the result was three abreast into the Senna chicane.

Tander touched Bright and tipped the Team BOC driver into a frightening roll. After a brief trip to the medical centre, Bright was given the all clear.

JASON BRIGHT: “I’m OK. It was the first rollover of my career. It was a lot more gentle then what I expected but it landed pretty hard though on the roof. The worst part was probably being upside down trying to get out with a very different view of the world.

The restart procedure definitely needs looking at. The low speed makes it easy to wheelspin and the leader isn’t controlling the race. If they want action, they’ve got it but if they want safety, that’s another story. Even if they increased the speed to 80 kays, that would make a difference.

This place is really cruel to me. I haven’t had a podium since 2001 or something. I think I’ve had a pretty tough run here ever since.”

TEAM OWNER BRAD JONES: “The first two (Shane Van Gisbergen, Rick Kelly) went too early. That spread the guys out because some of them went with the leaders and others held back. That compounded the problem coming into turn 1. For me, it was just one of those racing accidents.”

LOCKWOOD RACING’S FABIAN COULTHARD: leaves the streets of Adelaide second in the championship after another haul of points in the third race of the Clipsal 500 on Sunday.

Fourth place was the reward for a cool, calm, performance amidst scenes of chaos.

Following two 5th place finishes in the 125 kilometre races on Saturday, Coulthard was confident leading into qualifying for the traditional 250-kilometre race.

Unfortunately, the Lockwood Racing VF Commodore was again mysteriously lacking in grip for qualifying, 16th an uncharacteristic grid position.

While the car struggled in qualifying - the race was a different story, with Coulthard back on the pace.

While chaos surrounded him, Coulthard ran a trouble free race, securing 4th and valuable points for the championship.

HRT’s James Courtney won the race from Red Bull’s Craig Lowndes with Tekno’s Shane Van Gisbergen third.

Coulthard finishes the round second on points with 230, behind Lowndes on 282.

FABIAN COULTHARD: “Leaving Adelaide second on points is great.

Last year we were 23rd and we finished 6th in the championship so it’s a great start. We just need to keep the momentum going.

Qualifying is definitely something we can improve. In every session other than qualifying we’ve been in the top 5. In all 3 qualifying sessions we’ve been out of the top 10. We need to have a look at that and try to rectify the problem. I think if we can get a better qualifying car we can run at the front and get a better result.”

EREBUS CLIMBS STANDINGS AFTER BREAKTHROUGH WEEKEND AT WINTON Erebus Motorsport pilots Will Davison and Lee Holdsworth helped the team to a slice of history today with the first ever dual top10 finish in a carnage-filled Race 4 at the Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park.

After both drivers experienced elements of bad luck in both qualifying and Race 3, the pair turned things around by storming home from back in the field with Davison recording a sixth-placed finish and Holdsworth 10th.

The pair successfully navigated a multi-car incident to push into the top-10 and then held-off challenges over the final two laps to record an historic dual top-10 finish.

The result proved a landmark occasion and another significant step in the right direction for the rising Erebus Motorsport team in its second season in the V8 Supercars series.

Erebus Motorsport Team owner Betty Klimenko said the result was further proof that the team belongs as a genuine contender in the V8 Supercars series.

Erebus CEO Ryan Maddison said the result was just-reward for the belief of the team during a development period of the past 12 months.

“To have two cars in the top-10 is reward for effort but probably the biggest thing is reward for the belief for these guys,’’ said Maddison “I’ve got goosebumps just talking about it to be honest. I’m stuck for words as to how these guys should feel knowing that we just put two cars out there where we were trying different things at this stage of the weekend.

“It’s obviously a game of attrition with the cars falling away around us. But for us to be able to run solid, compete for every position and go forward in the field is fantastic.

“It’s a good result for us, another positive step on behalf of the brand and there’s no doubt there’s more positive things to come.

The team deserve it, the crowd loved it’’

“It was an amazing result, I wasn’t even expecting it,’’ said Klimenko.

Davison’s sixth placing marked his best result for the Erebus team to accompany top-10 results at both Clipsal and earlier in the weekend at Albert Park.

“The boys excelled, my heart went in my mouth and I got to the edge of my seat. The next thing I know, both of them were in the top-10 and I had goosebumps.

Davison said it was exciting to see the team rewarded for their efforts given how much progress Erebus has made over the past 12 months.

“I’m so proud of the boys, they really deserve it.

“The thing that excites me about the team is to see how much these little steps and little goals mean. It really excites me to be a part of that so early in the year,’’ said Davison.

“We’ve gone individually higher before but for me, to have them both there in the top10 - it says we’re here, we have the pace and this is where we belong.’’

“It’s so cool to see the satisfaction that everyone’s got from this result and we’ve just got to keep raising the bar but it’s a good stepping stone.

FUCHS SIGNS NEW DEAL WITH WILLOWBANK RACEWAY Willowbank Raceway and FUCHS Lubricants are excited to announce the leading lubricants company will continue as the naming rights sponsor of Australia’s largest drag racing event – the FUCHS Winternationals.

DRAGSTER OWNS PERTH MOTORPLEX It came down to defending Australian Top Fuel champion Darren Morgan on his season debut versus 2014 points leader Phil Lamattina and it was LTFR who came out on top at the 43rd Westernationals to take Round 3 of the ANDRA Drag Racing Series.

It was candles all the way in the Top Fuel A Final with side by side fours as Lamattina recorded a winning ET of 4.613 at 327.27 mph (526.68 kmh) from Morgan’s 4.860 at 301.00 mph (484.40 kmh) to win for the fourth time in a row at Perth Motorplex.

LTFR owned the Kwinana venue all night recording 4.673 to top qualifying before doing it again in eliminations with 4.670 despite popping a blower belt toward the end of the run to defeat Martin Stamatis (5.582).

Lamattina said he was happy with the how the car was running and felt relaxed about the set up based on past experiences at this track.

“The car was coming around, the track was coming around and in the final we had Darren (Morgan) and we thought if we ran another low .60 we’d be all good and what did we do? We ran a 4.61 at 327 mph,” he said.
