ORBISON IN DREAMS With a 31-piece orchestra and three backup singers, the impossible is now sublime: through the amazing technology of BASE Hologram, Roy Orbison performs on stage again — despite having passed in 1988. Sound too weird to be true? “The hologram was amazing, so convincing it seemed that Roy Orbison himself was in the room. The greysuited singer moved and tapped his feet in time with the music. He ‘accidentally’ nudged the holographic microphone stand. The fringes on the sleeves of his jacket rippled in the air as he thanked the audience and the musicians, as light seemed to reflect off his Gibson guitar. … Endorsed by the late star’s family, this first-of-its-kind show is certainly a fitting tribute to Orbison’s unique music” (Nottingham Post).

CUMPARSITA From Luis Bravo, the Tonynominated creator of ‘Forever Tango’—“an Argentinian-tasting menu of music, moves, mystery and mucho sensuality” (New York Daily News)— comes this new production. The Argentinean musicians, true masters of the bandoneon, join some of the finest Tango dancers in the world to tell the story of the art of Tango. Born in Buenos Aires in the late 1800’s, it was popularized in the brothels as a dance of loneliness, passion and lust. Now an art form known around the world, few stage it with the theatrical flair of Bravo.

VICKI LAWRENCE AND MAMA: A TWO-WOMAN SHOW Emmy Award-winning comedienne Vicki Lawrence is one of the most beloved television personalities of her generation. Plucked out of total obscurity as a high school senior, Vicki went on to become part of the now-legendary cast of “The Carol Burnett Show.” In the seventh season Lawrence created her most endearing character to date, Thelma Harper, or “Mama” as she is better known to her fans. After the Burnett Show, Vicki went on to star in “Mama’s Family,” which consistently topped the ratings for its entire six-year run of original shows.

Founded in 1976, Windham Hill Records was an upstart record label located in the SF Bay Area. Emanating from folk roots, the acoustic guitar (with artists like Alex DeGrassi and Michael Hedges), and the piano (George Winston), it went on to dazzling success, selling millions of records. WHR founder Will Ackerman, himself a Grammy Award-winning guitarist, joins three musicians he has produced over the years: Todd Mosby, an acclaimed guitarist and sole performer of the Imrat Guitar; Trevor Gordon Hall, a kalimbatar/guitarist and acoustic guitar phenom; and acoustic guitar maestro Todd Boston. AUSTRALIAN CHAMBER ORCHESTRA RICHARD TOGNETTI, ARTISTIC DIRECTOR The reviews say it all: “If there’s a better chamber orchestra in the world today, I haven’t heard it” (The Guardian); “The energy and vibe of a rock band with the ability of a crack classical chamber group” (Washington Post); “They don’t play New York nearly often enough. But, on the rare occasion that they do come in from Down Under, they leave an indelible mark on the city’s music scene” (TimeOut New York); “Early music doesn’t get much hipper than this” (Los Angeles Times). Performing as a flexible and versatile ‘ensemble of soloists’ on modern and period instruments, their repertoire spans six centuries and their performances are marked with a vitality and virtuosity unmatched by other ensembles: In a nod to past traditions, only the cellists are seated, and the resulting sense of energy and individuality is one of the most commented-upon elements of an ACO concert experience.
