2 013 L AUNCH GUIDE: BM W - MINI

Mini Countryman BMW 4 Series On sale: January On sale: autumn Think of the forthcoming 4 Series as the new 3 Series Coupé. It’s based on the 3 Series saloon, but BMW wants to put more distance between the saloon and coupé models, so the 4 Series will come with a longer wheelbase than the outgoing 3 Series Coupé. Shorter front and rear overhangs give a much sportier appearance. The front of the 4 Series is also different from the 3 Series saloon’s courtesy of larger grilles, bigger air intakes and a different bumper. BMW is remaining tight-lipped about engines and performance figures, but reckon on the same engines and transmissions as in the 3 Series saloon. The 4 Series will also spawn a convertible version and M car in due course.

BMW M6 Gran Coupé On sale: spring

The M6 Gran Coupé could well be the most rounded performance car in BMW’s line-up when it goes in sale in the first half of the year. It will mix the looks and style of the Gran Coupé with the pace provided by the M5’s 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine. This engine has 560bhp at its disposal, delivered to the rear wheels by a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The M6 Gran Coupé will serve up 0-62mph in 4.2 seconds, which is a fraction quicker than the M5 saloon’s 4.3 seconds. However, the Gran Coupé’s top speed will be limited to the same 155mph as the M5. If that’s not enough, BMW will offer a performance pack to raise this to 189mph. At more sensible speeds, the M6 Gran Coupé will offer 28.5mpg average economy and 232g/km CO2 emissions. It will cost around £97,000 and comes with a carbon-fibre reinforced roof panel, 20-inch alloy wheels and Dynamic Damper Control as standard.

A mid-life refresh for the Mini Countryman concentrates mostly on updating the cabin. There’s a new centre console with improved storage space, which is helped by moving the electric window switches to the door panels. This also means there are new door armrests, while speedo and air vents now have gloss black surrounds unless you opt for the Chrome Line pack. In the back, a three-seat bench becomes standard, though customers can choose a two-seat bench as a no-cost option. The exterior remains the same other than for some new paint colour choices. Engines also stay as they were, with economy and emissions unchanged.

The Paceman expands the Mini line-up in another direction as it takes the looks of the Countryman and blends them with a three-door hatch style. Mini refers to it as a sports activity coupé, which means it’s a rival for the likes of the Audi A3 and even the Range Rover Evoque. There are the expected petrol and diesel engines from the Countryman line-up, with the 112bhp Cooper D and 143bhp Cooper SD versions of most interest to fleet users. They offer 64.1mpg and 61.3mpg respectively, along with 115g/km and 122g/km CO2 emissions in front-wheel drive, manual gearbox formats. There’s the usual plethora of Mini options and extras for the Paceman, as well as the 218bhp John Cooper Works model with 18-inch alloy wheels, six-speed automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive as standard.

BMW 3 Series GT On sale: summer

The 3 Series GT follows in the wheel treads of the 5 Series GT by offering a five-door fastback version of an existing saloon model. For the 3 GT, BMW has used a longer wheelbase version of the 3’s platform, which is more usually sold in China. A higher roofline distinguishes the 3 GT from its saloon sister and it also has frameless doors front and rear. There are no exact figures, but the GT’s boot will be almost as large as a 3 Series Touring’s.

3 Series GT will take styling cues from the 5 Series GT (pictured)

BMW Z4

fleetnews.co.uk

On sale: summer A new BMW Z4 promises to move further back towards a focus on driving dynamics compared to the current model. BMW is not saying much about this car but it’s expected to make much more of the fourcylinder petrol twin-turbo petrol engines rather than the six-cylinder motors. This should offer fleet users better economy, lower emissions and strong performance. The new Z4 also promises to be lighter thanks to more use of aluminium, while its folding roof will be a more compact, less heavy design. We should also see a dual-clutch gearbox in the Z4 for the first time.

CARMAKER’S COMMENT Steve Chater, corporate operations manager, BMW Group UK

Mini Paceman On sale: March

Mini five-door

On sale: winter

Mini is expected to launch an all-new third-generation hatch in late 2013 that will include a five-door version for the first time. This new Mini will be longer than the current car to create more cabin space. A new range of engines is also reckoned to be on the way, borrowing turbocharged threecylinder motors from BMW to achieve sub-100g/km emissions for several models.

BMW X5 On sale: winter

Mini Clubvan

On sale: January Essentially a Mini Clubman with the windows replaced by steel and the interior stripped of the rear trim, the Clubvan is an ideal vehicle for a small business or promotions. It’s every bit as good to drive as any other Mini, yet can carry up to 860 litres. As with the Clubman, the vehicle retains the single rear door, albeit fitted on the right-hand side of the vehicle to make it less useful for loading when parked on the street. Power comes from a 1.6-litre petrol engine offering 98bhp in the One model or 122bhp for the Cooper. A Cooper D version with a 112bhp 1.6-litre turbodiesel delivers 72.4mpg and 103g/km.

However, BMW hints the X5 will stick with a five-seat layout rather than seven seats. After its launch, the X5 will also be joined by a new version of the X6 All X5 models will be produced at BMW’s factory in Spartanburg, USA.

BMW will offer the X5 with a fourcylinder turbodiesel engine for the first time when the new model goes on sale late in 2013. This will help put the X5 on to more company car lists and will give BMW a direct rival to the Mercedes-Benz ML250 CDI. The new X5 will use the platform from the current X3, but it will be stretched for a longer wheelbase and wider track. The X5 is being replaced late 2013

Looking back at 2012, we launched several new models of particular relevance to the corporate market. The new BMW 1 Series Sport Hatch three-door, including new 114i and 116d EfficientDynamics engines, came to market in late 2012. With the need to run an efficient fleet more important than ever, the 116d ED benefits from 74.3mpg (combined), 99g/km CO2 and just 13% BIK. Ever the fleet favourite, the new BMW 3 Series Touring launched in September bringing class-leading load capacity, 60.1mpg (combined) and 123g/km CO2, even in automatic transmission. However, developing new models is only part of the BMW Group offering; we also provide a range of important support services. In 2012, we introduced our aftersales Corporate Charter, consisting of 10 key customer promises, to offer a consistently high level of service to leasing companies and strengthen the relationship between our corporate customers and the BMW dealer network.

“It certainly promises to be a busy, yet exciting, year for the BMW Group” Looking ahead, 2013 is already shaping up to be an exciting year for BMW with many launches planned. Following the introduction of xDrive technology on the BMW 320i Saloon, we’ll also be introducing all-wheel drive capability on other engines and bodystyles. MINI will also launch a number of firsts in the shape of the MINI Clubvan and the MINI Paceman with both models taking our fleet offering into new territory and giving our customers even greater choice. 2013 will also see us moving closer to future technology with the launch of the first BMW i model, the BMW i3. Driven purely by electric power and purpose-built to meet the demands of emission-free mobility, it embodies a new and intelligent form of urban transport. It certainly promises to be a busy, yet exciting year, for the BMW Group. For more information visit www.bmwcorporate.co.uk or www.MINIcorporate.co.uk

2 013 L AUNCH GUIDE: CI T R OËN

Citroën DS3 Cabrio On sale: spring The Citroën DS3 Cabrio extends the popular hatch’s line-up with a fabric roof that folds back and down above the boot area in 16 seconds. It’s similar in design to the Pluriel, but the DS3 should be a much more popular choice thanks to a minimal weight gain of 25kg compared to the DS3 hatch. Citroën claims the DS3 Cabrio is the only five-seater in its class, though three in the back will be very snug. It also boasts a larger boot than the Mini Convertible, while the DS3’s roof can be opened and closed at speeds all the way up to the motorway limit. This means the Citroën’s driver does not need to slow or stop if the rains starts or the sun pokes out. The DS3 Cabrio continues Citroën’s wide range of personalisation options with a choice of three colours for the fabric roof and contrasting stitching. There’s also the usual range of body and interior options for the Cabrio as for the DS3 hatch. Due to the small weight gain and the DS3 Cabrio retaining the same aerodynamics of the hatch, Citroën says the Cabrio maintains the economy and emissions of the hatch. However, it is yet to confirm exact figures for the Cabrio, which uses the same engine line-up as the hatch model.

Citroën C3 Picasso On sale: January

The revised Citroën C3 Picasso compact MPV is on sale in January and comes with light exterior and interior revisions. A new front bumper is added and the Citroën double chevrons are now of the same design used on all its latest cars. For fleet users, the main interest is the 1.6-litre HDi turbodiesel engine has been uprated to 114bhp from its previous 109bhp output. The extra power comes with no effect on economy or emissions, which remain the same at 58.8mpg and 125g/km. This engine is only offered in Exclusive trim with a six-speed manual gearbox from £17,475. The 89bhp version of the 1.6 diesel carries on unchanged. Inside, the C3 Picasso has new fabric upholstery for VTR+ models or you can opt for full black leather trim. An option for all models is Citroën’s eMyWay satellite navigation system that can now be combined with a reversing camera and rear parking sensors.

Citroën C3 VTi PureTech On sale: January

Citroën now offers its new PureTech three-cylinder petrol engine in the C3 and DS3 in 1.2-litre form with 82bhp. This engine is shared with the Peugeot 208 and replaces the previous 1.4-litre petrol motor. In the C3, the 1.2 VTi engine offers 62.8mpg and 107g/km CO2 emissions, while the DS3 version manages 61.4mpg and 104g/km. A smaller capacity Pure Tech 1.0-litre version will also be offered in the C3 and DS3 ranges with 68bhp. For the C3, the VTi 68 engine replaces the 1.1-litre four-cylinder unit and offers improved economy of 65.7mpg and emissions of 99g/km, which is an improvement of 38g/km over the 1.1 engine. Running costs with these new engines should be lower they have fewer moving parts than their predecessors. The PureTech engines have timing belts designed to last the life of the car, further reducing maintenance costs. The Citroën C3 VTi82 costs from £13,640 and the DS3 version starts at £12,850.

Citroën C4 Picasso On sale: autumn

A completely new Citroën C4 Picasso is on the way towards the end of 2013. There will be five- and seven-seat versions, though Citroën has yet to confirm if the seven-seater will be called Grand Picasso. What Citroën has confirmed is there will be no Hybrid4 version in the foreseeable future. The company says it doesn’t believe there is a big enough market for such a model and incorporating the electric motor and battery might compromise space and versatility. Citroën does say, however, the new C4 Picasso will offer greater interior flexibility and improved interior quality. Engines will be improved versions of current units, so expect a low emissions eHDI 1.6-litre turbodiesel model to appeal to company drivers. We can also expect to see more widespread use of the EGS6 electronic gearbox.

Current C4 Picasso replacement due this autumn

CARMAKER’S COMMENT Martin Hamill, director – fleet and used vehicles

Citroën has attracted numerous new fleet and business customers with its dynamic, expanding range and this year we will have even more to offer. Both our fleet car and commercial vehicle sales and market share increased again last year, which reflects the strength of our product line-up and the quality of the advice and back-up we provide through our fleet sales team and dealer network. This high level of service for both car and van fleets means we have engaged with more of the country’s largest fleets, while expanding our success with SMEs. A key part of that success has been the premium DS Line, with DS3 and DS4 offering a new and extremely attractive proposition to both fleets and user-choosers. And we built on that success with the addition of the DS5, bringing a stunning new design and groundbreaking technology to the upper-medium sector. DS5 continues our ongoing success in enhancing the desirability of our products and as the flagship of the DS Line, it also introduces the Hybrid4 powertrain which offers 200bhp and emissions from just 91g/km.

“We have made significant strides forward in network service delivery levels” For 2013, we will be introducing the fourth model in our DS Line. The New DS3 Cabrio will continue to expand the appeal of the popular DS3 hatchback when it launches in the UK shortly. With a five-seat cabin and a class-leading 245 litres of boot space, it will be a desirable new entrant in the compact convertible class that will bring even more new customers to Citroën. Continuing our efforts to help fleets cut their costs and CO2 emissions will be the Berlingo Electrique, which will complement our current full electric range that includes the C-Zero supermini. We have made significant strides forward in our network service delivery levels, spearheaded by our national Business Centre programme. We remain totally committed to further enhancing our service during the fleet life of each vehicle, so a number of new and improved initiatives will follow this year. These changes enhance the complete fleet experience available from Citroën: a wide and exciting model range that has been designed with the fleet user in mind, excellent wholelife costs, low emissions with associated low tax liabilities and network service levels appropriate to fleet operator requirements.

2 013 L AUNCH GUIDE: FORD

Ford Kuga On sale: January

Ford is launching the all-new second-generation Kuga with prices from £20,895 to make it £1,000 cheaper than the outgoing range. The new Kuga is also the car to show off Ford’s new 1.6-litre Ecoboost engine with 148bhp or 177bhp. However, it will be the 138bhp and 161bhp 2.0-litre TDCi turbodiesels that will most interest company car drivers. If you choose the 138bhp diesel model with six-speed manual gearbox you’ll enjoy 139g/km CO2 emissions and 53.3mpg average economy. The same engine and gearbox combo with all-wheel drive delivers 47.9mpg and 154g/km. A front-drive, 138bhp diesel Kuga in Titanium trim will cost £23,545. All Kugas come with stop-start as standard, as well as a gear shift indicator and Ford’s Eco Mode that advises on the best way to improve fuel economy.

Ford Transit On sale: January

Ford’s new Transit will quickly become as ubiquitous as every previous generation and the new Custom Econetic one-tonne model will spearhead this charge as part of a three van range including the full-size Transit and new Transit Connect. It offers 46.3mpg combined economy and CO2 of 162g/km. Helping this version of the Transit achieve such impressive economy and emissions figures are standard auto stop-start and acceleration control. This latter limits acceleration when the van is part or fully laden to maximise economy. Power for the Custom Econetic one-tonne model comes from a 99bhp version of the 2.2-litre engine used across the Transit range.

Ford Fiesta On sale: January

Ford Mondeo On sale: 2014 We should have been looking forward to the new Ford Mondeo going on sale in 2013. However, due to a major restructuring of Ford in Europe, the new Mondeo has been pushed back to 2014. The next Mondeo will be offered with Ford’s new 1.0-litre, threecylinder Ecoboost engine in 123bhp guise. The 1.0-litre Ecoboost engine is also predicted to offer CO2 emissions of 125g/km. Ford’s latest 1.5-litre turbodiesel engine will also be used in the new Mondeo, providing sub-100g/km CO2 emissions. A 2.0-litre turbo petrol with 240bhp will be the most powerful model, while a 2.0-litre petrolelectric hybrid is also set to join the Mondeo range late in 2014. Underneath the bodywork, the next Mondeo uses a significantly reworked version of the current car’s platform. The new car shares the existing model’s 2,850mm wheelbase, though Ford promises even more cabin space.

fleetnews.co.uk

The revised Ford Fiesta is distinguished from the car it replaces by a new grille, bonnet with power dome and reshaped headlights that feature LED daytime running lights. On the inside, the door panels have been redesigned to move the electric window switches and door handles to more ergonomic positions. There are also new seat fabrics and the option of part or full leather upholstery. More fundamental changes come with the addition of Ford’s new 1.0-litre Ecoboost petrol engines and the latest 1.5-litre TDCi diesel. The three-cylinder petrol engine comes in 80bhp and 100bhp forms, offering 65.7mpg and 99g/km CO2 emissions whichever you choose. The 1.5-litre turbodiesel provides 98g/km CO2 emissions and 76.3mpg combined economy. It has 75bhp and 136lb/ft of torque and uses a five-speed manual gearbox.

Ford Fiesta ST On sale: summer

The new Fiesta ST marks a return to the full-blown hot hatch sector for Ford’s supermini. It will come with a 177bhp version of the company’s new 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine and a six-speed manual gearbox that will deliver 0-62mph in 6.9 seconds and a top speed of 136mph. Ford says the ST will emit 139g/km of CO2. Only available in three-door form, the ST sits on lower, firmer suspension and 17-inch alloy wheels as standard. It uses Ford’s Torque Vectoring Control to divide power between the front wheels to give the best possible grip in corners. There’s also an ESP system with three modes: on, off or wide slip that turns off the traction control but retains the stability control. Ford has yet to confirm a price for the Fiesta ST, but the car goes on sale in the early summer. It comes with new front and rear spoilers, side skirts and Recaro front seats. Ford’s MyKey system will be an option for the ST to restrict its performance for younger drivers.

CARMAKER’S COMMENT

Phil Hollins, director, fleet operations , Ford of Britain

In a challenging year, Ford’s continued leadership of the UK car and commercial vehicle markets in 2012 was underpinned by the company’s unabated investment in new product. Ford introduced 10 new and refreshed vehicles – including the all-new innovative B-MAX and Ranger – crowned International Pick-Up of the Year. They were among the top-selling Ford car and van range which delivered a 36th year as number one car brand and top commercial vehicle brand for the 47th year. New products provided real-world savings for fleets with the Fiesta/Fiesta Van ECOnetic models taking CO2 levels down to 87g/km and the Focus ECOnetic starting at 88g/km and returning an impressive 83mpg. This delivered BIK and fuel economy savings for the number one and two best-selling fleet cars.

“2013 will be every bit as exciting as the previous 12 months”

Ford Focus BEV On sale: summer

Ford will launch its first full battery-powered car in the UK in 2013 with the arrival of the Focus BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle). It’s based on the five-door hatch version of the standard Focus and will be capable of being fully recharged in three-and-a-half hours. Lithium-ion batteries are used and Ford says the Focus BEV can travel up to 76 miles between charges. It has a top speed of 85mph. The battery pack sits where the fuel tank would in a petrol-powered model, though some boot space is sacrificed to fit it in. Ford has yet to confirm pricing for the Focus BEV, which will qualify for the Government’s Plug-in Car Grant to knock £5,000 off the price. Without the grant, expect the Focus to cost around £30,000.

The technological breakthrough of the year was the new 1.0-litre, three-cylinder EcoBoost engine. Recognised as International Engine of the Year, it’s a game changer that challenges diesel fuel dominance. The International Van of the Year, the all-new Transit Custom, is also the first one-tonne van to earn a five-star EuroNCAP rating. Ford is also the first car manufacturer to achieve six EuroNCAP Advanced rewards for outstanding technological innovation after it received awards for MyKey on new Fiesta and SYNC with Emergency Assistance on all-new B-MAX, new Fiesta, C-MAX, Focus and all-new Kuga. For 2013 we will continue to innovate and work with fleets to drive down operating costs. Further launches will include the all-new Kuga and an electric version of the Focus and we will expand the Transit family by adding two new commercial vehicles (Transit two-tonne and the all-new Transit Connect). Further widening of Ford’s commercial vehicle offering will result from the new Tourneo range of ‘smart people movers’. 2013 will be every bit as exciting as the previous 12 months. To discover how our cars and service can more than meet the demands of your fleet, please call the Ford Business Centre on 01932 335055, email info@fordfleet.co.uk or visit ford.co.uk/fordfleet for more information.

2 013 L AUNCH GUIDE: P EUGEOT

Peugeot 2008 On sale: autumn

Peugeot is set to take on the Nissan Juke and Vauxhall Mokka with its 208-based crossover. It will sit on raised suspension and alloy wheels with what Peugeot describes as a look that is ‘full of energy’. The engine line-up will be much the same as for the 208 hatch, including the three-cylinder 1.2-litre petrol engine. No word on economy, emissions or pricing yet, but expect the 2008 to be keenly priced against its key rivals. A five-seat cabin with generous boot is expected for the 2008, but Peugeot has not confirmed if it will offer its new crossover with all-wheel drive.

Peugeot RCZ On sale: January

Peugeot is book-ending 2013 with its RCZ coupé, beginning with a mild refresh of the car in January. The RCZ gains a new front end to give it the latest family look, while new alloy wheels are used for both the Sport and GT versions. A new matt black finish is offered for the aluminium roof arches.

fleetnews.co.uk

Inside, the RCZ gains the sport kit for the GT models. Engines for the RCZ remain unchanged and there are small price increases across the board. At the end of the year, we’ll see the addition of the RCZ R, which will come with a 260bhp 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine. . It’s also expected to deliver CO2 emissions of 155g/km.

CARMAKER’S COMMENT Phil Robson, fleet director, Peugeot

As we move forward with our most modern, stylish and extensive range ever, we reflect positively on the objectives and promises made in these important times. In 2010, when the recession had only just started, Peugeot announced a new brand strategy, a new brand identity and an expanding product range spearheaded by the 3008 Crossover, the 5008 Compact MPV and the desirable RCZ Sports Coupé, but with lowering CO2 its primary objective. In the year that followed, further new product introductions arrived, with the iON all-electric car and the new 508. 2012 started with the first-ever production diesel-electric hybrid with the 3008 HYbrid4, followed by the flagship 508 RXH and 95g/km 508 Saloon Hybrid4. By mid-year the 208 was launched – with a lighter, larger and more aerodynamic hatchback design with very low CO2 from 87g/km.

“Our fleet business with 208 looks very healthy and strong”

Peugeot 208 GTI/XY On sale: summer

The Peugeot 208 range will expand in 2013 with the arrival of luxury and sporting models. For hot hatch enthusiasts, the arrival of the 208 GTi is welcome news, especially as it comes with a 200bhp 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine, six-speed manual gearbox and delivers 0-62mph in less than seven seconds. It’s expected the GTi will cost from around £19,000 and it will provide CO2 emissions of 139g/km. Economy is expected to be around 40mpg and it will come with lower, firmer, retuned suspension and 18-inch alloy wheels. At the other end of the scale, the 208 XY will offer as much luxury as Peugeot can muster. It will have unique chrome trims for the lights, mirrors and windows, as well as its own 17-inch alloy wheel design. On the inside, the XY will offer bespoke finishes for the trim, leather upholstery and a multimedia touchscreen. No word on prices yet.

For Peugeot, 2013 is looking very exciting indeed. The 208 is fast becoming a very popular choice with the luxurious 208 XY and the performance 208 GTi arriving in May. Our fleet business with 208 also looks very healthy and strong. The 2008 Crossover follows in September, bringing a more powerful version of the 1.2-litre petrol engine and low CO2 outputs. Vans are also proving especially popular, with our four-model range – Bipper, Partner, Expert and Boxer – accounting for a market share of 9.9% (it was 7.5% in 2010). Our customers, with a greater product choice offering, are clearly downsizing, benefiting from low CO2 models (which bring greater economical vehicles) and growth in models like the 1.3-tonne class-leading Boxer. It is also particularly reassuring to report that demand is increasing, most notably with leasing company car sales that have more than doubled since 2010. The company leads the average CO2 rating at 122.9g/km and is already well below the European 2015 target of 130g/km. So as customers continue to re-appraise Peugeot and appreciate the new model arrivals, 2013 is going to be a productive and exciting year! The Peugeot fleet centre can be contacted on 024 7688 4644.

2 013 L AUNCH GUIDE: SE AT

Seat Leon On sale: March The new Seat Leon is based on the same platform as the new Volkswagen Golf, so the Spaniard has the same breadth of driving talent. The big difference between the two is the price, with the Leon noticeably cheaper with prices starting from £15,670. There’s a new 181bhp 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine for the FR variant that delivers 65.7mpg and impressively low CO2 emissions of 112g/km for a performance model. It will see off 0-62mph in 7.5 seconds, but of more interest to fleet users will be the 99g/km 1.6 TDI version that also offers 74.3mpg average economy. This engine can also be ordered with a six-speed DSG twin-clutch gearbox with 102g/km emissions and 72.4mpg. Don’t assume this 1.6 TDI engine is the Econetic model, though, as Seat is planning a sub-90g/km version of the Leon within 12 months of the car going on sale in March. If you want the DSG transmission with the 1.6 TDI engine, you will need to upgrade to the £19,740 SE trim version as it is only available in the mid-spec trim. With a manual gearbox, you can have the 1.6 TDI in S or SE form, but not in the sport FR guise. The FR is offered only with the two more powerful petrol engines and the 2.0-litre diesel, but comes with Seat Drive Profile as standard. This allows the driver to choose between normal and sport modes for the steering and throttle response, and in the DSG-equipped models the Seat Drive Profile also alters the gearshift pattern to suit relaxed or sporty driving. Petrol engines are covered by TSI engines in 1.2-litre 104bhp, 1.4-litre 138bhp and 1.8-litre 177bhp forms.

There’s also a 148bhp 2.0-litre turbodiesel that’s expected to be popular with fleets. Like its new Golf cousin, the Seat Leon provides ample cabin space and a boot that now boasts 380 litres of luggage capacity compared to the previous model’s 340 litres. All new Leons come with seven airbags, which includes a driver’s knee airbag, air conditioning, ESP, CD stereo with touchscreen control and Bluetooth hands-free mobile phone connection.

Seat Leon SC

Seat Leon ST

Seat intends to distinguish the three-door version of the Leon from the hatch model by making it a sportier proposition. It will have its own bespoke suspension settings and have a more aggressive look. Even so, the same engine line-up as the five-door hatch will be available in the SC, though Seat expects more SC buyers to opt for the more powerful engines. A Cupra version will also be added with a more potent 2.0-litre turbo petrol that will be shared with the five-door Leon. Seat believes the SC will broaden its appeal to fleet and retail customers who are familiar with the outgoing Leon’s coupé-like styling.

For the first time in the Leon’s life, Seat will produce an estate version. It will use the same wheelbase as the hatch but have a longer rear overhang to create a boot that will be one of the largest in this sector. The same engine line-up as for the hatch will be offered in the estate, though the 104bhp 1.2 TSI engine may not be part of the ST’s range. An Econetic model will be launched early in 2014 with CO2 emissions of around 90g/km in the ST. It will use a version of the 1.6 TDI engine with 104bhp and five-speed manual gearbox.

Seat Ibiza Cupra On sale: January

The hottest Seat Ibiza goes on sale in January with the arrival of the Cupra. It offers 177bhp from a 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine and sees off 0-62mph in 6.9 seconds, while it tops out at 142mph. A seven-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox is standard for the Ibiza Cupra and it has steering wheel-mounted paddles to give the driver greater control. The Cupra will return an average of 47.9mpg and will cost from £18,825. It comes with an electronic differential lock to improve cornering grip, while hill start is also standard for the new hot Ibiza. There are 17-inch alloy wheels and gloss black exterior trim highlights to separate the Cupra from other Ibiza models. To further enhance the sporting feel of the Ibiza Cupra, Seat uses a valve in the exhaust to create a more purposeful sound when the driver wants it. There’s also lowered sports suspension, AP Performance brakes and ESP as standard.

Our range of Ecomotive models, which offer reduced CO2 emissions and fuel consumption without compromising the driving enjoyment typical of Seat, allows fleet managers and user-choosers to enjoy low wholelife costs and benefit-in-kind tax as well as serious driving fun. In addition to expanding and improving our range of vehicles, we have invested in our fleet team and building a sustainable network of fleet specialist dealers to ensure that Seat is a brand that’s easy to do business with. The Seat Fleet Business Centre is designed to work as an extension to the field sales team and dealer network, and plays an important role in improving customers’ experience of our brand. Our aim is to become the fleet manufacturer of choice, so if you’re looking for a business partner where you don’t have to compromise on terms, on service and on range, you can count on us to deliver. 2 013 L AUNCH GUIDE: TOYOTA – L E X US

Toyota RAV4 On sale: February The fourth generation Toyota RAV4 reaches the UK in February with a fresh exterior and interior design. Toyota says the dash and driver’s environment are now more ergonomic, while greater cabin space and a larger boot make the new RAV4 more practical. This is the first RAV4 to have a tophinged tailgate, which should make the boot more easy to access in tight parking spaces. It also promises to be better to drive thanks to Toyota’s new Dynamic Drive System that now has a Sport mode. With the new 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine, the RAV4 comes with front-wheel drive and offers 127g/km CO2 emissions with help from standard Stop-Start. There’s a 2.2-litre turbodiesel with 148bhp with manual or automatic gearbox options for 149g/km or 176g/km CO2 output. A 2.0-litre petrol rounds out the range with 167g/km emissions and it comes with all-wheel drive to match the more powerful diesel models.

Lexus LS460 On sale: January

The LS460 will expand the Lexus luxury saloon range this year. It will cost from £71,995 and comes with a 4.6-litre V8 petrol engine, but no hybrid technology. With emissions of 249g/km and 26.4mpg average economy, it’s unlikely to tempt many fleet customers away from their diesel or hybridpowered models. However, Lexus hopes the F Sport model option will tempt some keener drivers. Even so, it’s difficult to see many erring from the luxury trim.

Toyota Auris On sale: January Toyota hopes to challenge the supremacy of the Ford Focus, Vauxhall Astra and Volkswagen Golf with its much revised second generation Auris. There are sharper looks and driving manners, plus a more refined ride quality. It also boasts an improved hybrid power system that drops emissions to 87g/km and ups economy to 74.3mpg. The hybrid costs from £19,995, but the cheaper 1.4-litre diesel also offers sub-100g/km emissions at 99g/km and identical 74.3mpg consumption. Other engines are 1.3- and 1.6-litre petrols with 98- and 130bhp that offer 52.3mpg and 47.9mpg respectively. The 1.3 manages 125g/km CO2 output and the 1.6 comes in at 138g/km. Inside, the Auris offers similar space to most of its rivals, but the hybrid model now has a boot that is the same size as the rest of the range. This is because Toyota has moved the battery pack lower in the car to free up luggage room without affecting passenger space.

Toyota Auris Touring Sports On sale: summer Toyota is calling its new Auris estate the Touring Sports and it goes on sale in the latter part of the summer. It’s claimed to offer space to rival the Ford Focus and Vauxhall Astra estates. Not only is this the first time Toyota has offered the Auris as an estate, it will also be the first time this sector has seen a hybrid model available from any maker. Although Toyota has not confirmed specifications, it says the hybrid model should easily offer sub-100g/ km CO2 emissions and economy not far short of the hatch’s 74.3mpg combined consumption. Toyota will also offer the 1.6-litre petrol engine and 1.4 turbodiesel, but it’s unlikely there will be a 1.3-litre petrol estate variant.

Toyota ProAce On sale: spring The ProAce is Toyota’s replacement for the HiAce in European markets and it is based on the Citroën Dispatch/Fiat Scudo/Peugeot Expert triumvirate. This means the ProAce comes with a payload of up to 1,200kg depending on whether you choose the short or long body. It will also be capable of towing up to two tonnes. Twin sliding rear doors will be an option, along with top- or sidehinged rear doors, or rear doors that open to 270 degrees. Power for the ProAce comes from an 89bhp 1.6-litre turbodiesel or a

2.0-litre turbodiesel in 126bhp or 161bhp forms. Toyota says the ProAce has an 80-litre fuel tank and an average range of more than 770 miles between fills. Prices and more exact specifications for the ProAce will be announced ahead of the van’s launch in the spring.

2012 was a great year for Toyota and Lexus Fleet Services and our business customers. In the last six months alone we have launched five new models and the pace will continue in 2013, where we’ll be unveiling another five new vehicles in the first half of the year: the new RAV4, Verso, Auris Touring Sports, Lexus IS and the ProAce. We also launched our brilliant for business fleet proposition, our new fleet service charter and a range of user tax tools in response to the needs of businesses. This has contributed to our fleet sales success and recognition from the industry through recent award wins. This year we will be building on this success and focusing on surpassing the demands of our business customers by ensuring we deliver the best all-round package for fleet.

“New Auris showcases our ‘keen look’ styling”

Toyota Verso On sale: January The updated Toyota Verso goes on sale at the same time as the Auris and will cost from £17,495 for the five-seat version. Every other Verso model comes with seven seats. The engine range has been revised with more low-down pull for the 2.0-litre turbodiesel motor and lower CO2 emissions of 129g/km. Other engine choices include 1.6-litre and 1.8-litre petrol units, but these are unlikely to appeal to fleets unless you specifically want an automatic gearbox – not an option for the diesel unit. The trim range has been revised too, with the Verso adopting the same Active, Icon and Excel lines as the Auris.

Lexus IS On sale: summer Lexus has confirmed there will be no diesel engine for its new IS when it goes on sale this summer. Instead, there will be petrolelectric hybrid using a 2.5-litre direct injection four-cylinder engine and electric motor and

offering sub-100g/km CO2 emissions and fuel economy tipped to be around 70mpg. There has been no confirmation of other engine options, but there will be a two-door coupé version of the IS after the saloon’s launch.

The recent launch of our British-built New Auris showcases our new dynamic ‘keen look’ styling, that gives it real presence on the road. Boasting high efficiency, low emissions and excellent handling, it also delivers the desirability needs of fleet managers and drivers. As you’d expect from the World’s No.1 Green Brand*, we will be introducing more cleaner, tax efficient vehicles in our class-leading sub-100g/km CO2 range. From city cars to spacious seven-seat MPVs, we offer the widest range of vehicles delivering low emissions with serious budget savings without compromising on style, comfort levels or specification. When it comes to affordability, ownership costs are as significant as the purchase or monthly hire rentals. Taxation and emissions, fuel economy and servicing, insurance and depreciation all add up. These considerations are at the heart of our fleet package, ensuring we deliver excellent wholelife costs. In 2013, Toyota & Lexus Fleet Services will continue to help our customers reduce costs and enjoy exceptional service without compromising on performance or choice. 2 013 L AUNCH GUIDE: VAU X H A L L

Vauxhall Adam On sale: March

You will certainly not lack for options when it comes to choosing a Vauxhall Adam as your next company car. There are more than one million combinations of engine, colour, spec and extras. This is one way Vauxhall intends to tempt buyers away from other compact delights, such as the Fiat 500 and Mini. The Adam sits neatly between these two key rivals in size and price, with the entry-level model costing from £11,255. A mid-spec Glam model with the 86bhp 1.4-litre petrol engine is expected to be the most popular choice and is priced from £12,975. After that, the sky’s the limit with options that include different colours for the roof and door mirrors, wheels, interior trim finishes and even a rooflining with LED lights embedded to give the appearance of a starlight sky. Vauxhall will not offer a diesel engine in the Adam as it believes the market for small diesel cars is too limited. Instead it will offer three petrol engines. The entry point to the Adam range is a 69bhp 1.2-litre motor that feels a little short on power. The mid-range 86bhp 1.4-litre offers 51.4mpg and 129g/km, though fleet users may be tempted by the 1.2’s 56.5mpg and 118g/km emissions. Top of the Adam performance pile is the 99bhp 1.4-litre engine which can deliver 0-62mph in a reasonable 11.5 seconds compared to the tardier acceleration of the other motors. The 1.4 also provides 119g/km CO2 output and 55.4mpg average economy to make it the best all-round bet.

Vauxhall Cascada On sale: April

Shunning the trend for folding metal roofs, the Vauxhall Cascada comes with a fabric hood. It can be raised or lowered in 17 seconds and works on the move at speeds of up to 30mph. Vauxhall says the Cascada’s roof comes with a fleece-like lining to make it as snug as a coupé in cold weather, as well as making it quieter when the roof is raised. Inside, the Cascada offers seating for four and a minimum boot capacity of 280 litres, or 350 litres when the roof is raised. It also comes with Easy Entry front seats that have a position memory and the seatbelts incorporated into the seat to make access to the rear seats simpler.

fleetnews.co.uk

The Cascada promises good on-road driving manners as it comes with Vauxhall HiPerStrut front suspension as used on the Insignia VXR. The Cascada will be the first Vauxhall to use the new 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine, which will be offered in 167bhp form. Other Vauxhall models will enjoy this engine in 148bhp and 197bhp forms. To begin with, this engine will be offered only with a six-speed automatic gearbox. Other engines for the Cascada will include the 138bhp 1.4-litre turbo petrol and 163bhp 2.0-litre turbodiesel. There is no economy or emissions information as yet from Vauxhall.

Vauxhall Zafira Tourer On sale: summer

The Vauxhall Zafira Tourer will not see any styling or interior changes in 2013, but it will be the first Vauxhall to receive the company’s new 1.6-litre turbodiesel engine. This motor will replace the 1.7-litre diesel and be rolled out across the entire Vauxhall range in time. The company is remaining cagey about exact power outputs, emissions or economy figures, but it’s likely to offer around 140bhp to begin with and go further with more powerful versions. It is intended this engine will replace the whole 2.0-litre turbodiesel range of engines, so a 165bhp unit is the likely next step. When it goes on sale in the summer, the Zafira Tourer 1.6 turbodiesel is set to offer CO2 emissions of 109g/km. Economy figures are yet to be confirmed, but expect around 60mpg, with even more to come from an Ecoflex model. The 1.6-litre turbodiesel engine will use a six-speed manual gearbox.

Current Zafira Tourer to get new diesel

Vauxhall Insignia

On sale: September

The Vauxhall Insignia may not be due a complete replacement for some time, but the manufacturer is referring to its 2013 update of the hatch as a new car. This is because the Insignia that goes on sale in September will have a new face, rear end and, most significantly, a completely new interior. Vauxhall won’t say as yet what is so different about the cabin, but it promises a radical change from the current car’s and that it will be of higher quality and comfort than the existing model’s. However, Vauxhall does acknowledge the next-generation Ford Mondeo is looming large in its thoughts and to this end the Insignia will receive new 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines. The petrols will come in 148bhp, 167bhp and 197bhp forms, and there will also be a new dual-clutch gearbox. The 1.6-litre diesel is expected to come in 130bhp and 165bhp forms, with an Ecoflex model with stop-start reckoned to emit 109g/km and offer 62mpg economy. A new chassis set-up will further underpin the major changes to the Insignia aimed at offering a smoother ride and improved handling to take the fight to the Mondeo. No word on prices or specifications as yet for the next Insignia, but Vauxhall hints they will be much in line with the current model. The current Insignia is being updated later this year

CARMAKER’S COMMENT James Taylor, fleet sales director, Vauxhall

Vauxhall was one of the leaders in the fleet industry in terms of sales and innovation in 2012, especially when pitched against the gloom of the continental European automotive market. We launched six all-new models last year, including the revolutionary Ampera, the Zafira Tourer MPV, the Mokka compact SUV, the funky A-sector Adam, the Astra VXR hot hatch, the Combo van and a significant facelift to the Astra five-door and Sports Tourer models. This was a huge challenge but was fundamental to the continued growth of this great British brand. Looking forward into 2013, we intend to continue our successful short cycle reduction strategy in order to improve residual values for our customers while also further strengthening Network Q, the first national manufacturer-based used car programme. This year wholelife costs will continue to be a key focus area – we intend to improve against our competitors with a strong focus on wheels and tyres.

“This year wholelife costs will continue to be a key focus area” We will continue to keep company car drivers at the heart of everything we do with initiatives like our market-leading 3 Day Test Drive and award-wining fleet website: http://www.vauxhall.co.uk/fleet. Tech Line – Vauxhall’s high spec, low P11D trim – has been a hit with company car drivers and now accounts for 20% of all Astra and Insignias ordered by corporate fleet customers. Vauxhall Fleet will also maintain its best-in-class fleet marketing by keeping our customers informed with the right information, at the right time. Our Roadtrip app won plaudits from customers and the fleet industry alike, with more innovative app technology set to follow in 2013. Add our highly-successful home nations football sponsorship, industry-leading Lifetime Warranty and even more new vehicle launches in 2013, Vauxhall will continue to focus and grow our “true fleet” sales. 2 013 L AUNCH GUIDE: V OLV O

Volvo V40 Cross Country

On sale: January

Volvo is broadening its SUV line-up with the V40 Cross Country that revives a name not seen since the XC models were introduced a decade ago. The V40 Cross Country takes a very different approach to most SUVs, however, as it offers CO2 emissions as low as 99g/km. Based on the V40 hatch launched in the middle of 2012, the Cross Country is offered with 115bhp 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre turbodiesel engines in 150bhp and 177bhp tunes, as well as 1.6-litre and 2.5-litre turbo petrol engines with 180bhp and 254bhp respectively. The 2.5-litre engine is for the T5 variant and is the only one to come with four-wheel drive as standard, as well as Hill Descent Control and Hill Hold. For the 115bhp D2 turbodiesel model, its 1.6-litre engine is attached to a six-speed manual gearbox that combine to offer CO2 emissions of 99g/km. This version of the Cross Country also turns in 74mpg. Stop-start and regenerative braking is standard on all Cross Country models. The D2 Cross Country costs from £22,595, while the T5 begins at £33,875.

Volvo V40 R-Design On sale: January

The popular R-Design trim has been applied to Volvo’s new V40 hatch, with deliveries starting in February. It can be ordered now, with prices starting from £22,295. As with other R-Design models, the V40 has a sportier appearance, aided by a new front bumper, rear diffuser and 17-inch alloy wheels. It also has matt silver door mirrors, On the inside, the V40 R-Design has leather upholstery, sports steering wheel and pedals. There is also an illuminated gear lever knob, R-Design aluminium trim inserts and a crystal information display screen with unique blue colouring. Volvo also offers an R-Design Lux model that comes with Xenon headlights, rain sensing wipers, leather-faced sports seats, cruise control, keyless ignition and theatre lighting for the interior. While it may be a sporty option, the V40 R-Design is still available in the model’s most fleet-friendly versions, including the D2 that offers CO2 emissions of 94g/km. At the other end of the scale is the T5 R-Design that costs £31,390 and includes all-wheel drive.

Volvo XC90 On sale: winter

The current Volvo XC90 has done sterling service for the company, but its replacement will be welcome at the end of 2013. It will retain the seven-seat layout of the current model but will be the first to use a new modular platform that will underpin all of Volvo’s next generation of larger cars. Volvo will also only offer the next XC90 with four-cylinder engines, both petrol and diesel. There will also be a plug-in hybrid model using a similar drivetrain to the V60 Plug-in Hybrid.

fleetnews.co.uk

Volvo’s long-serving XC90 will be replaced next winter

CARMAKER’S COMMENT Selwyn Cooper, national corporate operations manager, Volvo Cars UK

2012 was a vital year for Volvo in the UK, with the launch of the all-new V40 further strengthening our appeal in the UK’s fiercely competitive business sales sector. With a unique blend of low emission luxury without restriction on equipment or spec level, the V40 is joined in 2013 by two new variants – the sports-inspired V40 R-Design and rugged V40 Cross Country. Available with emissions as low as 94g/km in a full range of trim levels, the new V40 range creates the widest possible choice for company car drivers. It’s not just emissions where the V40 scores highly either. When insurance industry experts Thatcham tested Volvo’s autonomous braking technology – City Safety – recently, it decided it was so effective at reducing accidents (and by default, their associated costs and VOR implications), it qualified for reduced insurance ratings, meaning fleets can now enjoy lower premiums. City Safety is fitted as standard on all V40 models.

Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid On sale: spring

Volvo has become the first manufacturer to offer a diesel-electric plug-in hybrid car. The V60 Plug-in Hybrid uses a 69bhp electric motor that works in conjunction with the car’s 2.4-litre turbodiesel engine. We’ve seen a diesel hybrid already from Citroën, but the Volvo V60 can be charged from an electric power socket too. This can be done with a normal domestic plug point or with a dedicated charger for rapid charging. It makes the V60 Plug-in Hybrid unique in the market at present and qualifies it for the Government’s £5,000 plug-in car grant. The battery pack sits under the boot floor in the V60, robbing it of 125 litres of luggage capacity, and powers an electric motor that drives the rear wheels. This makes the V60 Plug-in Hybrid a part-time four-wheel drive as the diesel engine powers the front wheels as with other V60 models. The hybrid can run on electric power alone for up to 32 miles with a full charge, when it also emits zero CO2. Overall, the V60 Plug-in Hybrid emits an average of 49g/km of CO2, yet the combined power of the diesel and electric motors means it can cover 0-62mph in 6.2 seconds. As a result, the V60 Plug-in Hybrid is a serious rival for the BMW ActiveHybrid 3 Series, though the Volvo is also set to rival the BMW on price with an expected cost of around £47,000. Even with the Government grant reducing this to £42,000, the V60 Plug-in Hybrid is a pricey car.

“We have a great opportunity to enhance our presence in fleet” Also coming in 2013 is another world-first from Volvo – the V60 Plug-in Diesel Hybrid. With emissions of just 48g/km CO2, the benefits of this car to fleet users are obvious from a tax and running costs perspective. Meanwhile, its three driving modes deliver a no-compromise solution for drivers too, thanks to the option of zero-tailpipe emission electric running, hybrid driving or combined diesel/electric power for maximum performance – all at the touch of a button. With such a strong product line-up, we have a great opportunity to enhance our presence in fleet decisionmakers’ minds and introduce more customers to the Volvo brand. With more to come in 2013, we look forward to capitalising on that opportunity throughout the year. www.volvocars.co.uk/business

2 013 L AUNCH GUIDE: A L FA - AUDI - F I AT - SKODA

Alfa Romeo 4C On sale: summer

It may be one of the fastest and most desirable new cars of 2013, but Alfa Romeo’s 4C coupé should also offer reasonable economy and emissions. The reason for this is that the 4C will tip the scales at less than one tonne thanks to extensive use of carbon fibre. It comes with a turbocharged petrol 1.8-litre engine that is thought to produce around 300bhp. It’s coupled to a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox and fuel consumption of 30mpg is likely, though Alfa has yet to confirm any economy or performance figures. An open-top Spider version of the 4C will be added to the range in 2014.

Fiat Panda 4x4/Trekking On sale: January

Fiat is expanding its Panda range with the addition of the 4x4 and Trekking models in January, which cost from £13,950 and £12,450 respectively. Both cars are available with the 85bhp 0.9-litre TwinAir petrol engine or a 75bhp 1.3-litre turbodiesel. The diesel engine offers 60.1mpg and 125g/km CO2 emissions in the Panda 4x4 or 67.3mpg and 109g/km in the front-wheel drive Trekking. Choose the TwinAir engine for the 4x4 and you’ll see 57.6mpg and 114g/km or 61.4mpg and 105g/km in the Trekking. Trekking and 4x4 versions of the Panda both have a raised ride height.

Fiat 500L On sale: April

The Fiat 500L might share its name with the strong selling bambino of the Italian firm’s range, but it’s based on the Punto. It’s longer than a Punto and as wide as a Bravo to make it a strong rival to compact MPVs such as the Citroën C3 Picasso. With the L standing for Large, the 500L offers more space than a 500 for front and rear seat passengers. There’s also a reasonable boot with three floor arrangements. The rear seats fold forwards in a single movement. It will cost from £14,990 when it reaches the UK in April and will be offered in Pop Star and Easy trims. There’s a choice of 0.9-litre and 1.4-litre petrol engines, as well as 1.3-litre and 1.6-litre turbodiesels. The smaller capacity petrol and diesel engines will interest fleet users most due to 109g/km and 110g/km CO2 emissions respectively. Best economy comes from the 0.9-litre TwinAir petrol at 60.1mpg.

fleetnews.co.uk

Skoda Octavia

On sale: March

The Skoda Octavia will be one of the most important launches of 2013 for fleet users. It’s based on the same platform as the new Volkswagen Golf, so it promises to be good to drive and comfortable. Skoda is also delivering on its usual mix of space and value as the Octavia hatch has a 590-litre boot to put it right among the very best for space in the large hatch sector. This isn’t so surprising as the new Octavia is quite a bit larger than the car it replaces, with the Rapid coming in below the Octavia for customers not wanting such a large car. The Octavia 1.6 TDI Greenline is set to offer 89g/km emissions. There will also be 1.2-litre and 1.4-litre petrol engines and a 148bhp 2.0-litre diesel. An estate version of the Octavia joins the range later in the summer, along with Scout four-wheel drive versions.

Audi RS5 Cabriolet On sale: spring

The Audi RS5 Cabriolet will be a rare choice for fleet users, not least because of its expected 26.0mpg average fuel economy and CO2 emissions expected to hit around 250g/km. This puts the RS5 drop-top in the highest company car tax band, while a price tag of £70,154 will further push it out of the reach of many. For the lucky few, they will enjoy a 444bhp 4.2-litre V8 engine that revs to 8,250rpm and sees the RS5 Cabrio from 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds. A seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch gearbox is standard, along with 19-inch alloy wheels and leather upholstery.

Audi A3 Saloon

On sale: autumn

The A3 saloon takes Audi into competition with the new MercedesBenz CLA as well as the BMW 1 Series Coupé. Based on the Volkswagen Group’s new MQB platform, shared with the A3 hatch, expect to see the A3 saloon offered in the same range of SE, Sport and S line, with prices much the same as for the five-door Sportback model that arrives in March this year. There will also be a 1.6-litre TDIe model with sub-100g/km CO2 emissions and fuel economy of around 74mpg. Stop-start technology will be offered with every A3 saloon model at launch.

Audi A8

Audi S3

On sale: winter

We’ll have to wait until the tail end of 2013 before we see the hot hatch version of the A3, but Audi promises the S3 will be worth the wait. A 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine punches out 296bhp to make the S3 one of the most potent cars in its class, which is enough to see it from 0-62mph in 5.4 seconds and on to a limited top speed of 155mph. Quattro four-wheel drive and an S-tronic seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox will be one option for the S3, or buyers can choose a six-speed manual gearbox. It will also come with a ride height lowered by 25mm, so handling and grip should be a given. Audi will be looking to attract fleet buyers with the S3’s 40.4mpg average fuel economy. This rises to 40.9mpg with the S-tronic gearbox, while CO2 emissions come in at a fleet-friendly 159g/km with the S-tronic or 162g/km with the manual.

Audi A3 Sportback

On sale: winter

On sale: March

We can expect fuller details about the facelift of Audi’s A8 luxury saloon to coincide with the Frankfurt motor show in September. Before then, Audi says the updated A8 will offer improved economy and emissions in all forms, so reckon on a 3.0-litre diesel model with emissions of around 145g/km and 50mpg to keep the A8 in the fight with the new Mercedes S-Class.

The Audi A3 Sportback is a five-door hatch version of the A3. The rear doors adds to the car’s practicality, helped by an extra 35mm in the wheelbase to free up greater rear legroom. There’s also a larger 380-litre boot, which puts the A3 Sportback on a par with the new Volkswagen Golf. Prices for the A3 Sportback start at £19,825 for the 1.4 TFSI model, but it’s the 99g/km 1.6-litre TDI and 2.0 TDI with 108g/km CO2 emissions that will most interest fleet users. The 1.6 returns 74.3mpg and the 2.0-litre is not far behind on 67.3mpg. Both diesels are offered in SE, Sport and S line trims with a six-speed manual gearbox.

Audi RS6 On sale: July The new Audi RS6 Avant actually has less power than its predecessor, thumping out 552bhp to the old model’s 572bhp. However, 90kg less weight and a new eight-speed automatic gearbox help to deliver 0-62mph in less time, the new car needing just 3.9 seconds. The turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine uses cylinder deactivation, cutting fuel supply to one bank of four cylinders, when the engine is under light throttle. This aids the new RS6 to give 28.8mpg average economy and 229g/km of CO2 emissions, compared to the old car’s 20.2mpg and 333g/km. Expect plenty of opulence, Quattro four-wheel drive and a price tag of around £80,000.

Audi SQ5

On sale: spring

The SQ5 may not be Audi’s first attempt at a high-performance SUV, but it’s the most credible. It uses a 309bhp twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 diesel to give 0-62mph in 5.1 seconds while still offering average consumption of 41.5mpg. CO2 emissions of 179g/km are less appealing to fleet users, while a £43,870 starting price should keep the SQ5 a rare sight on UK roads.

2 013 L AUNCH GUIDE: CHE V R OL E T - DACI A - MG - V OL K S WAGEN

Chevrolet Trax On sale: May

The Trax shares all but some styling and its badges with the Vauxhall Mokka. This means a three engine line-up starting with a 1.6-litre petrol with five-speed manual gearbox capable of 43.5mpg and CO2 emissions of 153g/km with help from standard start-stop technology. The best Trax to drive is the 1.4 Turbo model with 138bhp that offers 44.1mpg and 149g/km, which is reasonable given it has four-wheel drive where the 1.6-litre is front-drive only. A 1.7-litre turbodiesel with 128bhp delivers 62.8mpg and 120g/km in manual transmission, front-drive form and this is expected to be the best seller for fleet and retail buyers.

Volkswagen Golf On sale: January

Volkswagen Polo BlueGT

On sale: March The Volkswagen Polo BlueGT aims to offer the best of both worlds with strong performance and low emissions. It uses a 138bhp 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine to deliver 0-62mph in 7.9 seconds and 107g/km of CO2, along with 61.4mpg economy. There’s a choice of sixspeed manual or sevenspeed DSG dual-clutch gearboxes, both with the same economy and emissions. Prices for the Polo BlueGT start at £17,400 for the threedoor model.

It’s always a big event when a new Volkswagen Golf arrives and the seventh generation of the ever popular hatch is set to be one of the most important cars of the year. It gets in early with a January launch in the UK, with hot GTI and GTD models to follow in the summer. At launch, there are 1.2-litre and 1.4-litre petrol engines and two diesels in the shape of the 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre motors. It’s the 1.6 that will interest most fleet users as it now comes with CO2 emissions of 99g/km coupled to 74.3mpg average economy, or 72.4mpg and 102g/km if you prefer the seven-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox in place of the standard five-speeder. The 1.6-litre diesel is available on S and SE models, with the larger 2.0-litre diesel offered in SE and sportier GT trims. Volkswagen has extended the new Golf’s wheelbase, so it now has more cabin space and a larger boot. It also comes with more standard equipment, including a 5.8-inch colour touchscreen in the dash to work the stereo and Bluetooth connection, and a driver’s knee airbag. Prices for the Golf start from £16,330. A Golf Estate model will join the range when it arrives late in 2013.

Volkswagen e-Up On sale: winter

The Up range gains another member late in 2013 with the all-electric e-Up. It’s identical in size to the standard threedoor Up and the battery pack and electric motor do not impinge on boot or cabin space. However, they do add around 200kg to the overall weight of the Up. VW says the e-Up will have a range of more than 90 miles per charge and it comes with charging sockets for a normal domestic plug and quick charger. There’s no confirmation from VW on price, but it says it will be very competitive against the likes of the Mitsubishi i-MIEV.

Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet On sale: April

The new Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet builds on the sportier nature of the second generation of modern Beetle, following its coupé sister model’s lead. Compared to the previous model, the new Beetle Cabrio is lower, wider and longer, and it has a larger, more easily accessed boot. There are 1.2-litre, 1.4-litre and 2.0-litre petrol engines, as well as the diesels in 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre forms. The 1.6 TDI BlueMotion provides 62.8mpg economy, 118g/km CO2 emissions and costs from £19,970.

Dacia Sandero Stepway Dacia Sandero On sale: May

On sale: January

The Sandero Stepway is a Sandero with some pseudo-SUV hints. The suspension is raised by 40mm, while front and rear scuff plates, wheelarch extensions and roof bars give some off-road image. A 898cc petrol engine with 90bhp offers 125g/km CO2 emissions and 52.3mpg. A more fleet-compliant 1.5-litre turbodiesel has the same 90bhp power output but 105g/km emissions and 70.6mpg.

Billed as the cheapest new car on sale in the UK, the Dacia Sandero undercuts the likes of the Kia Rio and Ford Fiesta by some margin. It costs from £5,995, but the one most fleet buyers will be interested in is the 1.5-litre turbodiesel with emissions of 99g/km and 74.3mpg average economy. This engine only comes in the two higher trim grades of Ambience and Laureate, but even so prices start from only £8,395. Despite its low prices, the Sandero is decent to drive, though equipment levels are only really decent on the top spec Laureate.

Dacia Duster

Logan saloon is the basis for the MCV

On sale: January The Dacia Duster has been grabbing headlines for its very keen pricing, but its appeal goes deeper than that. It’s good to drive, spacious and, in top spec Laureate trim, well equipped. It’s not fully on a par with the likes of the Skoda Yeti Greenline, but CO2 emissions of 130g/km and 56.5mpg for the front-drive 1.5-litre diesel are acceptable. There’s also a four-wheel drive version with 137g/km emissions and 53.3mpg that is very capable off-road.

Dacia Logan MCV On sale: summer

The Dacia Logan Multi-Convivial Vehicle is hardly the catchiest title for a new car, so the Romanian firm prefers Logan MCV. Whatever you call it, it’s a low-cost seven-seater that will give the likes of the Citroën Berlingo and Renault Kangoo a run for their money. Engines will be shared with the Sandero and Duster models, so expect a 1.5-litre turbodiesel with CO2 emissions below 120g/km. Prices will also be keenly pitched and are expected to start from around £10,000.

MG 6 DTi-Tech On sale: January

The MG 6 has been let down from the start by its poor petrol engine. For 2013, MG addresses this with its 1.9-litre DTi-Tech turbodiesel that offers 148bhp and 258lb/ft of torque. It comes with a six-speed manual gearbox and average economy of 53.8mpg, which lags some way behind the class best. CO2 emissions are also adrift of the best in class at 139g/km. While the MG’s new engine is good to use and finally gives the 6 a more rounded feel, it cannot compete on overall costs for most fleet users. Even small improvements to the interior for 2013 are not enough to elevate the MG 6 from the middle ranks.

2 013 L AUNCH GUIDE: HONDA - INFINITI - M A ZDA - NIS S A N - REN AULT

Mazda 6

On sale: January Mazda may be launching only one new car in 2013, but it’s a hugely-important one for the Japanese company as it’s the completely new 6 in saloon and estate forms. The new 6 encompasses all of Mazda’s innovative Skyactiv technology, which helps improve economy and emissions without using hybrid technology. There are 143bhp and 162bhp 2.0-litre petrol engines that offer 51.4mpg and 47.9mpg respectively. Or you can go for the 2.2-litre turbodiesel in 148bhp and 172bhp forms that offer emissions as low as 108g/km. The diesels can also offer economy of up to 68.9mpg. Mazda has priced the new 6 keenly from £19,595.

Honda CR-Z On sale: January

The CR-Z hybrid coupé has been revised by Honda for 2013 and features more power. There is now 119bhp on tap from the 1.5-litre petrol engine, which is 7bhp more than the previous model, while the electric motor now produces 20bhp rather than the last car’s 14bhp. Together, the more powerful hybrid system cuts the 0-62mph time to 9.1 seconds for the Sport model and 9.5 seconds for the GT. This doesn’t impact on emissions, which remain at 116g/km for the Sport and 122g/km for the GT. Economy also stays the same at 56.5mpg and 54.3mpg for the Sport and GT versions respectively. The CR-Z also has a new front bumper design, grille and rear diffuser, as well as 17-inch alloy wheels for the GT. There is also now more storage space in the door pockets.

Honda small SUV

Honda Civic 1.6 i-DTEC

On sale: January

Honda’s much-anticipated new 1.6-litre turbodiesel engine arrives at the start of 2013 in the Civic hatch. It offers 118bhp, 78.5mpg average economy and 94g/km CO2 emissions. The Civic 1.6 i-DTEC has considerable appeal for fleet users due to its emissions, which are helped by the new engine being made from aluminium to reduce weight. It uses a six-speed manual gearbox and is available in SE, ES and EX trims. Prices start at £19,400 and equipment levels are identical to those of the 2.2-litre turbodiesel Civic other than the 1.6-litre model has 16-inch alloy wheels. Honda will also launch an estate version of the Civic by the end of the year.

On sale: winter

Honda is planning a small SUV to sit below the CR-V in its range. Referred to by Honda as the Urban SUV Concept at the moment, the company says it will offer a spacious interior. It will be based on the Jazz platform and is likely to use the same engines as the supermini, which should mean a hybrid model and possibly an all-electric version in due course.

Renault Clio

On sale: February

The all-new Renault Clio goes on sale from February and offers CO2 emissions as low as 83g/km coupled to economy of 88.3mpg. This is for the new eco model that comes with a 1.5-litre 89bhp turbodiesel engine. There is also a 0.9-litre petrolpowered eco model with 89bhp that returns 65.7mpg and 99g/km. Stop/start is standard in both of these models. Other engines in the Clio line-up include a 74bhp 1.2-litre petrol and the 0.9 TCe and 1.5 diesel in non-eco versions.

Nissan Juke Nismo On sale: January The Juke Nismo offers a 197bhp 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine and a starting price of £19,995. It’s part of Nissan’s move to offer more performance-oriented models and it covers 0-62mph in 7.8 seconds, with a top speed of 134mph. The Nismo comes with stiffer suspension, retuned steering and 18-inch alloy wheels. Economy of 40.9mpg and 159g/km CO2 emissions should see the Juke Nismo on some company car lists.

Infiniti Q50

On sale: summer Infiniti is readying a more serious rival to the BMW 3 Series in the form of its new Q50 saloon, which will be joined by coupé and convertible models after launch. The Q50 will drop the firm’s Nissan-sourced V6 petrol engine in favour of much more efficient turbocharged four-cylinder motors. A low emissions diesel is also due to help the Q50 tackle its premium rivals. Infiniti will release further details at the Geneva motor show in March.

Nissan Leaf On sale: spring The Nissan Leaf is set to enjoy a very mild facelift ahead of going into production in the UK at the company’s Sunderland plant. One big change is under the skin, where the Leaf is now 80kg lighter than before to help improve its range. On a full charge, the Leaf can now cover 141 miles, up from the previous 124-mile range.

Nissan Qashqai On sale: winter

Current Qashqai is due for replacement this year

Nissan Note

The enormous success of the current Nissan Qashqai has paved the way for a whole generation of crossover models from many manufacturers. Now Nissan is to replace the first-generation Qashqai with a slightly larger car with more passenger space and less weight. Two- and four-wheel drive models will be offered and the new Qashqai is set to use a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine that will replace the present 1.6-litre petrol. There will also be a new 1.6-litre turbodiesel with emissions of around 100g/km in frontwheel drive form.

Invitation concept car will form the basis of the Note

On sale: September A new Note will join the Nissan range in September and the company says it will shift the model further upmarket. Nissan also says the new Note will be much closer in driving dynamics to the Ford Fiesta, which the Japanese firm sees as its key rival. The European Note will be built at Nissan’s factory in Sunderland and come with a supercharged 1.2-litre petrol engine. This engine will be able to deliver sub-100g/km CO2 emissions. There is also likely to be a 1.4-litre petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbodiesel, with the diesel capable of less than 100g/km emissions and 70mpg.

Renault Zoe On sale: summer The Renault Zoe will bring the electric car much further within the reach of many buyers and fleet users. It has a starting price of £13,650, which includes the Government’s Plug-In Car Grant’s £5,000 contribution. You will have to factor in the cost of renting the battery pack every month, which costs from £70 per month depending on miles covered. Renault says the Zoe has a range of 130 miles per charge.

Renault Compact Crossover On sale: May Renault is planning its own rival to the Nissan Juke that will be based on the new Renault Clio platform and take on the Vauxhall Mokka too. Its styling is influenced by the Captur concept car Renault showed at the Geneva motor show in 2011, but the French company has yet to name its new model. It’s likely to use the 0.9-litre and 1.2-litre petrol engines from the Clio, along with the 1.5 turbodiesel with 89bhp. A turbocharged 1.2 petrol with 118bhp is also another likely choice. There are also hints at a RenaultSport version with a 197bhp 2.0-litre engine to challenge the Nissan Juke DIG-T.

2 013 L AUNCH GUIDE: H Y UNDA I - JAGUA R - K I A - L A ND R O V ER

Land Rover Range Rover

On sale: January

The fourth generation of the Range Rover makes extensive use of aluminium to shed more than 400kg from its overall weight compared to the previous model. To complement this, there are new petrol and diesel engines, though the 503bhp supercharged petrol model with its 20.5mpg and 322g/km emissions will not feature on many business drivers’ choice lists.

Jaguar XFR-S

Jaguar F-type

On sale: May

Jaguar’s much vaunted F-type sports car arrives in mid-2013 and comes with a choice of V6 or V8 petrol engines. The 488bhp 5.0 V8 is an all-new engine and propels the F-type from 0-62mph in 4.3 seconds and on to 186mph, while emitting 259g/km of CO2. The 3.0-litre V6 engines come in standard 335bhp and 375bhp S forms, offering 0-62mph in 5.1 and 4.8 seconds respectively, while top speeds come in at 161mph and 171mph. Emissions for the V6 engines are the most fleet-friendly, registering 209g/km for the standard model and 213g/km for the S. The V8’s 259g/km will make it a rare choice for fleets. So, will the starting price of £58,500 for the base V6 and hefty £79,950 for the V8 S.

fleetnews.co.uk

The 4.4-litre V8 diesel is almost as quick as the petrol version, covering 0-62mph in 6.5 seconds, and offers more acceptable 32.5mpg economy and 229g/km. However, the base 3.0 V6 diesel is the best to drive and run thanks to 37.7mpg and 196g/km. Mix in the Range Rover’s supreme comfort and opulence and it is a serious rival for the best luxury saloons in the world.

On sale: June Jaguar’s fastest ever saloon car will hit the road when the XFR-S goes on sale in June. It will offer 542bhp compared to the standard XFR’s 503bhp. This endows the S with a top speed limited to 186mph and 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds, helped along by an eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard. A £79,995 list price will make this a rare sight on the UK’s roads, but the XFR-S will be easily identified by its larger front air intakes, carbon fibre front spoiler and a large rear spoiler. The interior of the S comes with ‘carbon effect’ leather upholstery. Outside, there are 20-inch alloy wheels.

Kia Carens On sale: spring

Kia Proceed

The Carens MPV is the latest Kia to receive a makeover and it’s on sale in the early spring. Based on a new platform shared with the Ceed, the new Carens has a longer wheelbase to offer more spacious accommodation for five or seven passengers depending on which model you choose. Three engines are due for the Carens, comprising a single 1.6-litre petrol motor and two 1.7-litre turbodiesels that should offer low emissions and high economy. Kia will confirm prices closer to the Carens going on sale, but it’s expected to cost from around £16,500.

On sale: spring

It’s a busy year for the Ceed range with the arrival of the new threedoor Proceed model and then Kia’s first hot hatch in the shape of the Proceed GT. The standard three-door model will closely follow the five-door’s engine line-up, with a sub-100g/km 126bhp 1.6-litre turbodiesel with stop-start the most obvious fleet choice. This model will also deliver similar economy to the five-door’s 76.3mpg, though Kia also says the Proceed will be distinguished from the Ceed with a more sporty feel. Prices are set to start at around £16,000. The Proceed GT will also spawn a five-door version and they will share a 201bhp 1.6-litre petrol engine coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox. It will cover 0-62mph in 7.9 seconds and comes with Recaro front sports seats and 18-inch alloy wheels. Kia will confirm prices for the Proceed GT models closer to it going on sale in the summer.

Hyundai ix35

On sale: summer

Hyundai will update the ix35 this summer with a lightly restyled version that takes its looks from the recently-launched Santa Fe. A smoother front end and some interior upgrades to materials will be the most obvious changes. There is also likely to be a more prominent lower front bumper section to give the ix35 more of an off-roader look. Hyundai is planning more efficient engines and a revised 1.7-litre diesel that should see the front-drive model dip under 130g/km.

Hyundai i30 3dr On sale: January The Hyundai i30 range is rounded off by the arrival of the three-door at the start of 2013, with prices from £13,995. It has a different front bumper, grille and fog lights to give a more sporty appearance than the five-door model. Sport models have LED rear lights, 17-inch alloy wheels and rear privacy glass. Power comes from the same 1.4litre and 1.6-litre petrol engines as the five-door model, and the 1.6 turbodiesel in 109bhp and 126bhp forms is also used. In 109bhp Blue Drive form, the 1.6 diesel delivers 74.3mpg and 100g/km CO2. Figures for the more potent 126bhp diesel have yet to be confirmed.

Mercedes S-Class

Mercedes SLS Electric Drive On sale: June

On sale: autumn

Few will be fortunate enough to find an SLS AMG on their company car list, never mind the battery-powered SLS Electric Drive. However, this high-performance electric vehicle shows Mercedes is serious about offering EVs to customers, even if this is more of a technical showcase. It’s capable of 0-62mph in 3.9 seconds and has 740bhp on tap thanks to an electric motor housed in each wheel. Mercedes says the SLS Electric Drive takes three hours for a quick charge but 20 hours for a full charge.

The next S-Class promises to carry on this luxury saloon’s domination of its class. Mercedes says it will be even more refined, comfortable and cost less to run thanks to improved engines with lower emissions and better economy. No hard and fast facts have been released yet, but expect them during the summer ahead of the S-Class’s autumn launch. Mercedes has let it be known the S-Class will be brimmed full of even more technology, such as Braking Assist Plus with Cross-Traffic Assist.

Mercedes CLA On sale: summer

Mercedes is applying its thinking from the CLS to a smaller sector with the CLA coupé, which is effectively a four-door coupé version of the A-Class. It will be offered with some of the A-Class’s engines, so expect some of the more powerful petrol and diesel engines with similar economy and emissions.

Mitsubishi Mirage On sale: March

Mitsubishi is taking an aggressive approach to tackling the supermini sector with its new Mirage. It tips the scales at only 845kg, making it lighter than a Mazda2. The low weight helps greatly with CO2 emissions, which come in at 92g/km for the 70bhp 1.0-litre petrol engine and 96g/km for the 1.2-litre with 79bhp. Both of the petrol engines have stop-start technology as standard. Each has a five-speed manual gearbox and the 1.0-litre offers 70.5mpg, while the 1.2-litre manages 68.8mpg. Regenerative braking and low rolling resistance tyres are also part of the Mirage’s standard kit. A CVT (continuously variable transmission) gearbox will also be offered with the 1.2-litre engine, delivering 95g/km emissions.

Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV On sale: summer

The Outlander PHEV aims to make a range-extender version of the Outlander completely acceptable to buyers. A 2.0-litre petrol engine works as a generator for the battery pack only when the electric charge runs low. Two electric motors are used to power one axle each, making the Outlander the world’s first fourwheel drive range-extender vehicle. The Outlander PHEV has a range of 547 miles. It also produces CO2 emissions of 49g/km and can run in electriconly zero emissions mode for up to 34 miles. Prices are not yet known, but expect it to cost around £30,000 including the £5,000 Government Plug-in Car grant.
