One of Europe’s northernmost borders, Lapland is a vast arctic wonderland, where fairy-tales are interwoven with wild natural beauty and lit by the emerald celestial wonder of the Northern Lights.

A tale of two seasons, the sun sets over Lapland for a only a couple of hours during the summer months, while winter transforms the landscape into a snow-coated Christmas-haven where you might even catch a glimpse of Santa Claus himself.

From the regional capital of Rovaniemi, you can

set out to explore the spectacular scenery that Lapland has to offer, or visit the Santa Claus Village and the nearby Snow Hotel. In the months of summer there are plenty of green national parks and great lakes that you can experience through guided tours. During winter, you can sign up for tours on either a sled drawn by huskies or reindeer. The Sami people have survived in the area for thousands of years, and reindeer have been essential to their survival. Visitors who venture to the Arctic Circle can try the local

delicacy of dried reindeer meat, as well as other tasty treats like smoked salmon, cloudberry jam as well as the modern invention of a reindeer kebab. If you are visiting Lapland between September and April, you can gaze at the truly amazing natural phenomenon of the Northern Lights. We could give you a scientific explanation as to what the Northern Lights are, but the truth is that they’re pure magic. If you don’t believe us, go see for yourself!

ITINERARY Day 1 Fly from your UK airport to Kittila, where you’ll collect your ski suit & boots before heading to your hotel. You’ll have some time to explore the resort before dinner.

Day 2 Today your Arctic experience really begins.

Head out into unspoilt woodlands to enjoy an exciting morning of activities including a reindeer sleigh, husky dog sled and snowmobile mini ride. You can also try out snowshoe walking to really experience the beautiful landscape! Your afternoon is free so spend it at leisure - you could head to the ski slopes (organise locally) or try out more winter thrills on some other optional trips – it’s up to you!

Day 3 Today you have some leisure time to do as you please or simply take the time to relax before heading off on your evening excursion to the Snow Village. Here you will have a guided tour of this unique village made entirely of snow and ice. Marvel at the intricate carvings in each room and enjoy a short Northern Lights presentation in the Ice Cinema, before heading outside for a chance to see the Aurora Borealis for yourself (weather conditions permitting).

Day 4 Enjoy a delicious breakfast and then check out. You now have a couple of hours free to relax before you fly home.

The Northern Lights Known as the Aurora Borealis, meaning ‘the dawn of the north’, the celestial phenomenon is caused by collisions of particles from earth and the sun in the atmosphere – scientific talk for pure magic!

A clear night sky is required for the Northern Lights to be visible, which is why the winter months are the most likely time to experience this natural wonder. The lights can sometimes be unpredictable in their appearance, so keep your fingers crossed for a sighting.
