Caesarea, Mount Carmel, Haifa, Acre, Sea of Galilee Today you depart from Tel Aviv and head north for the ancient city of Caesarea (but don’t worry, you’ll have time to take breakfast first). It was here that Cornelius the Centurion and his family were baptised, and it was also here that St Paul came before King Agrippa to defend himself before travelling to Rome. The tour continues to Mount Carmel, where you can learn about how Elijah fought the Prophets of Baal, before heading to Haifa where you can indulge in a bit of sightseeing and sun-lounging on the beach. The last stop of the day is at the old fortress city of Acre. An important base for many different empires through time, it was also a safe harbour for the many European crusaders that came to the Holy Land in the Middle Ages. Finally, we head inland to Galilee, where we’ll check in at the Kibbutz Ginosar Village.
DAY 4
Golan Heights, Tabgha You will be exploring the area around the kibbutz on this fine Sunday. First you will drive to the Golan Heights, where a stop at the ruins of a former Syrian fortress and the Druze villages is included, before heading to the Sea of Galilee. Here, biblical references abound, as the shores of this large inland lake is where Jesus performed most of his miracles. Among other places on the tour we will be stopping at Tabgha, where Jesus fed five thousand people with fish and bread, and the Mount of Beatitudes, the site on which he gave his Sermon on the Mount. In the evening you’ll return to the kibbutz for dinner and a rest in the shade.
DAY 5
Cana of Galilee, Nazareth, Bethlehem, Jerusalem Today you will continue your exploration of Israel’s holy sites. Start at Cana of Galilee, where the first Christian miracle is said to have happened, before continuing to Jesus’ home town of Nazareth. Pay a visit the Church of Annunciation and Mary’s Well before heading on to the next site. You’ll drive through the Jordan Valley in order to get to the river where St John was baptised, and then you’re off to Bethlehem. Exploring the early years of Jesus’ life, naturally leads to a stop off for a visit to Manger Square and the Church of Nativity. When the sun starts to set on the horizon, you’ll set off for Jerusalem, where the Caesar Village welcomes you with a delicious dinner.
DAY 6
Jerusalem Jerusalem was for centuries considered the centre of the known universe, and today it is a cosmopolitan hub full of culture and history ripe for exploring. You’ll be taking in the main sights of the city on a tour that takes you past the Mount of Olives, the Garden of Gethsemane and the Church of the Agony, before entering the walled Old City. Come face-to-face with the impressive Wailing Wall and the Dome of the Rock, explore some of the colourful souks, and walk along the Via Dolorosa, believed to be the path that Jesus walked to his crucifixion. Next, we drive to Mount Zion where we pay a visit to the Room of the Last Supper and, if we have time, the Garden Tomb. After this, we return to Jerusalem again for dinner at the hotel.
DAY 7
Tel Aviv Today is either a day you can take at leisure to explore more of Jerusalem, or one where you can opt for a tour of Masada and the Dead Sea. Driving along the coast of the Dead Sea, you’ll arrive at Masada. The ruins of the old fortress sit on top of an almost 400 metre tall rock, and as you travel to the top via cable car, you can learn all about the history of this place, which was built by King Herod and it was also the scene where a group of Jewish warriors valiantly fought against the might of the Roman Empire. While in the area, you can also take advantage of the unique opportunity to swim (or rather float) in the Dead Sea. Concluding a day of adventures, you drive back to the hotel in Jerusalem, where the final dinner of the tour is served.
