Korčula Island CROATIA

A part of Croatia’s Dalmatian archipelago, Korçula Island takes its name from the Greek settlers who came here in the 6th century B.C. and named it Black Corcyra, after their native land of Corfu and the dark pine forests that cover the island. The main city of the island, also

named Korçula, links to the mainland via ferry and offers numerous glimpses into the island’s ancient past, where not only Greeks held the island, but Venetians, Hungarians and even the Byzantine Empire have been its rulers. Visitors to Korçula can wander through

the city’s old town, where it’s cathedral, fortifications and narrow streets make it seem like you’ve travelled back in time for a brief while, or simply relax and enjoy the slow pace of life that makes Korçula an enchanting island in the Mediterranean Sea.

Hotel Aminess Lume KORČULA ISLAND, CROATIA Located on the southern coast of the Croatian island of Korçula, the Hotel Aminess Lume offers uninterrupted views of the Adriatic Sea and the archipelago of small islands that protrude through the surface of the glistening water. Enjoy the lush scenery from the hotel’s terrace or bar, or have the sea as a stunning backdrop as you tuck into a delicious local dish at the restaurant. With its proximity to the sea, there is

a plethora of water-based things to do here, including kayaking, windsurfing and snorkelling; and for those seeking to explore the surrounding countryside, it’s furthermore possible to hire bikes or simply go for a stroll among the pine-clad hillsides. You are, of course, also perfectly welcome to just lounge by the outdoor swimming pool and enjoy the sun and the splendid facilities that surround you at the Hotel Aminess Lume.

Stay in a Double Room with Balcony & Sea View Famous for its luxurious resorts, beach holidays, fortified wine, as well as being the birthplace of football-legend Cristiano Ronaldo, Madeira is a multifaceted destination that opens up more of itself the further into the island you venture. The capital of Funchal is a good place to start your exploration.

Things to do NEARBY

KORCULA OLD TOWN An area steeped in rustic charm and natural medieval beauty, Korcula Old Town is a 30-minute journey for the hotel and is home of St Mark’s Cathedral, one of the finest Dalmatian architectural buildings in Croatia. The Abbey Treasury and the Icon Gallery are also unmissable attractions in the town while there are also an abundance of local restaurants, quaint bars and boutique stores scattered throughout the area.

MARCO POLO’S HOME Legend has it that world-famous explorer, Marco Polo, was born on Korcula and his house resides on Ulica Depolo Street. Perfect for history lovers and culture vultures, a visit to his alleged birthplace will allow you to explore the home and embark on guided tours from April through to October.

LUMBARDA BEACHES Lumbarda is the best area on Korcula for a range of sandy beaches, most of which are surrounded by beautiful vineyards. Vela Pržina is arguably the most beautiful; a golden crescent of sand with shallow, crystal-clear waters, a bar with drinks and snacks, and a volleyball court, making it the ideal family-friendly location.
