VILNIUS Lithuania

The first port of call in the interesting country of Lithuania most certainly has to be Vilnius, the capital city. Vilnius is known for its baroque architecture, displayed prominently in the medieval Old Town, which is the largest in Central and Eastern Europe. Here, you can’t go wrong with a day of sightseeing, beginning with a visit to the neoclassical Vilnius Cathedral. Often

mistaken for a museum due to its unusual exterior, the cathedral stands tall in the centre of the main square, with a separate bell tower. Other notable attractions include The Museum of Genocide Victims, the Gothic St. Anne’s Church, and the 16th century Gate of Dawn. Additionally, for the best choice of culinary treats both traditional and international, Vilnius is

the place to go. You’ll find a multitude of restaurants ranging from quick eats to more gourmet affairs while you can’t miss out on sampling cepelinai, the national dish. Large dumplings made up of a mixture of raw and cooked potatoes filled with pork and soaked in a sauce of sour cream and bacon; this is truly indulgence at its finest.

RIGA Latvia

Set on the Baltic Sea at the mouth of the River Daugava, Riga is undoubtedly the vibrant cultural centre of Latvia. The capital city is dominated by majestic Gothic spires which is beautifully complemented by the striking collection of flamboyant art nouveau buildings, along with its narrow cobblestone streets and colourful colonial squares that make the

metropolis appear as if it emerged directly out of a fairytale. Timeless tradition comes to life at Riga’s Old Town, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997 and features the likes of Riga Cathedral which is the largest medieval church in the Baltics, St. Peter’s Church, and the Three Brothers which are neighbouring houses, each built in a different century.

The Latvian capital is home to Europe’s largest food market, located near the edge of the River Daugava and houses over 3,000 vendors selling a range of fresh local produce. Surprisingly, Riga offers the best of both worlds thanks to the resort of Jurmala, also known as the Pearl of Latvia. Just a 20-minute train journey from Riga’’s central station, Jurmala boasts a 20-mile

TALLINN Estonia

An ideal place to city break because of its incredible beauty, mix of old new, and relatively unknown status as a European capital worth visiting, Tallinn has everything you could hope for from a short trip away. Its medieval Old Town is a UNESCO-listed heritage site and it contains a number of amazing architectural pieces for you to marvel at during your stay – with the typical starting

place being Tallinn’s Town Hall Square. The heart of the city for more than eight centuries, it perfectly encapsulates the city’s personality. With a quaint market, great views in every direction, and beautiful Christmas markets in the winter, it has something for everyone. Try some rich Estonian food in the market, with pork and cheese being staples in numerous dishes. There are plenty of

restaurants in the square and some even have an interesting Middle Ages theme, with staff dressed in period costume and music filling the air. There are several parks worth seeing in the city when you need some greenery – including Lindamäe Park and the gardens at Kadriorg Palace chief among these.
