Good afternoon and welcome to today’s important Sky Bet League One game against Oldham Athletic at Highbury Stadium. Today’s game is one of huge importance and I have no doubt that both teams are desperate to win. It will have a significant bearing on the fight for survival for both teams.
Saturday’s point at Southend was an encouraging one for ourselves. I think we’re playing very well at the moment but we have to keep our run going.
It will not prove to be the defining game though but I do admit it will be a very important one in our quest for survival in this division.
We have to ensure that we hopefully remain unbeaten for the remainder of the campaign, and that has to be our goal.
I’ve watched Oldham under John Sheridan and they’re a really well organised side. They’re hard working and give up very few goals. They’ve not been so prolific at the other end but they seem to know how to win as of late and he deserves great credit for that.
We want to accumulate as many points as we can and our real goal should not just to remain unbeaten between now and the end of the season, but to win the remaining five fixtures. The mood is very good amongst the lads right now and there’s optimism about how we’re playing. That has to continue. The optimism has been reflected in the recent performances but they’re very much aware that we’re in a dogfight. However there is a belief in there that if we keep playing and doing the things we’re good at, then we can certainly survive. I hope you all enjoy the game, I hope you all enjoy, Steven

Introducingoldham athletic In town today are Oldham Athletic, who make the 59 mile journey from Greater Manchester to Highbury Stadium to contest a Sky Bet League One encounter against Fleetwood Town. The Latics have enjoyed an upturn in fortunes since the re-appointment of John Sheridan as manager at Boundary Park back as he replaced David Dunn in the hot-seat in January. Athletic lost their last game 2-1 against Barnsley, but he result meant they stayed in 18th place in the standings. Sheridan, who is seen as a cult hero within the town, having served the club as a player, and as a manager on two separate occasions, started his playing career as an apprentice at Manchester City in 1981. A native of the Stretford area in the city

of Trafford, Sheridan subsequently moved onto Leeds United a year later, where he would make 230 appearances, scoring 47 times from his midfield position over a seven year stay at Elland Road. After departing Leeds, he spent a brief spell under Brian Clough at Nottingham Forest, before moving to Sheffield Wednesday in 1989. In seven years at Hillsborough, Sheridan turned out 199 times and helped the Owls to League Cup glory in 1991 in the process. Later in his career, Sheridan spent time with Birmingham City, Bolton Wanderers, and Doncaster, and ended his playing days at Oldham, making 144 appearances during a prolonged stay at the club. Sheridan officially hung up his boots in 2004 after also making international appearances for the Republic of Ireland, but had experienced time in the dugout on a
FactFile temporary basis at Oldham.
Name: Oldham Athletic Football Club
In June 2006, Sheridan was appointed as manager at Oldham permanently, spending three-years with the team before Chesterfield came calling for his services in the summer of 2009.
Founded: 1895 – as Pine Villa FC
Sheridan enjoyed success during his time with the Spireites, leading Chesterfield to a promotion winning campaign up to League One in May 2011, along with a Football League Trophy win a year later. The 51-year-old left Chesterfield after in August 2012 after a poor start to the season, however he was back in management in January 2013 when he took over the vacancy at Plymouth Argyle. Sheridan spent just over two-years at Home Park, securing a Play-Off place in his final season. He left Devon by mutual consent in May last year. Newport County appointed him as their new manager at Rodney Parade back in October, but a return to Oldham was confirmed in the New Year.

Midfielder Liam Kelly is a man to watch for the Latics as his performances in midfield have caught the eye since his arrival at Boundary Park in 2014. The 26 year old began his career at MK Dons but failed to make an appearance at the Club, before moving north to Kilmarnock. It was at Rugby Park where he made his breakthrough, and he appeared 100 times for the Scottish outfit and scored 15 goals.
His form north of the border saw him attract the interest of Bristol City and he later moved to Ashton Gate in 2013. He spent only a season in Bristol though and teamed up with the Latics where he has enjoyed a fruitful spell.

Communitytrust Young student Matty Kell has been awarded a place at Edge Hill University following the successful completion of his Football Education Programme with Fleetwood Town. Matty will begin studying sports therapy from September, and is a prime example of the fantastic work being done by the Club’s Community Trust.
“The fact I’ve done well in my assignments over the past two years has meant I’ve managed to get a place at University which I’m delighted about.
The Football Education Programme is a level three academic programme that uses the sport of football as the hook to engage the learners.
“Edge Hill was my first choice and the fact it’s an unconditional offer is very pleasing too. I’m looking forward to starting in September.
Learners also have the opportunity to train in futsal for up to eight hours a week with the Community Trust’s coaches, under the direction of the Football League Trust. Matty said: “I’ve really enjoyed the course over the past two years as we’ve gone into a lot of detail in the units we’ve been doing such as anatomy, physiology, nutrition and fitness.
“I would definitely advise any student to take this course up because the opportunities are endless. I chose this course the day I found out about it.
YEARS OF TRANSFORMING GRASSROOTS FOOTBALL
The Community Trust are recruiting students to join the course which is based at the Club’s new training ground at Poolfoot Farm. For more information please call Matt Hilton on 07794 941021.
“The course helps in getting you ready for the real thing, be that University or going straight into the workplace, and I can’t stress that enough. “The working environment is very good and the training ground is unbelievable. To be able to learn and train in such surroundings is brilliant.

Last year’s event was a sell out with more than 250 riders – including former international trio Terry Butcher, Matt Holland and Luther Blissett, together with Preston North End boss Simon Grayson.
“Each rider has to raise a £1,000 so that’s our target, and so far I’ve raised £426 through family and friends and social media postings.
Wayne said: “I’m absolutely buzzing to
“I started training for the ride back in January and I’ve just got the bug now, I love it. It’d be great if the supporters of Fleetwood could get behind me. “The first part of the ride is meant to be the hardest as it’s 89 miles up the A12. I’m a truck driver so I know first hand that it’s hilly over those roads. “My boss’ Father passed away to Prostate Cancer so my company is fully behind me as it’s a charity close to their heart.” Courtney Bushell, Business Development Officer at the Club, added: “It’s fantastic that Wayne is representing us at this year’s London to Amsterdam bike ride for Prostate Cancer UK.
