StevenPressley › Good afternoon and welcome to Highbury Stadium for this weekend’s League One match against Burton Albion. I would like to extend my welcome to the staff, players, officials and supporters at Burton and wish you all a safe journey home after the game.
In reflection to Saturday’s performance, after only two days on the training ground, the players performed the defensive principles to good effect.
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has excelled as manager at Burton Albion leading them to the League Two trophy last season. They have continued that momentum this season and built on the success with a very good start and find themselves joint top of the division.
We must continue to improve on these aspects of the game because one clean sheet in 14 is not acceptable and as a group we all have to take a collective responsibility on improving on this matter.
Burton Albion have built this success on good fundamentals, they are well organised, hard-working and have a real togetherness within the group.
The attacking aspect of our game also must improve and we have worked hard this week on trying to balance the improvement on our defending along with the transition to attack. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the supporters for the warm welcome I received last weekend and I hope this can be the start of a successful relationship. I had the opportunity to meet a number of our supporters at the fans forum and I enjoyed the chance to give you an insight into what to expect from me as your manager. I also enjoyed listening to the supporters opinions on a number of matters. Enjoy the game today.

IntroducingBUrton Albion › Newly-promoted Burton Albion make the journey to Highbury Stadium this afternoon for a Sky Bet League One game against Fleetwood Town. The Brewers have made a positive start to their inaugural season in the third-tier, having won the League Two title last season, and currently reside in the second automatic promotion spot following last weekend’s defeat away at table-topping Walsall. Liam Kinsella opened the scoring for the Saddlers before the break, before in-form Welshman Tom Bradshaw’s penalty in stoppage time confirmed a 2-0 victory at the Banks’ Stadium. Manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has been in charge of the brewers for 11 months, having taken over from previous manager Gary Rowett who left for Championship side Birmingham City. The 43-year-old enjoyed a prolonged playing

career both in England and abroad, starting off his senior spell in the game with SC Telstar in 1990. Hasselbaink then moved to fellow Dutch side AZ Alkmaar, spending two-years with the club before a move to Portugal was next on the agenda. He signed for Campomaiorense in 1995, and scored 12 goals in 31 appearances in a solitary season, as he moved onto Boavista a year later, where he scored 20 times in the 1996-97 campaign. His impressive form caught the eye of English outfit Leeds United, who brought him to Elland Road for £2m in 1997. In 64 appearances during a two-year stay in Yorkshire, he netted 34 times and earned a move to Spain to link up with La Liga side Atletico Madrid in a £12m deal in August 1999. He netted 24 goals in one season for Atletico, and it was a return that would see Chelsea fork
out £15m for his prized signature in June 200. In four-years at Stamford Bridge, the forward enjoyed a fruitful stay in West London, notching 70 goals to his name in 136 appearances. After leaving Chelsea in 2004, he would remain in England for the remainder of his career, plying his trade with Middlesbrough and Charlton Athletic, before retiring at Cardiff City in 2008. A coaching spell followed at Nottingham Forest, which led to him taking up the managerial post at Royal Antwerp in May 2013. Hasselbaink returned to English shores in November, taking the Burton Albion job and bringing immediate success to the club with promotion.

Burton Albion 0-1 Fleetwood Town
Antoni Sarcevic’s second half free kick earned Fleetwood Town promotion to League One for the first time in the Club’s history at Wembley Stadium in May 2014. Sarcevic’s direct 30-yard free-kick flew straight past wrong-footed Brewers keeper Dean Lyness when under pressure from Town defender Nathan Pond. The Cod Army looked the most likely to score early on, with Lyness twice denying David Ball before Pond headed wide from one of the Cod Army’s many corners.
Burton began to press more after the break, and after long-range attempts from Lee Bell and Chris Hussey, Billy Kee should have done better when he fired over with just the keeper to beat. Sarcevic then fired wide at the other end before the Brewers came forward again, this time Robbie Weir shooting over from distance. But Town held on for a famous victory at the home of English football as their remarkable rise through the divisions continued.

Mclaughlin france bound after qualifyingtriumph › Fleetwood Town will have a representative at next summer’s European Championships as Conor McLaughlin’s Northern Ireland side secured their passage to France with a win over Greece at Windsor Park last week.
“It’s going to be a great experience for us all and fingers crossed I can just stay fit between now and then.
Michael O’Neill’s men finished top of Group F after picking up three points against the Greeks, before bringing an end to their unbelievable campaign with a point out in Finland on Sunday.
“We’ll obviously go there to enjoy ourselves as there’s not many people expecting us to go there and do well, but we want to make a name for ourselves especially after winning our group.”
Town’s right back has been a regular for the Green and White Army, and has put in a number of highly impressive displays as his country qualified for their first major tournament since 1986. With qualification sealed, he is now eager to replicate his international form for the Cod Army under new manager Steven Pressley, and has been impressed by the Scotsman so far.
“I was gutted not to have played the game but there was a few of us suspended and we were just happy to be there and take part in the celebrations. “Qualification will be massive for the grassroots in the country. We all knew the country had the potential to go to major tournaments.
In an exclusive interview with #codarmy, the Club’s official matchday programme, McLaughlin relives the famous win over Greece in Belfast.
“We are the first team to ever qualify for the European Championships, so for the youngsters to see the country doing so well will give them hope.
He said: “It’s an unbelievable feeling. We were all relieved that it didn’t go down to the final game as it could have been a bit nerve-wracking.
“After the Greece game we all knew we’d achieved something special but I don’t think it’ll sink if for a while for most of the players.
“The atmosphere at Windsor Park for the Greece game was the best atmosphere I’ve ever witnessed. The celebrations afterwards were great and the fans were bouncing.
“Somebody asked me when I was over in Helsinki for the Finland game which team I’d like to come up against, but whichever team we play they’re going to have unbelievable players.

McLaughlin’s focus now is to help Town move away from the Sky Bet League One relegation zone under new boss Pressley. “I had my first day’s training with the new manager on Tuesday. It was hard work and we were concentrating on our pressing game. “The tempo in training has been unbelievable and hopefully it will benefit us all as a squad in the long run this season. “We’ve got some tough games coming up but I think the more time the lads have with the manager, the more we’ll get used to how he wants to play. “Once he gets his points across over the next few weeks we’ll start to improve even more. Having watched the Coventry game back, there were a lot of positive to take from it.”

Sheron knows he needs toimpress › Youth team centre back Nathan Sheron has said that he is relishing the opportunity of being involved in the Cod Army’s development squad this campaign. Sheron joined Fleetwood’s Under 18’s in the close season, having left his boyhood club Liverpool in June. His limited game time persuaded him to switch the Anfield Club for the Fylde Coast, and he has so far made a good impact on the youth team. The 18 year old’s brief taste of life in the development squad has made him hungrier to become a regular under development squad boss Barry Nicholson. He said: “It’s been brilliant so far, I’ve really enjoyed it. It’s brought a lot out of me. It’s made me physically stronger, and it’s a great challenge. “The development squad is the next step up for all of us. I’ve got to play my own football, and show that I’m a good enough player. Hopefully I can try and impress the manager.” To get there, the player is keen to make improvements to his game though, and believes he is at the right club to do that. “I need to basically clean up on my mistakes in matches. I need to stay in the gym to keep getting stronger because it’s more physical.
There is a step up [from the youth team]. The game’s quicker, it’s more physical but I just have to keep working hard, putt the hours in in training and continue to improve.” Fleetwood’s Under 18’s made a blistering start to their league season with 10 points out of a possible 12, but Nathan Rooney’s side have had a difficult time as of late, having lost three of their last four, including a 1-0 loss to Preston North End last time out. Sheron admitted that complacency could be an issue, but has confidence in the make-up of the squad. “We got off to a really good start, but at the moment we’re getting into this mindset where we think we’re better than what we are. We are doing well though and are better than last season.
prize draw away to Premier League Sunderland. Sheron is hoping that they can replicate last season’s cup run this time around, but appreciates the Pools test will be challenging. “All the lads are excited for that. Personally I’ve never played [in the competition] so I don’t know what it’s like. “But all the lads have said it’s brilliant, because obviously we went on a decent run last year. “To be drawn away at Hartlepool should be a decent game, and one we’re all really looking forward to. “Obviously, we want to go as far as we can, and we all can’t wait. “If we get through the early rounds, the big teams then come in. We’d love a another draw away at someone big.”
“I’m more than confident. We’ve got a great set of lads. I think we can do very well this season.” Rooney’s youth team have been drawn away to Hartlepool United in the FA Youth Cup first round. Last year, the young Cod Army reached the third round for the first time ever, and were given a Print Partner
