› Good afternoon and welcome to today’s Sky Bet League One encounter against Darren Ferguson’s Doncaster Roves outfit. Although we didn’t play particularly well at Colchester on Tuesday evening, we got a point and I think it’ll be crucial for us in the end. I always believe though that we’re better than a point when going to places like Colchester, but it’s important that we didn’t lose the game. However when you do draw your away games, it’s vital that you win your home ones and we’ve been doing that in general. We’ve set really high standards of the players over the past few months, and although we didn’t really reach those standards we still showed a mentality to get a point.

The result kept our unbeaten run in 2016 going, and we’ll certainly be looking to maintain that at home where our performances have been good. The atmosphere amongst the supporters at Highbury has been very positive recently which has helped the players get the correct results. Two of our three games during this year have been away from home, and all in all when you play away from home a point isn’t a bad result. Doncaster are a very good side with a lot of good players. At the start of the season they would have been considered real title hopefuls. They had a difficult start but I think since Darren has come in the performances have been very good, and he is a manger who likes to play as we do. They’ve shown a lot of spirit and have scored a number of late goals, so it’s going to be real test for us but one that we’ll embrace. Enjoy the game,

Steven 2

Introducingdoncaster rovers › Doncaster Rovers are this afternoon’s visitors to Highbury Stadium for a Sky Bet League One encounter against Steven Pressley’s Fleetwood Town.

returned to Peterborough’s London Road for a second spell in January 2011.

Fresh from a narrow FA Cup exit at the hands of Premier League side Stoke City, Doncaster will be hoping to continue their form and are unbeaten in their last three league games.

During a prolonged stay at Molineux, Ferguson made 117 outings within the midfield of Wolves, finding the back of the net four times at the Black Country side.

Ferguson enjoyed further success upon his return to Cambridgeshire, and guided the Posh to PlayOff promotion to the second-tier in 2011, as well as a Johnstone’s Paint trophy triumph.

Ferguson’s five-years at Wolves came to an end in 1999, when he briefly ventured out to the Netherlands to sign for Sparta Rotterdam, only for him to return and sign for Welsh side Wrexham.

In February 2015, he left Peterborough for a second time but would subsequently replace Paul Dickov in the dugout at Doncaster’s Keepmoat Stadium.

Currently sitting in 12th within the standings of the third-tier, Doncaster have enjoyed an upturn in their fortunes following on from the appointment of Darren Ferguson as manager in October 2015. The son of former Manchester United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson, Darren began his playing career under the stewardship of his father at Old Trafford, making 27 appearances over a fouryear stay at the Red Devils before leaving to sign for Wolverhampton Wanderers for £250,000 in 1994.

He spent eight-years at the Racecourse Ground, featuring 310 times for the Dragons before departing the club to take up a player/manager role with Peterborough United in January 2007. The 43-year-old spent over two-seasons in his first stay at Peterborough, and led the club to two back-to-back promotions from League Two to the Championship in May 2009. Ferguson departed Posh in November 2009, and found work again shortly afterwards as he took over the vacant managerial position with Preston North End. He left North End in December 2010, but

Since his appointment, the Scot has overseen Doncaster go on a run of form which has seen just two defeats in eleven matches.

Fleetwood Town 3-1 Doncaster Rovers Saturday 18th October 2014 - Highbury Stadium

The lead was retaken again before half time though, as Ball turned provider once more for McAlinden to finish from close range.

Goals from Stephen Dobbie, Liam McAlinden and David Ball were enough to beat Doncaster Rovers at Highbury last season. The Cod Army got off to the perfect start when Dobbie struck after just 10 minutes as he converted Ball’s cross from inside the area. Former Town player Nathan Tyson levelled soon after though as his long range effort took a wicked deflection and caught out keeper Chris Maxwell.

And Ball, who had been superb all game, got his rewards with a quarter of an hour to play, as he expertly back heeled McAlinden’s cross past Jed Steer.

› Trust run football sessions for girls aged between 8-12 Fleetwood Town’s Community Trust have started running football sessions for local girls aged between 8-12.

The young children, aged between three and four, took part in activities to help improve coordination and balance.

The first session took take place on Monday 11th January 2016 from 5-6pm at Milton Street astroturf in Fleetwood.

It was the first in a number of visits lined up during the month of January, with three other nurseries set to visit the home of the Cod Army.

The sessions cost just £1 and run every Monday for girls wishing to participate in football and improve their skills.

Jason Sharp, Sports Development Officer, said: “It was based at three to four year olds to improve their coordination, agility and balance skills.

Led by FA qualified coaches who have fully enhanced DBS checks, the sessions are a fantastic way for girls to get into the game. For more information please call Jason Sharp 07834 581414.

“They then met Captain Cod and were taken around the ground to see the changing rooms and the dugout area, and they all received a goody bag too.

Davis: I just want to concentrate on myfootball › New signing Joe Davis admits he just wants to concentrate on his football after recently penning a deal with Steven Pressley’s Town side. The centre half joined the Club from Premier League high-flyers Leicester City, and is eager to continue his run in the Cod Army side after enjoying a loan spell on the Fylde Coast. He has formed an impressive partnership with captain Nathan Pond in recent weeks, and looks set to keep his place in the side during the second half of the season. Davis became the second signing of the window for Fleetwood, after striker David Henen extended his loan stay from Everton until the end of the season. Speaking exclusively to #codarmy, the Club’s official matchday programme, Davis stated that he always wanted to stay at Highbury. He said: “I’m delighted that it’s all been done now and I can concentrate on my football. I’m looking forward to my time here and I just want to do well. “I stated from the start that I’d be really interested in staying with the Club, and I’m just over the moon to be here now. “I feel like I’ve fitted into the team really well and the system we’ve been playing suits me. It 8

was a no brainer for me to come back and slot straight in. “The staff and the coaches here are really good and the training sessions are very enjoyable. I’ve learnt a lot from them since I’ve been here. “I’ve come on as a player over the past few months and hopefully I can continue to improve and just do as well as I possibly can. “You only just need to look at the training ground to see how big the club could possibly be. If we can keep progressing then we’ll go a long way. “I’ve spoken to my Dad and he’s really happy. He knows it’s the right club for me and wishes me all the best. I want to make him proud. “Individually in the short term I want to play as many games as I can and put in some good performances, and then as a team I hope we lift ourselves up the table.” And manager Pressley was equally pleased with the move, and insisted Davis could really progress as a player under his stewardship. “I’m really pleased with the signing. He’s really

impressed me since coming to the Club as his attitude and level of professionalism are great. “He’s only young at 21 and has got a lot of development in him. In the eight weeks or so I’ve worked with him I’ve seen really good progress. “The one thing about him is that he really wants to progress and his level of performances for us so far have been really high. “During his time on loan he fitted in very well with everyone. He’s the right fit for this football club and wants to progress here.”

Baines has eyes set on the developmentsquad › Fleetwood Town youth team defender Lewis Baines has been a regular in Nathan Rooney’s starting side this season. It has been quite a 12 months for the 17-yearold full-back, who signed a youth team contract with the Club in February, and made the step up to the U18s towards the back end of last season. Stepping up an age group to play competitive matches in the North West Youth Alliance proved to be the stepping stone that Baines needed to adjust to life in Rooney’s set-up. The early signs are good, and since September Baines has earned a starting place in every league encounter as well as the two FA Youth Cup games, and has put commendable performances in throughout. Currently in the first-year of his youth team

programme, which also runs in partnership with Blackpool and Fylde College, Baines reflected on his first year in the youth side.

“I want to try and cement myself in my own position instead of being at left-back. I am a versatile player who wants to succeed.

He also discussed his hopes for the rest of this season and plans for the future with a long-term aim of getting in the development squad.

“In the short-run, I’d like to at least train with the development squad, as a few of my teammates have done recently and have said it has been beneficial to their game.

Baines said: “We live away from home so at first it was hard meeting new people and settling in was quite difficult. “Once I started to settle into my surroundings I got myself into the team in September, and have kept myself in the side ever since. “My aim is to hopefully push on and get into the development squad, but when all the second

“Hopefully I can have another good year next year and try for the captaincy in the secondyear.” The defender reserved special praise for manager Nathan Rooney, who has transformed the fortunes of Fleetwood Town’s youth team who sit in the higher reaches of the table. He continued: “Nathan is a good coach, and since he has come in the feel of the youth setup has changed a lot since last season. “He cares and interacts with us on a daily basis, and goes that extra mile to help and improve us as players. “I think that him and Stuart Murdoch have done well together as a team, so we are moving in the right direction.”
