› Good afternoon to all supporters and welcome back to Highbury Stadium for today’s Sky Bet League One game against Scunthorpe United. The Iron are certainly a rejuvenated side and as a club have invested heavily in their playing squad. They seem to be playing at a good level at this moment in time. They have a real ambition as a club to gain promotion so it’ll obviously be a stern test, but as I’ve said in the past we have a fear for nobody as a team. At home we’re a very difficult side to beat and have a very good record, so off the back of a decent point at Port Vale we’ll come into the game in confident mood. We’ve looked very solid as of late and have kept a number of clean sheets. We certainly need to be more ruthless at the top end of the pitch though. I hope that the acquisition of Shola Ameobi can provide good

leadership and good direction to our younger players as we have a number of them here. When you sign players you don’t just sign them purely on their technical ability, you also look into their character as well and in Shola we have a terrific character. He’s a player who’s hugely respected in the game and he brings with him a positive attitude and a voice to the dressing room. That for me was very important because we’ve been very reliant on our younger players this year. These young lads need help from experienced professionals. Shola certainly falls into that category, and obviously Bob Harris coming in as well will provide further competition to the group too. Our problem has been that we’re a very difficult team to beat but we’ve had far too many draws and have to turn them into wins. What it tells me is that we’re very close and I believe with a greater degree of ruthlessness in the forward area we can become a very good team. I hope you all enjoy the game,

IntroducingScunthorpe United › Scunthorpe United are the latest visitors to Highbury Stadium for today’s Sky Bet League One encounter against Fleetwood Town. The Iron make the journey across from Lincolnshire having turned a corner in recent weeks, collecting three victories on the spin in a run of form which has lifted them to 13th within the standings of the third-tier. Following the fine run of form, which included their most recent win on Saturday afternoon against Southend United, the Glanford Park outfit will have one eye on the Play-Offs should they be able to continue their positive form. An 11th minute strike from top-scorer Paddy Madden was enough to earn Scunny another valuable maximum against the men from Essex, so confidence his high prior to their trip to the Fylde Coast to play Steven Pressley’s side. and Andy Dawson, the pair have overseen a 100% record during their time in temporary charge, winning three of their three games following the departure of Mark Robins back in January. Robins left Scunthorpe after a defeat at Blackpool, and with no permanent manager yet to be appointed, the duo of Daws and Dawson will be hoping to continue in their role for as long as possible. Born in Salford, Daws began his footballing education with Flixton before he moved onto Altrincham in 1988. The midfielder spent four-years at Moss Lane, making 189 appearances at non-league level, and signed for Bury in August 1992 in what would prove to be a fruitful stay at Gigg Lane. Daws spent a further nine-years with the Shakers, making 435 club appearances for the Greater Manchester club and scoring on 23 occasions.

FactFile At the start of the 2001/02 campaign, Daws swapped the North West in favour of a move over the Pennines where he would see out his playing days. Loan spells at Grimsby followed before the 45-year-old moved into coaching, firstly at Rotherham then at Queens Park Rangers, before moving on to his current club in October 2014. Daws’ fellow caretaker Dawson was a member of the youth team at Nottingham Forest, turning professional at the City Ground in 1997. As a youngster, the defender didn’t make the breakthrough whilst in the East Midlands, but moved to Scunthorpe, initially on loan in 1998, and made the move permanent shortly after. Hull City moved for Dawson’s services in May 2003, and he made 293 appearances over a decade for the Tigers, helping them through the football pyramid to the top-flight.

Name: Scunthorpe United Founded: 1899 Manager: Vacant Stadium: Glanford Park Capacity: 9,088 Last season: 16th in League One

After leaving the KC Stadium in 2013, the 37-year-old returned to Scunthorpe as a player and has previously been in the dugout before.

Scunthopre United 0-2 Fleetwood Town Tuesday 19th August 2014 - Glanford Park Two goals inside ten second half minutes meant the Cod Army picked up an impressive win in Lincolnshire at the start of the 2014/15 season. Jamie Proctor scored his third goal in three games on 70 minutes as he connected with a cross from the left at the back post.

Midfielder Gareth Evans then doubled the advantage late on as he superbly met Stephen Crainey’s cross to head home unmarked. Scunthorpe did come close to a consolation late on but Niall Canavan’s header struck the woodwork. The win maintained Town’s impressive start to the campaign, having picked up victories against Crewe Alexandra and Notts County previously.

Ameobi praises Andy Pilley & StevenPressley › Shola Ameobi praised both Andy Pilley and Steven Pressley’s energy and enthusiasm and admitted they played a big part in him joining the Cod Army. The former Premier League striker joined Town last week after leaving Bolton Wanderers in January, and made his debut for the Club against Port Vale seven days ago.

In an exclusive interview with #codarmy, the Club’s official matchday programme, Ameobi expressed his desire to succeed on the Fylde Coast.

Ameobi brings with him a wealth of experience having spent the majority of his career in the Barclays Premier League with Newcastle United.

He said: “Being at Fleetwood is something that really excites me. I spoke to the owner last week and jumped in the car to come and meet him and the manager.

He is now hoping to score the goals that will fire Pressley’s men away from the Sky Bet League One relegation places.

“I was so impressed with the energy and the enthusiasm that they have for the Club, and that’s very important if you’re trying to build something. “That is clearly happening here and I bought into it straight away. I’d made my decision to sign here pretty quickly after speaking to them both. “What attracted me was the characters because that’s what makes football

clubs. There’s really good people here and it obviously starts with the owner. “It’s nothing short of remarkable what has happened at this Club over the past decade or so, and I was just excited to be apart of that. “As a striker you’re brought in to score goals but I’m also here to help the younger players, and that’s something I take very seriously. “Developing young talent is something I’ve always done throughout my career, and I’m eager to guide the younger players on both on the pitch and at the training ground.” Ameobi netted a total of 72 goals whilst representing the Toon Army, and became a fans favourite whilst at St James’ Park. “Newcastle are my hometown club so I was living my dream when I played for them. It’s something I cherish and they will always be a part of me. “We had some great times and also some tough times but that’s expected at every club. I experienced every emotion possible whilst I was there. “The ups and the downs ultimately make the experience an amazing one, but playing for

Newcastle United is something I’m very, very proud of. “Getting into Europe and qualifying for the Champions League so young in my career was such an unbelievable experience for me.

“That’s what makes it special though as you know those people want the bragging rights, and you feel that when you’re out there playing.

“Scoring at the Nou Camp for instance is something as a boy you just dream about, so to be able to achieve that was very special.

“When game day actually comes that’s when you have to get yourself calm and make sure you’re not overhyped. Usually the team with the coolest head normally wins the game.

“Playing in the derby games against Sunderland as a Newcastle fan is obviously the ultimate one, and being able to contribute in terms of the goals that I scored.

“As a young kid I just wanted to play but as you get that little bit more experienced you realise you can’t attack a game like that like a fan.

“I will never forget those moments as a Newcastle United fan first and foremost, and then of course as a player, so I’ve been lucky enough to play in some big games.”

“It’s always there bubbling away but you have to have a cool head. What made it special was the balance between wanting it so much and making sure you were ready mentally.”

His record in the Tyne and Wear derby is impressive having scored some important goals for the Black and Whites in fierce fixtures against the Black Cats. “The derby against Sunderland grips the Town for three or four weeks before the actual game, and that’s what everyone is talking about. “With the cities being so close to each other invariably you’re going to have people in the same working environment supporting both sets of clubs.

Nelson believes youth team can still win theleague › Youth team right back Wes Nelson believes his team have the capability to win the North West Youth Alliance title this season. Nathan Rooney’s side picked up a valuable three points at home to Carlisle United recently, which leaves them nine points off table topping Wigan, with two games in hand of the leading pack. Despite the points deficit, Nelson is confident in the squad’s ability to climb the league table again in the coming weeks. “This team can go all the way this season,” he said. “The coaches and a few of the other lads still believe we can go and win the league. I think we should get maybe first, second or third. We’re aiming high.” With a number of postponements in previous weeks, the youth team still have plenty of

games to play, and although not ideal, the 18 year old wants to get on with it. “We’d obviously like the points on the board. We don’t really want games in hand. But we need to play those games, and hopefully get three points in each of them, and get as high as we can in the table.” Nelson himself is now getting regular game time in the under 18’s, and has established himself as the first choice in his position. He started his career at his boyhood club Liverpool, but like teammate Nathan Sheron swapped Merseyside for the Fylde Coast. Now into his second year at Fleetwood, he is

relishing playing week in week out but admits competition for places is higher than ever.

few more years here. That’s the dream!”

“I didn’t really play much last year. I didn’t really have the self-confidence but as this year’s gone on, I’ve got more confident and got some good game time [under my belt]. “It’s great playing most games, but it doesn’t mean I’m always going to be in the team. I need to keep playing well and training hard. “The squad’s a lot better than last year. There’s big competition. There’s a few first years playing over second years, so no-one’s place is safe. You just need to keep at it to stay in.” First team boss Steven Pressley has not been afraid to give youth a chance in his time at the club, which Nelson says gives him belief that he can make it. “It does [give you belief]. It’s nice to see the gaffer giving us lads a chance. He likes young players which gives people like me a chance to move up and play with the under 21s and then the first team. “I’m very happy to be at this Club. Hopefully I’m going to get a professional contract and stay for a Print Partner
