The blazing sunlight streams down the clear blue waters in cascading bars and seems to converge into one single SRLQW 2XU H\HV VFDQ NHHQO\ WR WKH GHSWKV in anticipation. Nothing. We gently slip further down. The gauge registers about 30 meters and then suddenly out of no where a large shape looms beneath us. Thailand Biggest waves happen in April to November. Normally the swell is the result of the S.W., monsoon blowing like hell for 3 - 4 days. When the wind drops, the sea glasses off and you get 1 - 2 mtr (max) waves for a couple of days.You can get a ground swell as the fetch around the Andaman sea is just too small. If there's a typhoon situated up in the Bay of Bengal and it's far enough away so it doesn't affect Phuket's weather then there can be some nice clean waves, but that's a fairly rear occurrence. The best breaks are Kalim Reef (righthander) and Karon Beach which is best surfed close to high tide. I remember reading an article in a magazine a few years ago which mentioned the biggest waves along Thailands west coast can be found at an Island called Koh Kradan. It's situated down near Trang and it sits out in deep water.

Although the tools used in the building of dhonis have changed, little has changed of its basic design. As in the past, most of the boats are still being built without a documented plan in the islands unlike at established boat yards. The design and symmetry of the boat emerges as the boat is being built. Imported hardwoods are used in the place of coconut wood, which was used in place of coconut wood, which was used in the past to make the hull. Copper rivets are used to hold the planks together instead of coir, which was used for the purpose even half a century ago. The square sail made of coconut fronds gave way to a triangular lateen sail. Even though this is still considered essential and is carried on board, it is used only during emergencies or to ease the strain of the engines. Almost all Dhonis are driven by diesel power.

The descend seems to be eternal. Ten meters. Twenty meters. In an ocean so ethereally blue, the visibility must be XQGRXEWHGO\ OLPLWOHVV <HW WKH Ă&#x17E;VK DUH LQ the hiding; for except for countless Yellow %DFN )XVLOLHUV DQG /RQJ )LQ %DQQHUĂ&#x17E;VK WKH ocean feels vast and abandoned. This is unusual; for in other dives we have seen large schools of Great Barracuda, Trevally, Tuna, very large Potato Cods, Panther Torpedo Rays and Sea Snakes very often. But not today. The blazing sunlight streams down the clear blue waters in cascading bars and seems to converge into one single point. Our eyes scan keenly to the depths in anticipation. Nothing. We gently slip further down. The gauge registers about 30 meters and then suddenly out of no where a large shape looms beneath us. At Ă&#x17E;UVW JODQFH RQH LV IRUJLYHQ IRU WKLQNLQJ WKDW this is a large rock. But this is not. This is WKH + 0 6 +HUPHV 7KH ZRUOGV Ă&#x17E;UVW SXUSRVH built Air Craft Carrier; built by ArmstrongWhitworths in January 1918; launched September 11, 1919; commissioned by the British Royal Navy 1923 and sunk by the Japanese in April 9th 1942. At a depth of 42 meters, amidst a gentle current, we let go of the anchor rope and unreel our way 60 years back into history.

BRITISH FLEET AUXILIARY TANKER SEYCHELLES

There are several well encrusted wrecks such as the famous wreck of the Ennerdale, an enormous British Fleet Auxiliary tanker of 62,000 tons, she measured 710ft in length, 98ft in breadth and 40ft in draught. She was powered by Babcock and Wilcox diesels and had a complement of 51 men. Formerly the 09 1DHVV 6FRWVPDQ (QQHUGDOH KDG WKH shortest career of the three (there were 2 other auxilary vessels). On 1st June 1970 she struck uncharted rocks. As salvage was not possible Ennerdale's wreck was destroyed by explosives. These explosives â&#x20AC;&#x201C; including anti submarine mortar bombs and torpedo warheads - were placed by Wessex helicopters as strong currents made it impossible for divers to lay the explosives. the wreck is now home to Giant Groupers, Giant Moray Eels, Scorpion Fish, Eagle Rays, Lion Fish, Schools with thousands of fusiliers, Jacks, Barracudas and a number of Sharks.

Biggest waves happen in April to November. Normally the swell is the result of the S.W., monsoon blowing like hell for 3 - 4 days. When the wind drops, the sea glasses off and you get 1 - 2 mtr (max) waves for a couple of days.You can get a ground swell as the fetch around the Andaman sea is just too small. If there's a typhoon situated up in the Bay of Bengal and it's far enough away so it doesn't affect Phuket's weather then there can be some nice clean waves, but that's a fairly rear occurrence. The best breaks are Kalim Reef (righthander) and Karon Beach which is best surfed close to high tide. I remember reading an article in a magazine a few years ago which mentioned the biggest waves along Thailands west coast can be found at an Island called Koh Kradan. It's situated down near Trang and it sits out in deep water.

THE NAUTILUS STORY

When great minds come together and dive into the depths of their imagination, they create ideas. They then voyage into those ideas until their dreams are more than just thoughts. They build upon those dreams and create castles and cathedrals. +HUHoV WKH VWRU\ RI KRZ RQH RI WKH Ă&#x17E;QHVW Liveaboards crafted by Maldivians, sailed through some of the roughest tides of time. In the early years of 1990s, [Wahid â&#x20AC;&#x201C; replace with full name] was a captain*, ZRUNLQJ IRU RQH RI WKH Ă&#x17E;UVW /LYHDERDUG operators in Maldives. He had always GUHDPW RI EXLOGLQJ KLV RZQ ERDW $W Ă&#x17E;UVW it was just an idea. However as the years passed on, his idea became something of a passion.

Wahid shared his idea with an Austrian man, [Eloise â&#x20AC;&#x201C; replace with full name]. They realized that they both shared the same dream, and Eloise who had met Wahid as a tourist, became one of his most trusted friends. Years went by with their dream left untouched, until in 1997 they decided to move forward and registered their company under the name of Nautico. With their combined knowledge they drew XS WKH SODQV IRU WKHLU Ă&#x17E;UVW ERDW WKH QRZ famous Nautilus 1. By 1998 all preparations had been made, and Wahid and Eloise began to build their boat on Hanimaadhoo Island. â&#x20AC;&#x153;Nautilus 1 was built with our own hands. Its plans were drawn and designed by us. The only other people working on it were carpenters,â&#x20AC;? Wahid explained. Surprisingly enough, in less than a year the boat was ready for its maiden voyage. Wahid took on the task of maintaining and operating the boat while Eloise began to market the boat and send in tourists from Austria. Nautilus 1 has a capacity of 14 pax and a length of 30 meters.
