Tips for an Easier Camping Trip •

• Camping is a fun way to spend time together as a family, but it can be a lot of work, taking away from well-deserved time off. The amount of stuff taken with you, plus the amount of time that takes to prepare, can be overwhelming – but it doesn’t have to be. Here are a few ways to make your family’s camping trip a little more stress-free:

Plan a shorter, close-to-home trip. You don’t need to go far away to feel like you’re away. Less driving, plus a shorter trip, equals less travel time, and less items to pack and bring with you. Leave the toys & gear at home. Part of the fun of camping is getting outside and playing; you don’t need toys or games to go for a hike, swim or scavenger hunt. Pack dual-purpose items. Pack oranges for your breakfast, then keep the skins and use them for bowls, cooking food inside them on the campfire. Less dishes = less clean-up.

Every man, woman & child for themselves. Each family member grabs a bag and packs clothing, a towel and a toothbrush, plus a plate, cup and cutlery and voila, everyone’s ready to go! Stop worrying. It’s okay if your son forgot his toothbrush or your significant other packed one pair of shorts, after all, you’re camping.

Did you know Swedish Bitters are a natural remedy for insect bites. Bring a bottle on your next outdoor excursion and apply directly to the affected area.

Berrylicious Popsicles Place all the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Divide the mixture evenly among your Popsicle molds. Freeze until frozen, then enjoy.

Makes 6 popsicles

Stress Relieving Yoga Poses You Can Do Anywhere One of the best things about yoga is that anyone can do it, anywhere, anytime. Whether you’re at home in your living room, or camping at a National Park – you can get up in the morning and start your day with yoga. Try some of our favourite stress-relieving yoga poses one morning this month, no matter where you wake up. If you’ve never done yoga before, consider joining a class to learn all it has to offer. Lotus – Place one foot on top of the opposite thigh with sole facing upward and heel close to your abdomen. Then place your other foot on your opposite thigh in a symmetrical way. This position calms your mind and relaxes you.

Tree Pose – This pose requires balance and concentration. Try to hold this pose for a minute or two and then switch to the other leg. If you have difficulty with balance you can modify the tree pose by holding onto a nearby tree or friend, or just keep both feet on the ground and rest one foot on the other inside ankle. “Like” our

Downward Dog – This yoga pose opens up the back of the body and is very energizing, making it a great pose for the start of your day.

Yoga tip Alternate nostril breathing; place your thumb over one nostril and slowly inhale, let go and slowly exhale out of the other nostril - alternate nostrils and repeat until relaxed.

Learn to Un-Plug While on Vacation We are so plugged into technology these days that most people go to bed with their phones. It can seem like an impossible task to un-plug for an evening, let alone an entire vacation, but it is necessary for us to take time off to recharge. Taking a technology break will enable you to go back to work feeling refreshed. To make the most of your vacation, turn your phone off. Yup, you read that right, just turn it off. If you absolutely must check your messages, allocate a set time when you will do this. Dedicate an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening to do this. Once this time is over, turn your phone off again. Setting these guidelines will enable you to enjoy your vacation, while addressing anything urgent that can’t wait until you return.

Having trouble shutting off your brain? Try the herbal sleep aid Valerian. It works as a natural sedative to relieve nervousness for a better, deeper, restful sleep.
