FLOR AMAZONA & FACEHUNTER TAKE ON THE COLOMBIAN PACIFIC

In a bid to break tiring clichés surrounding Colombia, Ana Maria Sarmiento, founder and head designer of FLOR AMAZONA, and Proexport have teamed up with internationally acclaimed photographer and blogger Yvan Rodic, AKA, Facehunter to show the world the real Colombia. The venture, taking place from the 21st - 29th April will produce a series of videos and photography revealing the beauty and soul of Colombia’s pacific, meeting the indigenous tribes behind some of FLOR AMAZONA’s designs to the people leading the Colombian fashion scene.

FLOR AMAZONA’s unique blend of traditional ! Colombian jewelry pieces, infused with chic contemporary elements, brings Latin glamour to the world. Ana Maria Sarmiento founder finds her inspiration from the Amazon rainforest, shamanic belief, Colombia, the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, beaches, deserts, her adventures and most of all women from all around the world.

With eyes fixed firmly on South America this year and with an ever-increasing influx of foreign brands entering Colombia, Ana Maria feels it’s the perfect time to introduce the world to true Colombian beauty, talent, fashion and culture. Through their project, Ana Maria and Yvan hope to change people’s perceptions of Colombia. “Up until recently the word ‘Colombia’ was heavily linked to the word ‘drugs’, but this doesn’t define Colombia, Colombia is much more than this. It is a megadiverse country of contrast, offering inspiration at every turn – We have culture, rainforest, oceans, volcanoes, exotic animals, beautiful flora and beautiful women!

FLOR AMAZONA has taken this inspiration to create one-of-a-kind pieces of jewelry that are steeped in Colombian culture and history. With ever-increasing levels of globalization, Ana Maria believes it is important to support ones roots. She works closely with the indigenous Kamcha, Embera and Wayuu communities to re-work traditional handcraft that shows the world truly unique Colombian design. In turn, Ana Maria has set up the ‘Wear A Smile’ project to give back to the country and people that inspires her through providing support and funding.

Yvan Rodic, better known in the fashion world as Facehunter, started his career as a copywriter for Leo Burnett and Saatchi in Geneva, Brussels and Paris. With a natural eye for photography, he soon started snapping pictures of people at events and ! on the street and in 2006 he began posting the results online - Facehunter was born. He is now considered as one of the most influential bloggers in the industry.

Beyond his leading role in the world of street style photography and working for glossy fashion magazines such as GQ and VOGUE, Swiss-born Yvan has rich experience in travelling the world and discovering new places. He firmly believes that; “style is not just a monopoly of big fashion capitals. It’s something that can be found worldwide”.

FLOR AMAZONA and Facehunter, supported by Proexport, will travel together throughout Colombia’s Pacific. The journey begins in Nuqui and Bahia Solano, which will see them meet with indigenous communities and witness FLOR AMAZONA’s jewelry design process. Next stop is Medellin, the city of eternal spring, where a press event will be held on 22nd April. To finish this amazing journey Yvan and Ana will visit FLOR AMAZONA’s birth town, Bogotá, on the 29th April with a press day to share his experiences in Colombia and a trunk show where you can meet Ana Maria, Facehunter and shop! !
