URBAN RIPPLE
Creating New Growth-pole for Spreading Happiness throughout
Moscow
Tverskaya Street may be known for its prestigious shops; but not for the “street” itself. People come and go as they are just passing by. They prefer spending time inside the building to enjoying the street. It makes the street’s outdoor area lacking of activities. The only comfortable places for people to get in touch with the surrounding are the plazas. However, it does not adequate to enhance and liven up the whole street. Actually, the 1,51 km-length street comes up with possibility in creating new growth poles of activities. It starts by altering the street from vehicle-oriented into pedestrianoriented. The reduction of vehicle-lanes into 4-lanes width will enlarge the pedestrian area for the “activity pockets”. And the shared surface along it will create a new experience for pedestrian and vehicle. This that could break the mundane ambiance along it. Once the pocket activity determined, the growth pole is created. Thus the pockets replication along the street will give rippling effect activities that will liven up the whole street as we called it “Urban Ripple”

SUNFLOWER ECO-ARCADE Competition: Asian International of Low Carbon Design, International Workshop, 2015 “Re-design Kurosaki Low Carbon High Rise City” Award: First Winner Location: Kurosaki, Japan Team Members: Ahmad F. Omari; Chen Ziqi; Le Thi Thuy Linh; Mutembei Kariuki; Nguyen Duc Loi; Pan Dongxu; Peng Yu Chen; Wang Yun; Wu Yiqun; Zhu Xinyue
A vibrant centre of culture, history, business and modern day sustainable living. The re-designing of Kurosaki area is inspired by nature. This is based on the way the Sunflower, which is the symbol of the city, always follows the natural energy of nature through facing the Sun through the day. Our site in Kurosaki is chosen to return the city to its fame as part of the ancient Edo Nagasaki streets, of which Kurosaki is the most famous. Thus, connecting with the rich cultural heritage from it’s past as Japan’s connection to the rest of the world. This is also the focus of sustaining a vibrant economy in the future and connecting the city to international commerce for business and culture.

Pasar Proyek is a local market in Bekasi and it was a city center in Colonial Era. Dutch Colonial built a market next to river in 1746. Pasar Proyek was a vibrant area. There were many shophouses built in this era. The shophouses’ design were unique. It was an acculturate between Chinese and Art Deco architecture style. Yet today, it is covered by ton of advertising panels.
