Critical Writing– Is This For a Grade?

Description: Are you tired of your

Description: Frequent Small Group Purposeful Talk-Are your students tracking time or staving off boredom? Do you want your students to take ownership of the learning? Using the strategies of Frequent, Small-Group, Purposeful Talk About the Learning makes a significant positive impact on student retention. This is a new spin on an old tool that will change your classroom and drive up student achievement. The use of purposeful, planned, and focused micro discussions, lasting between 30 seconds and 3 minutes, is the key. Don’t miss this opportunity to master the skills to increase rigor and student performance at the same time!

students asking, “ Is this for a grade? Using the tools of Critical Writing helps students understand that writing is a process that solidifies learning and not just a way for teachers to collect grades. Critical Writing is about quality of thought, not quantity of writing. Research shows that putting your thoughts on paper dramatically improves student performance because it allows students to own their thoughts. Participants in this session will leave with ideas and strategies that take minimal class time and will help teachers be sure that students learned the objective for the day. Writing in any form is an important tool for learning ideas deeply and permanently. Come see how to make it happen in your room!

Session 2

Reflecting on Student Work

Description: Students are asked to

perform tasks at school to demonstrate learning. How do you determine the degree a student has accomplished the objective for each lesson? This session will examine strategies for colleagues to use structures, criteria, rubrics, and guidelines for looking at and talking about student work with colleagues and individual students.

What YOU DO Matters ! Developing Students Character

Frame the Lesson– What are We Doing Today?

Description: Do you want to gain your students attention? Are you tired of students asking, “What are we doing today”? Lesson Frames set the path by clearly communicating the days objectives. The Lesson Frames sets the path with a “We will” and an “I will” statement for the day. The “We will” tells where we are going and the “ I will” tells if the learner has arrived. Lesson Frames help students make connections between what they should be learning and the task they have been assigned. Participants in this session will learn how to effectively write Lesson Frames for the daily lessons that will increase student understanding. Want to see your student’s comprehension soar? Then this session is a must for you!

Session 15 The Impact that Hope, Engagement and Well-Being Play Toward Student and School Success

Description: This session looks at best practices for school-based interventions and empirically supported solutions for change. You will leave this session equipped with the understanding, insight and interventions necessary to drive positive change in your students' hope, engagement, and wellbeing -- and to help students be ready for the future. Attendees will learn why some students make good things happen and bounce back from setbacks? Why do they lead happier, healthier, more productive lives? It’s because they have hope—not because of luck, intelligence, popularity or money. So, what exactly is hope and how can we measure it and how can all students get it, too? Also, this session gives examples on how teachers can spread hope throughout the school. Finally, this session will examine well-being indicators that make students more academically successful?
