SPRING & SUMMER STAFF DEVELOPMENT 2014-2015
Floresville Independent School District
At FISD, we are committed to providing meaningful and on-going professional development to all staff. As one of the FISD board’s core beliefs states, “teachers are our most critical asset,” and the Curriculum and Instruction Department has worked diligently at developing a structured and systematic staff development plan. At the center of this plan are our teachers. Based on the feedback that staff provided through district and campus based surveys, we have sought to provide each of you with the most current, research-based approaches to helping you deliver innovative and rigorous instruction. This Spring & Summer Staff Development catalog is full of targeted professional development opportunities that focus on the requests staff have shared with us. As you review the Spring & Summer Staff Development Catalog, you will notice offerings that are available within the district and at off -site locations. You will also find that we have offerings available for a wide variety of content areas, grade levels, and for providing the most effective instruction for some of our special populations. The professional development opportunities compiled in this catalog represent our commitment to our teachers, students and our community. We hope that you will find many opportunities for personal growth enclosed in these pages. Meet with your campus principals to secure your attendance at any of these offerings. Thank you for your continued dedication and for all that you do for our students. FISD Curriculum Department, Clay Rosenbaum Sara Mann Monica Villarreal

Elementary Curriculum Register in Eduphoria Phonics and Foldables! July 9, 2015 Time: 8:30am-11:30am / 12:30pm-3:30pm Central Office Seminar Room When teachers are initially trained prior to their professional career, they are given little instruction in how to teach basic literacy skills, especially phonics, to beginning and struggling readers. This leaves a lot of students without the basic skills they need to succeed in education - especially students with processing issues, special needs, and English language learners (about 30% of all students). The impact of training will help unlock every teacher’s potential to achieve greater success in the classroom. Then, incorporate foldables to fit your phonics instruction! Learn how to do simple, fun and hands-on foldables to achieve the best success for students to take short term memory into long term memory. Finally, learn more foldables to use across the curriculum using kinesthetic ways to engage your student’s learning. Phonics and Foldables!
