letter from the

Winter 2013

PRESIDENT The recent weather in South Florida has been about as close to perfect as anyone could wish for, with week after week of mild temperatures, blue skies and light winds. Several days in

January neared record highs well into the 80’s, which got boats off the lifts and enticed many snowbirds to break away on spontaneous trips to Florida to absorb the sun’s revitalizing warmth. On the reverse side of the weather map, northern and mid-western climes have seen near record cold, extensive snowfall and blizzard-like conditions, proving once again that America is truly a land of extremes.

The good news for FPC members is the Miami International Boat Show provides that perfect escape to paradise, and we’re here to host you in every way possible! We’re on-site during the entire show at our booth location, C102 on the Convention Center, and we are once again rolling out the red carpet to host our annual Miami Boat Show Bash in South Beach. Immediately following the Miami Boat Show, more than 70 powerboat teams will join us for the 18th Annual Miami Boat Show Poker Run to the Florida Keys. What a great way to put a STOP to those mid-winter blues. Next month, we kick off the Spring 2013 schedule with another great poker run venue on Florida’s Southwest gulf coast, returning to Fort Myers Beach after a couple years off. What attracted us most was the completion of the new floating dock marina at the Pink Shell

Resort on Estero Island in Fort Myers Beach. This provides a Spring Break boating adventure and takes the edge off the long, cold winter for many. Soon after, in mid-April, we’ll return to the lavish Renaissance Vinoy Resor t in St. STU Petersburg, for the 4th Annual, Tampa Bay Poker Run, which offers a similar program to last year’s event, with a change in venue for the lunch stop with a visit to the Tarpon Pointe Grille, a popular new boating hotspot on Bradenton’s scenic waterfront. With so many club members trailering home for the summer months, the Jacksonville Poker Run is a perfect situation for members in the Southern States, and for anyone leaving the Sunshine State at the end of May. Located at the intersection of I-10 and I-95, participants can Rollon-the-river for two days of boating fun, and then roll-on-home for their summer boating season. The four events, February through May, provide the perfect mix of scenic boating adventure and exciting nightlife in Florida’s top travel destinations. One thing will be apparent to all attendees on FPC events going forward, is a much more aggressive stance on safety management, accident prevention and the presence of new emergency response measures. These improvements to poker run safety were long overdue in the ever-changing performance boating environment where increasing speeds have created an entirely new set of challenges.

& JACKIE JONES IN KING OF CLUBS (2009)

With some participants content to cruise at 55 mph in their open cockpit sportboats and enjoy the scenery, others are pushing the throttles to 150mph, where the only scenery is tunnelvision. We all know the potential threats inherent with high-speed boating and as the founder of this club, I have no desire to sit back and watch our sport get ruined. Another high speed boating collision on a poker run like the tragic accident on Lake Texoma seven years ago could bring an untimely demise to our sport. These events enrich our lives with adventure and passion, and provide wonderful outcomes such as raising money for children’s charities and generating commerce for the marine and tourism industries. Being pro-active is the only way to MEET the challenges and not just TALK about them. Therefore, I have launched our new FPC Strategic Safety Management Initiative, which encompasses a stronger stance on maintaining the safety guidelines already in place, enforcing the use of appropriate safety gear, and most importantly, providing a higher level of emergency response on all FPC events. I urge you all to join me in this mission. See you in Miami!

ith the thorough special edition of Powerboating In Paradise dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Key West Poker Run, there’s really no reason for me to provide a closer look at the 20-year history of the greatest poker run on the planet, which is what I had anticipated doing with this story. Within the official program for the 2012 event, Stu Jones, president and founder of the Florida Powerboat Club, did an excellent job taking us through the years since he organized the first poker run to the popular island destination for the 20-plus Sonic owners in 1993. So, as a participant in the anniversary run, I figured my “job” was to enjoy myself, take in as much as I could in four days and then attempt to explain why the poker run has become the event club members—and many more—plan their year around. Then I thought who the heck am I to tell you why the Key West Poker Run is so attractive to performance boaters? Rather, I’ll let one of the most revered Florida Powerboat Club members explain why. “There’s nothing better than Key West—the poker run has provided a lot of fun for a lot of people,” said Jim Lee, who brought three boats to the 20th annual poker run—a 35-foot Cigarette, a 46-foot Skater and a 65foot Johnson motor yacht. “I always enjoy going because the run down is great; then you get there and you have Duval Street, all the nice hotels and you get to see so many friends you’ve made over the years. It’s just a blast and Stu and his crew do a good job trying to keep everyone happy. It’s hard to improve on perfection, but he and Jackie keep making the event better.” Lee, who is from Wichita, Kan., remembers taking Freedom US-1, the

46 Skater, on its first poker run to Key West in 2001—and he’s been down there every year since. Lee and the classic Skater weren’t new to Key West as the offshore catamaran was a world championship race boat Lee competed in alongside the late Bob Morgan. The boat raced as Zero Defect then Big Thunder before Lee converted it into a pleasure boat and had The Art of Design’s Dean Loucks repaint it with the instantly recognizable American flag graphics. “Yeah, I always watch the (Super Boat International Key West World Championships) every year—that’s another reason I enjoy the poker run,” Lee said. “Sometimes I even take my boat out and do a lap in between races for the fun of it. That always brings back some great memories.” Marine Technology Inc. (MTI) owner Randy Scism, a regular at FPC events, said that he had the most fun he’s ever had going to Key West. But here’s the thing. Because he’s spent the last decade or more racing alongside Bob Bull and other notable drivers at the world championships, Scism hadn’t ever done the Key West run before. Yeah, go figure. “I’ll tell you what, that was an extremely good poker run—we had a ball,” said Scism, who drove down in Bull’s 48 MTI and spent a lot of time in the company’s prototype SV42 center console, including taking the 42-footer to Boca Grande Key for Saturday’s fun run. “The run is just so different than any of the others I’ve been on. It’s the best one in my opinion. Stu and the guys do a great job with it. We went down with a great group of people and had an absolute blast. “It’s always fun when we go boat racing, I mean winning a world championship is like being on top of the continued on next page POWERBOATING IN PARADISE 7

world, but I had so much time to see and do things and visit with people because we weren’t racing,” Scism continued. “Of course I followed all the racing closely while I was there. I’m trying to figure out how to do both next year.” If anyone can give Scism advice on how to do that it’s Italian offshore racer Marco Pennesi, who competed in the Superboat Extreme class in his Metamarine Corse TNT 46-foot V-bottom. A Powerboat P1 Evolution class world champion and owner of a food-processing machine manufacturing business, Pennesi also brought his Metamarine TNT 48 Monte Carlo, a beautiful diesel-powered boat based off the hull of the substantial race boat he designed and built, and did the poker run on Thursday—his off-day between races. “For me, the poker run from Miami to Key West was a success,” Pennesi said. “We don’t really have any poker runs in Italy so for us it was fantastic to start the run with everybody and finish in Key West with everybody. Our boat was running exceptionally well all week and I think we showed that there is a future for diesel-powered performance boats in America.” Pennesi, who said he plans to return to Key West in November despite the logistical challenges, seemed to have the most fun when he took the TNT 48 Monte Carlo out for Saturday’s fun run. “It was so impressive to see all the boats beached like they were,” he said. “We weren’t sure we could go on the beach because we weren’t used to doing anything like that. But we did it and everyone there was so happy for us.” Along with the fun Boca Grande beach party, Chris Bradley said it’s the gorgeous

run that starts among the Miami high-rises and works its way through the mangroves and past countless scenic islands before hitting pay dirt in Key West that makes him return each year with friends and family. Although the Austin, Texas, resident did say that the activities in Key West are enticing, too. “Once you get down there, you’re never at a loss for something to do—plus you can run your boat whenever you want,” said Bradley, who owns the 4000 Roadster Team Rainmaker from Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats with twin Mercury Racing HP1075SCi engines. “Between the poker run village, everything happening on Duval and the races, we always have a great time. It’s almost like a reunion, you know everyone is going to be in Key West.” David Tievy, who is from Annapolis, Md. and has been an FPC member since 2001, said he brings more and more people to Key West with him each year. Vice president of Super Communications Inc., a club sponsor that specializes in government communications systems and equipment, Tievy usually brings his two Fountain Powerboats models—a 48 Express Cruiser with triple 480-hp Yanmar diesel engines couple with Arneson ASD-8 surface drives and a 42 Lightning with twin 1,350-hp Sterling Performance engines—with him to Key West. This year was no different. “It’s amazing how everyone converges in Key West,” said Tievy, who drives the 48-footer in the poker run and has the 42footer towed to Key West so he can use the boat while in town without putting too much stress on the engines. “I swear it’s like the party of the century every year I’m down there. There are a lot of people like me who are just looking to blow off some steam and run their boats widecontinued on next page 10

open. I’ve been a pace boat a couple of times so I have the route down pretty well now. It still amazes me that the club is able to bring that many people on the water safely from point A to point B.” More than 150 boats completed the poker run in November, and what’s cool is that quite a few of the participants did the run for the first time. Former professional racecar driver and team owner Leighton Reese was one of the first-timers in his Sunsation Boats 32 with twin MerCruiser 496 Mag HO engines. Although he is from Minnetonka, Minn., Reese splits time between Minnetonka and his second home in Fort Myers, Fla. He admitted that his first poker run was pretty intimidating. “I have a lot to learn about ocean boating,” said Reese, who wanted to make sure FPC member Jorge Arellano was recognized for helping him find his way throughout the 160-mile run. “We picked the Indy 500 of poker runs for our debut—it was a humbling experience that’s for sure. Still, we had a heck of a time and going by boat was a fun way to get there. We’re going to do it again and I’m sure it will only be better next time.” Another first-time participant who is likely to add Key West to his annual events calendar was Chris Heule, owner of the stunning 42 Ultimate from Statement Marine dubbed Invitation Only. Powered by twin Mercury Racing 1100 engines, Heule’s 42-foot V-bottom with Statement’s patented air cushion cockpit provided a smooth ride no matter what conditions it encountered from Miami to Key West. “I had a great time running Invitation Only in the Key West Poker Run,” said Heule, who lives in Clear Lake, Texas, with his wife Erika. “It’s one of the best I’ve ever done. It was so cool to see everything focused on boating down there. Between the Conch Republic and the nightlife, we had so much fun.” 12

POWERBOATING IN PARADISE

Kevin Primmer (ONT) Team PERFECT STORM 35’ Fountain

Jeff Asbell (MO) Team SKATER 40’ Skater

One thing Heule wasn’t too enamored with was all the attention his boat received at the docks in front of the Conch Republic. But that’s something he is getting used to and will have to deal with even more so once the new Paramount Pictures’ movie “Pain & Gain” is released at the end of April. The boat is reportedly featured throughout the movie, which stars Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson and Ed Harris. For a final word, I asked Stu Jones what are the primary reasons the event remains so successful. “Let me begin by saying I am very proud of how far we’ve come. But the fact remains, without the dedication and continued support from our members, participants and sponsors, this event wouldn’t be half as successful as it is today.” JJ

POWERBOATING IN PARADISE

Rendezvous in Paradise THERE’S no question that one of the big highlights of the Key West Poker Run is the Saturday fun run to Boca Grande. Who can deny that beaching your boat on a remote island geographically closer to Cuba than Miami has all the elements of adventure and mystique. And when you put a hundred awesome powerboats along the same stretch of beach surrounded by luxurious yachts, it becomes the ultimate rendezvous in paradise. Even with high winds and forecast seas of four to five feet, the warm sun and stellar lineup of poker run boats and yachts made it difficult to ask for more.

The first wave of boats heading to Boca Grande started shortly after 11am. With John Woodruff ’s Windship helicopter under chase, the high-flying FPC crew got some fanastic photos and videos. At about 1pm, the Windship chopper settled comfortably on the sun drenched sand while a second FPC chopper (a yellow Jet Ranger) took flight to continue documenting the day. Be sure to check out the FPC website at www. flpowerboat.com for more great shots! The full length souvenir DVD will capture many of the highlights, so get yours by calling the FPC office. 6

That’s

For Sure! DEDICATED PERFORMANCE BOATERS MARK AND EILEEN FISCHER HAVE GROWN INTO ONE OF POWERBOATING’S MOST ENTHUSIASTIC COUPLES.

HANG OUT WITH MARK AND EILEEN Fischer at any Florida Powerboat Club event, and it’s hard to imagine that the outgoing, instantly recognizable husband and wife from Palm Beach, Florida, were actually once newcomers to the club. But they were. In fact, their first poker run was a rrough ough one as they joined the club in 2001 for an aadventurous dventurous ride across the Gulfstream to Grand Bahama B ahama Island in their 29-foot Powerquest. It wasn’t long before the Fischers, who live in Lake Worth, Fla., had upgraded to a 38-foot Powerquest, soon to be followed by some of the most remarkable offshore V-bottoms from Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats. The rest is history. As witnessed while joining the lovable Mark and Eileen and their two friends Mitch and Laura Lachowitz for the Key West Poker Run in the couple’s 36-foot center console from Deep Impact Boats, the Fischers are no longer newbies. continued on next page

MARK & EILEEN FISCHER Their premium dock space in front of the Conch Republic Seafood Company for the BoatsDirectUSA. com orange and white Deep Impact with triple Yamaha 350 outboards confirms that. Owners of OffLeaseOnly.com— arguably the nation’s largest used car dealership with two locations in Lake Worth and Miami—Mark and Eileen started BoatsDirectUSA. com in 2010 and have taken their knowledge from the car business to the marine market. Selling new, used and repossessed boats from companies such as Black Water, Contender, Deep Impact, NorTech, Ocean Hawk Powerboats and Statement Marine, the Key Largobased company specializes in handling all aspects of the boat-buying process. For someone who buys and sells as many as 1,000 cars a month and always seems to be running at 100 mph, it makes perfect sense that Mark, a self-made businessman from New York’s Long Island, would turn to performance boats to enjoy his downtime. “Boating is Mark’s release,” said longtime friend Carl Hansen, who is general manager of BoatsDirectUSA. com. “He’s out-of-control busy so when he gets away from the office, it’s usually to go boating. Mark and Eileen really enjoy boating and the camaraderie of poker runs. Starting the boat business was a natural progression and it’s doing well. We doubled our sales in the last year and we just bought Ocean Hawk Powerboats so we’ll be building some boats, too.” Mark admits that he and Eileen have fallen in love with the 36-foot Deep Impact they took delivery of 76

POWERBOATING IN PARADISE

in June and used at poker runs all over the country. That’s not an exaggeration either—just look at their shirts they made from their summer poker run tour. They’ve been to Canada, Texas, Alabama, New York, Georgia, Maryland, all over Florida, and even to The Bahamas (twice). They’ve really enjoyed the boat’s reliability and fuel efficiency, as well its performance and overall functionality. “I think this is my new favorite boat,” said Eileen, who was born in Miami and raised in New York. “I loved Eileen’s Fifty, but I really like this one. It’s more practical for us. We keep it behind our place in Key Largo and we can walk out, throw the dog on it and, you know, wear our shoes on it and not have to worry. It’s just easy.”

As usual, Mark is working on his next project though. He recently ordered a new boat from Nor-Tech. After checking out the company’s new 477 during the Key West Poker Run, Mark placed an order for the first 527 with a pair of Mercury Racing 1350 engines. He expects to have it in time for this year’s Key West Poker Run. “I fell in love with the 477 in Key West and have been wrestling with the idea of buying one since the poker run,” said Mark, who has owned a handful of boats from Nor-Tech, including the well-known 5000V Eileen’s Fifty. “I love the ride of the 50-footer so I told Terry (Sobo, Nor-Tech’s sales and marketing director) if they could make a 50 like the new 477, I was in. I’m really excited

about the new design.” Stu Jones, president of the Florida Powerboat Club, said it is people like Mark and Eileen that remind him why he started the club in the first place. “There’s no question that most FPC members are very enthusiastic about powerboating and poker runs, and indeed many would admit that it dominates their lifestyle,” Jones said. “That said, Mark and Eileen Fischer somehow managed to take this lifestyle to a whole new level. “The couple has made hundreds of friends over the years, and I look forward to many more years of their continued support…they have become lifelong, family friends.” That’s exactly what the Fischers love about the club and why they continue to support it. “It’s a great group of people,” Eileen said. “I mean where else can you go and take over the town and know everyone in the town? It’s kind of boring when you go away by yourself now.” Mike Sanz and his wife, Maggie, met Mark and Eileen on that very first run they did to The Bahamas. Sanz, who has owned 10 different Fountains, made sure the Fischers found their way across the Atlantic safely that day. “Mark and Eileen just love boating and they’re so much fun to be around,” said Sanz, who lives in Miami and owns a home near the Fischers in Key Largo. “We’ve done so many poker runs together and always have such a great time.” JJ Editor’s Note: Shortly after Jason’s submission of this feature, Mark & Eileen Fischer commissioned the build of their 2014 Nor-Tech 527 SPX vee, powered by Mercury Racing 1350’s. Stay tuned, as their passion rises yet another notch! SJ

NEW SAFETY PROGRAMS FOR

2013 FLORIDA POWERBOAT CLUB IS TAKING MAJOR STEPS TO ENSURE PARTICIPANT AND PUBLIC SAFETY IS NOT COMPROMISED By Stu Jones, President

As many of you are aware, through the recent outreach efforts I have been making to our FPC members, it is time to tighten up on the way in which we manage our safety programs on poker run events. It’s no secret to any of us that powerboating accidents continue to claim lives and injure innocent victims across the country. Offshore racing accidents in Key West claimed the lives of three individuals, many of whom we all knew personally... and it opened the eyes of organizers, to tighten up on their race management and emergency response measures. Closer to home, in April 2012, a remote accident in Louisana claimed the lives of a father and son that brought tragic news and shockwaves throughout the FPC family. While Leon and David Ortemond were merely testing their 36 foot powerboat in preparation for a poker run just a week later...it soon became evident, this accident may have easily occurred during a poker run event, in a group boating setting. Later in the year, during the Emerald Coast Poker Run, a non-particpating crew in the Destin area lost control of their powerboat, tossing four occupants into the water at substantial speed. One of the occupants submerged, out of sight from rescuers...and his body was later recovered. It is apparent that none of the occupants were wearing PFD’s. This was a tragic result, for what was otherwise a beautiful day of boating in Florida. These tragic incidents continue to occur across the nation, and it is my personal 78

POWERBOATING IN PARADISE

belief that poker run safety is being compomised, poker run events are starting to become “less safe” for two apparent reasons: (1) Participants who choose to NOT follow the safety management guidelines and (2) Higher rates of Speed.. like we have never seen before.

FPC STRATEGIC SAFETY MANAGEMENT INITIATIVE This is not just a new set of safety guidelines. This is a Completely New way to manage poker run events. The concept is based on the following additions to the existing format:

1) THREE Speed Groups • Sportboat/Sportcruising: 45-59 mph • Perfomance Class: 60-99 mph: • Hi Performance Class- 100-110 mph with full boat. Hi Performance Class 110-150 mph with driver/throttleman only. Writer’s Note- these speed guidelines have been in place since 2004.

One of the critical issues is boats with back-seat passengers travelling in excess of the speeds that are outlined in the poker run event insurance policies. These conditions clearly state, NO BACKSEAT PASSENGERS IF BOATS EXCEED 110 MPH. The key to the separation of these classes are as follows: (a) color-coded decals (b)

staggered starting, and (c) larger time intervals between group departures on the larger events. For the Sportboat and Hi-Performance classes participants will be required to follow and stay behind an official paceboat. For the Hi-Performance class, there will be no paceboat, and captains will be required to display satisfactory knowledge of the local waters, to ensure safe navigation and to not impede critical areas where other recreational boating activities are prevalent.

There will be NO CLASS for speeds above 150mph on ANY Florida Powerboat Club event. Boaters wishing to run these speeds will need to register with a racing association.

2) ON-WATER Patrols & Law Enforcement: In the state of Florida, the designated agency for patolling recreational boats on public waters is the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. (FWC) In recent years, Florida Powerboat Club was faced with the harsh reality of State cutbacks and limited presence of these public safety officers during FPC

FINANCIAL SUPPORT for the 2013 Strategic Safety Management Initiative: It is estimated that costs to initiate this safety program may only be covered through financial sources other than the standard poker run event fees. FUNDING for this program will therefore be sourced through corporate sponsorship, member contributions, fund-raising activities. A separate foundation is being considered after the first year of implementation.

Okaloosa County Sheriff’s office has played a vital role in maintaining safety at the Emerald Coast Poker Run. In addition, Floirda FWC will continue to have a stronger presence on FPC poker runs. events. In 2012, the program of Paid-duty was offered, and FPC began to contract with off-duty officers, who were given access to the FWC boats for these paid assignments...i.e. Poker run safety patrols. This program will continue through 2013...and FPC is naturally forced to budget for this provision. The pricing is reasonable, and it is our feeling that there is no substitute for a certified public safety official and the wealth of knowledge these officers have with respect to emergency response.

3) ON-WATER EMERGENCY RESPONSE: DIVE PARAMEDICS AND CERTIFIED FIRE RESCUE STAFF IN PLACE ON POKER RUN COURSE The objective is to have certified rescue divers on the poker run course during the most active sections of the poker run activity, where higher speeds are prevalent. The intent is to create a rescue team that may be similar to those used in offshore racing or the film industry. The biggest challenge is logistics, therefore a strategic plan will be implemented to permit best coverage. Additionally,

FPC is exploring communications options that will notify responders with critical information via vhf/phone/ texting protocols, about key information including channel marker information, lat/long coordinates and vital details about an incident. Along with a patrol of state and county officers, the plan is to have at least one or more fully equipped medical recue boats present.

4) NEW regulations for PFD’S: All participants will be required to wear PFD’s on powerboats registered for an event. Performance yachts or any boat designated at under 40mph will be exempt. All Hi-Perf class participants engaged in speeds above 100mph will be required to wear a Lifeline-style jacket with rigid construction and crotch/thigh safety straps to ensure jacket remains on torso.

Corporate Sponsors: A proportionate amount of funds derived from 2013 FPC sponsor programs will partially support this funding effort. Furthermore, sponsors may elect to designate (larger portions) of the funding they direct to FPC, towards this safety effort. Member/Participants: Poker Run registration will now include a “line item” entry on their poker run entry forms. The costs for program introduction are: • Sportboat/Sport Cruising: No fee • Performance Class: $150/event. • Hi Performance Class: $250/event

5) INSURANCE REGULATIONS: As always, as an entry requirement, boaters are obligated to have adequate liability coverages on their craft, and provide documented proof thereof. Typically, par ticipants provide a declaration page, although many of these documents present limited infor mation. FPC will be requesting all participants to have their insurance ag ents add Florida Powe r b o a t C l u b, a s additional insured, for all class Performance and Hi-Perfor mance class boats. Also, maximum speed limitations must be outlined on the policies. POWERBOATING IN PARADISE

ADVENTURE

STORY: STU JONES l PHOTOS: FPC ARCHIVES

IT’S NOT ALWAYS EASY TO explain to some folks why powerboating in Florida is so incredible. It motivates many enthusiasts to load their boats on trailers and haul them across an entire nation to take part in a Florida poker run. After several years of doing just that, FPC members George and Shannon Argyros, owners of a 43 Donzi ZR named “Donzilla,” finally decided that the boat would stay in one place. Florida of course. But that wasn’t enough for the

California couple, who have a young todler named George Jr, and own a string of vacation homes across the country. But it was time to add Florida to their list of vacation retreats, and eventually they settled on the very exclusive island of Useppa on Florida’s west coast, just north of Sanibel Island. They actually purchased the home from fellow members Frank & Milli Ricciardeli, owners of a bright gold 50’ Nortech named “Goldrush.”

That was step one. The next step involved getting a boat that was a little more family friendly. George turned to Scott Ryerson from Suncoast Powerboats, a longtime sponsor and supporter of FPC. “Their 43 Donzi ZR is great for poker runs, but with Mercury racing 700’s, it requires maintenance and is not exactly a daily driver.” Scott said. “I showed them a Donzi 35 ZFX Center Console with Mercury 275 Verados, and it was the perfect fit

Top: Team Donzilla being tracked by the FPC chopper on Key West Poker Run Left: The 43’ Donzi ZR with Mercury 700s Right: George, Shannon and little George at Vinoy Resort on Tampa Bay Poker Run. for family cruising around Sanibel Island. Just turn the key and go!” He went on to say, “Of course we had to trick it out for them, with new electronics, a killer stereo, and an inverter powered A/C for the cuddy to give them an escape from the heat.” For those who have met George and Shannon, all would agree that they are enthusiastic boaters and highly spirited when it comes to socializing with fel-

low FPC members—a trait that has made them big fans of the club. In fact, after their first two years of attending several poker run events, George stepped above and beyond his membership, saying, “Stu, I know it’s gotta be tough running this organization the way you guys do, and in this economy the marine trade really seems to be holding back on sponsor support!” to which I replied, “Indeed it can be a challenge!” That was in 2011,

and in the last two years George has volunteered significant donations to the club. George summed it up quite simply by saying, “Stu, my wife and I really enjoy this boating lifestyle and going on FPC poker run events. We just want to see you guys stick around for a long, long time, so we’re here to help in any way we can.” And to that, George and Shannon, we can only say...THANK YOU. SJ
