FLORIDA STATE GOLF ASSOCIATION Dear Florida Golfers, Thank you for supporting the Florida State Golf Association. As a member of the FSGA, you are helping us preserve and protect this great game. We must first recognize all of the FSGA Committee Members who make our service to the game possible. There are more than 500 Committee Members across Florida who assist with tournaments and course rating. The FSGA has become one of the premier state golf associations in the country because of these fine men and women. In 2019, the FSGA will conduct more than 600 days of competition including: 47 state championships, 48 USGA qualifying events and over 190 One-Day tournaments. The Florida Junior Tour (FJT) continues to provide competitive and affordable tournaments for the state’s top junior golfers. In its 17th season, the FJT consists of 40 events for boys and girls ages 9-18. If you have the chance, come out to see these unbelievable junior golfers! We hope you will join the FSGA as a Foundation Member and support the Future of Golf Foundation. The Foundation benefits the state’s juniors with college scholarships and assistance with travel expenses to state and national tournaments. We appreciate your support and dedication to the game of golf. Sincerely,
Steve Carter FSGA President

2018 PLAYERS OF THE YEAR AMATEUR PLAYER OF THE YEAR - GABRIEL LENCH Since capturing the 2014 Amateur Championship, Lench has found much success collegiality but had been struggling in 2018. Facing adversity again at the 101st Amateur Championship. Having held the lead on the back nine on Sunday , Lench found himself one stroke behind after Marc Dull birdied the par-5 17th hole. Lench came up clutch, hitting his approach to 6 feet and executing the putt to force a play-off. Lench would go on to win with a par on the second play-off hole. One month later, Lench found himself in familiar territory, but this time did not make it as interesting. Leading by one stroke heading into the final round of the 72nd Florida Open at Innisbrook, Lench never faltered. He kept a clean card on the front nine, while much of the field found trouble. On the back nine, he made his lone bogey on the 12th hole, but carded birdies on the 11th and 15th holes. The birdie on 15th put him two strokes ahead of Joe Alfieri. Lench would go on to win with a two stroke victory. He ended the summer with a runner-up finish with Chase Ibbotson at the Four-Ball Championship.
BOYS’ JUNIOR PLAYER OF THE YEAR – TYLER WILKES Wilkes earned Boys’ Junior Player of the Year honors following a season that included an FSGA Championship win and five FJT top-five finishes. He won his second-straight Boys’ Junior Amateur Championship in July at Laurel Oak Country Club. Entering the final round of the Boys’ Junior Amateur, he was four strokes off the leader, Alberto Martinez. Wilkes played his final six holes at five-under par to shoot a final round six-under 66 and bring home the win. For the championship, he carded a 10-under 206. Wilkes amassed 14,033 points over the season, the most by a Boys’ Junior Player of the Year since Brandon Mancheno (14,668) in 2015. The Tampa native competed in this year’s U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, after having qualified for the event at The Country Club of Winter Haven. Wilkes also advanced to U.S. Open Sectional qualifying. In five FJT starts this season, Wilkes did not finish worse than tied for fifth. His best finish came at River Strand Golf & Country Club, where he took home first place. He posted two runner-up finishes at Don Veller Golf Course & Club and Trump National Doral.

PLAYERS OF THE YEAR SENIOR AMATEUR PLAYER OF THE YEAR - PETE WILLIAMS Williams, the 2014 Senior Amateur Player of the Year, earned Play of the Year honors for a second time. Williams captured two Championships, the Senior Amateur Match Play, in June, defeating defending champion, Owen Joyner in the final match. Then in September, the Juno Beach native captured the Senior Four-Ball alongside partner Don Whittemore. He finished runner-up at the Mid-Senior Championship, with a closing 63 at Disney’s Palm Course, his most impressive round of 2018, and had a Round of 16 appearance at the Mid-Amateur Championship. He also finished tied for sixth at the Senior/Mid-Amateur Four-Ball, tied for fourth at the Senior Amateur and tied for T13 at the Florida Senior Open.
MID-AMATEUR PLAYER OF THE YEAR - MARC DULL Dull, the 2017 Amateur Player of the Year and Mid-Amateur Stroke Play Champion, picked up 2018 right where he left off. Outside of FSGA play, he won the prestigious Gasparilla Invitational at Palma Ceia, holding off a strong national field. In March, he finished tied for third alongside partner Jeffrey Horn at the Senior/Mid-Amateur Four-Ball Championship. Dull was victorious in May at the Mid-Amateur Championship at Coral Creek Club. In June, Dull jumped out to an early lead at the 101st Amateur Championship, and battled to hold it through the entirety of the tournament. Lench would make a crucial birdie on the 18th to force a play-off with Dull and eventually defeat Marc on the 2nd play-off hole. In USGA Championships, Dull saw success again, advancing to the final match of the US Four-Ball Championship with partner and 2016 Mid-Amateur Champion, Chip Brooke. He also advanced to match play at the US Mid-Amateur Championship.
