It is upon this evocative nature and the wonderfully expressive art of creating individual fragrances that we have built the foundations of our perfumery and 9 generations later this is at the forefront of our minds.

We are delighted to introduce ‘Palm Springs’ to the Private Collection, a new and captivating fragrance created with Savile Row fashion tailoring house Spencer Hart, which evokes the exhilaration and excitement of Hollywood’s desert playground in the 1950s. We were drawn into such an exciting partnership through our love of craftsmanship. The art of tailoring and specifically the work of Spencer Hart is an ideal synergy for the home of British Perfumery.

A new Special Edition Home Fragrance, ‘Lavender & Mint’ takes its inspiration from the beautiful herb garden at “dear old Ivy Lodge”, the cherished family home where Mary & James Bodenham-Floris lived for over 50 happy years with their 16 children.

Also new to our catalogue is ‘Soulle Ámbar’, our latest oriental fragrance line addition – harking back to Mediterranean memories of our founder Juan Famenias Floris, who’s early roots in the island of Minorca formed the inspiration for this oriental fragrance.

In collaboration with Harrods and in celebration of Floris being their longest ever serving supplier we are delighted to announce the upcoming launch of two oud fragrances to the Private Collection, available later in the autumn, Honey Oud and Leather Oud. Using one of the most revered woods and ingredients in perfumery, we expect these fragrances to become modern Floris icons.

Introduced in 1979 Elite was named after Lotion Elite – a scented Floris after shave cream which first featured in our brochure of 1851.

Lavender and fir balsam with a touch of bay are key to the character of the heart and are reinforced by the woody notes of patchouli and vetiver.

The mellow woody notes are enlivened with a cool citrus twist of bergamot, lemon and orange punctuated with the green resinous notes of cedar leaf and spicy juniper berry.

Mossy notes then play a leading role as the fragrance evolves with amber, musks and a hint of leather in the base.

grooming A successful wet shave is both a ritual and an art. By following these instructions a smooth, close and satisfying shave can be achieved.

Thoroughly wash the face with hot water to cleanse the skin and soften the beard.

Dip a good quality shaving brush in hot water, shake off excess and using Floris shaving soap or cream work up a lather over the areas of the face and neck to be shaved. The process of lathering with hot water will further soften the skin and also set up the beard prior to shaving.

Finish by rinsing off with cold water to close the pores and apply aftershave or alcohol free aftershave balm. Rinse the brush gently but thoroughly in clean water, flick off the excess water and place the brush in a stand with the hair pointing down. If you do not have a stand, leave the brush pointing up rather than horizontal, so that air can get to all the hairs and dry the brush naturally.

Shave in the direction of the beard, starting below the sideburns and working down each side of the face towards the chin, finishing at the neck. Let the razor glide over the skin, without applying too much pressure. For a closer shave, re-lather and shave across or against the beard. Always use a sharp blade as a worn blade will irritate the skin.

for him & for her In the early days of Floris, fragrances were not catagorised by gender meaning that gentlemen and ladies wore the same scents. It was not until the 1920s that people began wearing fragrances specifically created for men or women.

The scents found over the next few pages hark back to that time when a fragrance was simply a fragrance and if you liked it, you wore it.

Originally composed in 1796 by James Floris, son of the founder Juan Famenias Floris, it was conceived as a result of the many society weddings taking place in the local area in St. James.
