The Future of Stem Cell Therapy:

As a pioneer in regenerative medicine, I’m excited to share how stem cell therapy is evolving. Traditionally, this treatment involves injecting Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) and bioactive biomolecules from Wharton’s Jelly of the umbilical cord into damaged tissues. The results have been promising, particularly for connective tissue repair. However, the current methods have several challenges that I’m committed to overcoming.

Challenges with Current Stem Cell Therapy:

One major issue is the cost. Each injection can range from $5,000 to $12,000. This high price reflects the expenses of medical facilities, providers, and materials, making it inaccessible for many people.

Another challenge is the downtime. After a traditional injection, patients often need to rest for 1-2 weeks, which can be a significant hurdle for athletes and fitness enthusiasts who don’t want to pause their routines.

Additionally, the invasive nature of the injections brings risks of infection and potential tissue damage. The procedure involves penetrating the skin with a needle, which can introduce infections and cause harm to surrounding tissues, complicating the healing process.

Introducing RheeGen: A New Era in Regenerative Therapy:

To address these issues, I’ve developed a revolutionary technology called RheeGen. This innovative approach offers the regenerative benefits of traditional stem cell therapy without the associated problems. Here’s how RheeGen makes a difference:

1.Cost-Effectiveness: RheeGen drastically reduces the cost of treatment. By being designed for at-home use, it eliminates the need for expensive medical facilities and professional administration. This makes it a more affordable option for many.

2. No Downtime: Unlike traditional methods that require weeks of rest, RheeGen allows you to remain active during its one-month treatment protocol. This is particularly advantageous for those who can’t afford to stop their physical activities.

3. Risk-Free Application: RheeGen uses a topical transdermal agent to deliver regenerative materials through the skin, avoiding the risks associated with injections. This means there’s no need to worry about infection or damage to tissues from needles.

The Path Forward:

RheeGen represents a major leap forward in regenerative medicine. This topical transdermal regenerative cream offers a safer, more affordable, and convenient alternative to traditional stem cell therapy. By addressing the limitations of current practices, RheeGen has the potential to make advanced treatments more accessible and effective for everyone.

If you’re interested in learning more about RheeGen, I encourage you to reach out to your local chiropractor. As we continue to advance in regenerative medicine, innovations like RheeGen are poised to transform healing and recovery, making cutting-edge treatments available to more people.

The Science Behind Runner’s High

For many runners, there's a magical moment during or after a run when everything feels effortless. This feeling, known as "runner's high," is a euphoric state that can make running feel almost addictive. But what exactly causes it?

Runner’s high occurs when the body releases endorphins, the brain's natural painkillers, in response to prolonged physical exertion. These chemicals reduce pain and promote a sense of wellbeing, leading to feelings of euphoria. However, recent research suggests that endocannabinoids compounds similar to those found in cannabis may also play a significant role. These molecules are released during exercise and are thought to contribute to the calming, blissful sensations runners report.

Not every runner experiences this high, and its occurrence depends on factors like fitness level, run intensity, and even genetics. While some may feel it after a short jog, others may need longer, more intense runs to trigger it.

Beyond the immediate joy, the runner’s high also has long-term mental health benefits, reducing anxiety, stress, and depression. For many, the euphoric rush is a powerful motivator to continue running, reinforcing the positive cycle of physical and emotional well-being.

Taking Off Holiday Pounds

We all have a tendency of overeating and picking up a few unwanted pounds during the holiday season. Runners and Triathletes who want to slim down after enjoying a robust holiday season should NOT eliminate meals or skip post-workout snacks. Taking these shortcuts could result in leaving you feeling sluggish and hangry!

Instead, try one or more of these tried-and-true strategies to help return to your ideal “fighting” weight:

1. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Most people need at least 4 – 6 bottles of water a day, every day. Most athletes need even more – this is particularly true here in Florida.

2. Cut out all junk food. Eat real foods, not junk food. Anything that’s packaged and heavily processed should not be on your shopping list.

3. Reduce the size of the portions with each meal. Don’t eliminate the meal, just shrink the size of the portions. Your appetite will adapt.

4. Eat on a schedule. Consistent mealtimes help establish a sense of everyday normalcy. There is a myth that if you eat past 7 p.m., you automatically gain weight. That’s not true but try to eat consistently and well-balanced throughout the day so that you are full, satisfied, and don’t overeat at night.

5. Employ smart food swaps. Think about choosing something higher in protein and higher fiber, such as one scoop of ice cream topped with fruit and crushed nuts instead of a brownie ice cream sundae or consider brown rice instead of pasta.

6. Do some sort of strength training. Sometimes when you lose weight, you lose fat and muscle. To avoid losing some of that muscle, resistance training is the key. You don’t need a fancy weight room you can incorporate resistance training using your own bodyweight – such as pushups, pull-ups, dips, sit ups, squats, lunges, etc.

7. Slow down at mealtime. Sit down at the table, turn off the phone and television or other distractions, pay attention to how good the food tastes going down, and enjoy every bite. As a bonus, drink 8 ounces of water when you sit down for every meal before you take a bite.

8. Finally, love what you’re doing. Any exercise program is supposed to be fun. Your holiday weight will come off if you’re consistent with the strategies listed above.

WHAT A YEAR WE’VE BEEN THROUGH

Thanksgiving and Christmas are rapidly approaching. Know what else is approaching, as I pen this article? Yup: another tropical storm/potential hurricane into the Gulf with a probable U.S. landfall yet again. My family moved to Florida in 1950. The only other comparable year I can recall for hurricane strikes in Florida was the Charley/ Katrina et al year. Hopeful this final? Storm of the 2024 cycle will weaken, go away, and do no more damage anywhere.

Cycling on the west coast of Florida continues to be problematical due to massive amounts of debris remaining on the ground, blocking trails and roadways. Punctures are almost the norm now, with all the construction/destruction on the roads. Airless tires are a great Christmas gift idea (perhaps for yourself). Another cyclist gift idea: insurance for your bike. With many models costing mid to high four figures, and five figure prices becoming more plentiful for high end and E bikes, specific insurance for your bikes should be at least explored. As we start to reinhabit the roads, remember the driver’s sharing those roads are even more stressed, and less likely to appreciate the science of road sharing. Presidential politics will also have a lingering effect on everyone on the road. Your bike is perhaps not the best vessel with which to advertise your political proclivities. Defusing, not adding to stress of those on the road is a solid idea. Regardless of who “wins” the election, the tensions from the political battles will continue. Be patient; be kind; no middle finger salutes; let’s start finding how to live with your neighbors with whom you will be sharing the road. Good luck. Behavior from now until January 20, 2025, will continue to be tested. Stay safe .

RUNNING WITH SCIATIC PAIN:

Navigating the Road to Relief

INTRODUCTION:

Sciatic pain, stemming from the irritation of the sciatic nerve, can be a formidable hurdle for runners. While the pounding of feet against pavement may seem counterintuitive, the relationship between running and sciatic pain is nuanced. Understanding this complex dynamic is crucial for runners seeking relief and a way to continue their passion without exacerbating their discomfort.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND SCIATIC PAIN:

The sciatic nerve, the longest nerve in the human body, runs from the lower back, through the buttocks, and down each leg. When this nerve is compressed or irritated, it can lead to the sharp, shooting pain characteristic of sciatica. Common causes include herniated discs, spinal stenosis, or muscle imbalances. Despite the challenges, many runners find ways to manage their symptoms and even use running as a tool in their recovery.

THE ROLE OF RUNNING:

Surprisingly, running can either alleviate or exacerbate sciatic pain, depending on the individual and their condition. For some, the endorphin release and cardiovascular benefits of running can help reduce inflammation and alleviate discomfort. However, for others, the repetitive impact and jarring motion of running can worsen symptoms.

TIPS FOR RUNNING WITH SCIATIC PAIN:

1. Consult with a Professional: Before lacing up your running shoes, consult with a healthcare professional to diagnose the cause of your sciatic pain. Understanding the root of the issue is crucial for developing an effective treatment plan.

2. Warm-Up and Stretching: Prioritize a thorough warm-up routine to prepare your muscles and joints for the demands of running. Focus on stretches that target the lower back, hips, and hamstrings to promote flexibility and reduce tension on the sciatic nerve.

3. Modify Your Running Form: Consider adjusting your running form to minimize impact. Shortening your stride, landing on the midfoot, and maintaining an upright posture can help reduce stress on the lower back and alleviate sciatic pain.

4. Cross-Training: Integrate low-impact exercises like swimming, cycling, or elliptical training into your routine. These activities provide cardiovascular benefits without the impact associated with running, allowing for active recovery.

5. Listen to Your Body: Pay close attention to your body's signals. If running exacerbates your sciatic pain, consider alternative forms of exercise or modify your routine. Ignoring warning signs can lead to prolonged recovery and worsened symptoms.

Conclusion:

Running with sciatic pain requires a delicate balance between maintaining an active lifestyle and preventing further discomfort. We at Physical Chiropractic of Tampa Bay understands Sciatic Pain and can help you with joy of running.
