Now – April 2 REGISTRATION: TASTE OF THE ARTS GOES WILD (April 9) Register for a wild evening of Artwork from local artists showcasing a variety of mediums and age categories from the Fort Leonard Wood community. The cost is only $5 per entry for adults and FREE for children K-4, 5-8, 9-12 grade. Prizes will be awarded for the top 3 artists in each age category. The Art Show will be held April 9th at Piney Valley Golf Course from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm and there is no cost to view the art work. Enjoy beverage/food tastings/demonstrations and music provided by 399th Army Jazz Band and children of the SKIES program. Judging will take place prior to the event. All art work entered must be originals and within the last year and dropped off at the MWR Frame Shop by April 2nd Categories are; Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Photography (w/ 3 categories) and Motley. Now – April 10 REGISTRATION: SPRING WEIGHTLIFTING CLASSIC (April 11) Davidson Fitness Center invites you to come out and bend some bars as we host our Fort Leonard Wood Spring Weightlifting Classic. Competitors are separated by age and weight classes; rules mirror USA Weightlifting. Open to the public 16 years of age and older. Cost $12; Registration opens at Davidson Fitness Center March 9 through 9:00 pm on April 10. Weigh in's will be conducted April 11th 8:00 am-10:00 am; and the events starts at 11:00 am. For information contact Todd Angel at 573-596-4359. 15 April REGISTRATION: 9 HOLE TWILIGHT LEAGUE TOURNAMENT The Piney Valley golf Course would like to invite you to participate in our “Twilight League 9 Hole Tournament!” There will be two different tournaments; each lasting 10 weeks. The 10 week tournament registration fees are $25 for a 3 person team or $30 for a 4 person team, or you can register for both tournaments; (20 week) registration fee is $50 for a 3 person team or $60 for a 4 person team. (Price does not include weekly $6 green fee, or optional $6 cart fee) Tee Time is 5:00 pm (Wednesdays). Registration begins 15 April. Open to the public, age 16 and older. Get your team of up to 6 players together and come out for a fun, challenging night of trivia. Test your wits at this interactive Trivia Night filled with challenges and laughs; enjoy good company, food and drinks at the Pershing Community Center. Winning team will be named “Trivia Master”. Register by 3:00 pm April 17 cost is $20 per team for advanced registration, or $30 per team of up to 6 members on the night of event. Open to the public ages 21 and older. Now – April 24 REGISTRATION: YOUTH SPORTS ~ COACH ASSISTED MACHINE PITCH / BASEBALL / SOFTBALL & T-BALL CYS Services Youth Sports and Fitness Coach Assisted Machine Pitch, Baseball, Softball and T-ball program begins May 11. Cost is $45 per participant, includes uniform and trophy. Youth must have a current physical, good through the end of the season, turned in with registration. Now – May 1 REGISTRATION: SPRING MWR YARD SALE Whether you are getting rid of old treasures or looking for a bargain, you can do both at the Fort Leonard Wood Spring MWR Yard Sale! Sale will take place on May 2 from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm at the Baker Theater auxiliary parking lot. Cost is $15 if registered by May 1 at 3:00 pm / $20 day of, and includes double length parking lot size space and lots of advertising. Tables are available for $5 each and must be reserved in advance. Now - Apr 30 ADVANCED GREENS FEES CAMPAIGN Piney Valley Golf Course is gearing up for the 2015 golf season with their Advanced Greens Fees Campaign. Eligible personnel may purchase advanced single or family greens fees for the period 1 April 2015 - 31March 2016 (less the partial closing for the winter season tentatively scheduled 202015 – 13 March 2016). Advanced greens fees may include immediate family members residing in the home; for example a spouse, minor children and other legal military dependents. A family member who is enrolled as a full time student may be included in the advanced greens fees package. Parents, grandparents, and other family members not residing in the home and are not a legal military dependent are not eligible for inclusion. Patrons who pay their Advance Greens Fees in full by the end of April will receive a 10% discount off the total green fee cost. Advance Greens Fee patrons also receive Reciprocal Cards for play at local Golf Courses and discounted prices off selected local tournaments and events. The 2015 golf season runs April 30, 2015 to March 31. 2016. Piney Valley Golf Course is open to the public. Advanced Greens Fees can be paid in installments. For more information call 573 329-4770. April 3 MAD HATTER PARADE & BALLOON LAUNCH Children of the Child Development Centers and the School Age Center will kick off the Month of the Military Child with their annual Mad Hatter Parade and Balloon Launch. This is a great class taught by photographer Mike Curtis who will show you the techniques to process the perfect picture. Class is 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Cost is $15 to register, $65 day of class. Each student must bring a photo ID, Eye & Hearing Protection, and either a Semi-automatic handgun or revolver (Plus 40 rounds of ammo), lunch money or food. Handgun must be in good working condition. Class is open to the public, 19yrs or older (18yrs if a member of the United States Armed Forces). Learn to mat, mount, and secure your artwork in a frame. Students are introduced to frame shop equipment and safety procedures. CHILD, YOUTH & SCHOOL SERVICES 573 596-0200 CYS SERVICE SPECIAL OPENING - RESPITE CARE Deployment Respite Care is available for children registered with CYS Services whose parent/sponsor is deployed, on TCS, PCS or TDY (90-179 days) orders or a Service Member of the deployed unit. Sixteen free hours of care is available per month, per child, during the deployment. A copy of the Service Member‘s orders must be provided. The CDC opens twice a month for this service. The normal cost of hourly care is $4 per hour; payment must be made in advance. This service may be utilized by other patrons whose children are registered for hourly care. Reservations are required and may be made up to two weeks in advance. Care is available for children 6 weeks - 5th grade. Due to space limitations, paid reservations may be bumped to make room for deployed Service Member‘s reservations. If this should occur, advance payments will be refunded. Starlighters School of Dance offers instruction on Fridays in preschool ballet, tap, and jazz, junior hip hop, and hip hop for school age children and youth. Cost is $40 per month. Music and Movement – includes activities like creative movement, finger plays and hands on activities with child sized instruments. Available for children ages 3 -5 years. CYS SERVICES- THE “I’mAlone” PROGRAM CYS Services offers I’mAlone, a FREE program to help prepare youth to stay home alone. Youth will learn to increase personal safety skills, demonstrate responsibility and other positive character traits, recognize and handle emergencies, identify a Family & Friend Support System, prepare nutritious snacks, and practice good decision making. Workshop is held every 3rd Saturday at School Age Services, for youth ages 11 to 18yrs and parents. A $20 deposit is required and will be fully refunded upon completion of the program.
