MtSS activity timeline 2013 May
January
We undertook regular hospital-visiting for a chief engineer suffering a serious gall bladder infection at Gleneagles Hospital.
March A chief engineer had died on board a ship and we assisted with medical services and held prayers for the crew.
We counselled a crew who were concerned that a potential EU ruling on training in the Philippines would cost them their jobs.
July We supported a crew whose air conditioning had been turned off, leaving them suffering in 100F temperatures. Our chaplain raised the matter with Port State Control. The company had turned off the unit to save money.
Captain Lee Wai Pong, our chairman, completed a gruelling 100km ultra-marathon to fundraise for our work.
November Two Chinese seafarers are injured and lose limbs. MtSS worked closely with the ITF to help and undertook hospital-visiting. International Drop-in Centre nearing completion.
April December August February We received donations of clothing, shoes and other items from the church community.
June We held our Annual General Meeting.
October We held a ground breaking blessing service for EZRA Holdings in the port, to pray for the land.
We held an exhibition at St George Church to raise awareness of our work and took part in Seafarers’ Sports Week with the MPA. Sea Sunday in Singapore raised over S$72,000. The Port Welfare Board met and discussed the new seafarers’ centre.
Vessel arrested – we provide fresh food and emergency assistance: “We’re thankful to the Mission for acting decisively.”
