Love and life is a struggle in paradise: welcome to Limón. Ramiro leaves the British drizzle and his beloved fiancé Yoss to investigate his family history back home in Costa Rica. What starts as an innocent fascination with an old family photo album leads to conversations with the older generations and revelations he is not prepared for. This intimate and evocative graphic novel uncovers a family secret, set against the idyllic Caribbean coastline in one of the most beautiful countries in Latin America. Author Edo Brenes weaves together the heartbreaking and humbling stories of three generations. Edo Brenes is an illustrator and animator from Costa Rica. Edo has worked as a lecturer at Veritas University and the Cambridge School of Art. In 2018 Edo won the Cheltenham Illustration Award for established artist with the short comic Lunday. In 2019 Edo won the Observer/Cape/Comica Graphic Short Story Prize with a version of what became the first chapter of Memories From Limón. 4

Scrappy young Jimmy is a pro wrestler in the making, and he’s up for taking on anyone and anything. From his own family, his schoolwork, wild animals and pirates, he’s challenging the world one small fight at a time, but can his hopes and dreams take him all the way to stellar success? Or will his fists finally get him into too much trouble? Jimmy aspires to be JIMMY RUCKUS, world famous featherweight. But living in his eleven-strong house means that Jimmy is the last thing on anyone's minds. He knows he’s destined for greatness, so he sets off to seek his fortune. What he finds are circus animals, painters, pirates and heavyweight champs, each one challenging Jimmy’s idea of success. By the end of it, Jimmy realises he has to decide whether living life fist first is all it’s cracked up to be. Lara Kaminoff is a cartoonist and book-slinger living in Seattle with her beloved and their cat, Creeper. She’s inspired by an endless parade of podcasts, the magical world of fungi, brilliant friends, climbable trees, and danceable floors. Right now she’s probably talking too fast, thinking too hard or trying to fix something that ain’t broke. 7

But one painting is incomplete, and the turtle needs Sandy’s help to finish it… Lorena Alvarez was born and raised in Bogotá, and studied Graphic Design and Arts at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. She has illustrated for Puffin Books, Faber & Faber, Usborne Books, Parragon, Boom! Studios, Nickelodeon and Disney. INTRODUCING TWENTY SEVEN Twenty Seven is a bold, new literary list to celebrate experimental writing in fiction and non fiction. It will launch in 2021 to champion breakthrough voices who have something important to say or a brilliant story to tell. This new list will appeal to a contemporary readership who want to read surprising, provocative and inspiring books. Nobrow has an established visual aesthetic in illustrated books and we’re excited to bring this to the form of the novel by merging with authors who love to experiment with the form of the content. Twenty Seven’s aim is to become home to the next great writing heroes who are not afraid to stand out from the crowd, and find their feet with an independent publisher not afraid to take a risk. Our small and curated list will grab readers and champion dynamic fiction and non-fiction writing.

Weaving together their stories and poetic voices, this subtly moving and playful verse novel questions how do those without a voice find freedom within the world of men? Valentine Carter grew up in a small village, escaped to the capital and now lives by the sea. They recently completed an MA in creative writing at Birkbeck, University of London, where they are now studying for a PhD. Pauline Campbell was brought up on Rice and Peas and Fish and Chips after her parents left the warm shores of the Caribbean, to settle in Britain. In this book Pauline will take the reader on a journey into where her generation has been. A generation of people who at their birth had no idea that the subsequent political events that were taking place throughout their young lives would lead to a tsunami of inequality. Pauline Campbell is a lawyer and writer who works with Hackney Borough and Waltham Forest Council. In 2016 her team won Litigation Team of the Year at the Lawyers in Local Government Awards and she also works as a Supervising Lawyer on The Windrush Justice Clinic. Pauline's short story Rice and Peas and Fish and Chips was published in The London Reader in spring 2020 and was adapted into her first full length non-fiction book. 35
