intro

I

t is great to be publishing a new book by Jon McNaught. Kingdom is a special book which has been a long time in the making, and Jon is back to his hauntingly beautiful storytelling best with this captivating new story. Through A Life is the silent debut graphic novel from Tom Haugomat. Like the book’s protagonist, you will watch a life’s joys and tragedies through the frames of the world around you. The second book in Alexander Utkin’s Gamayun Tales series, based on Slavic folk tales, is a joy to hold and a thrill to read. And finally Adam Boardman’s debut is a sweeping illustrated guide to the technical brilliance of filmmaking, from the very first nickelodeon to today’s CGI blockbusters. Each of these books is the culmination of years of work. We are so proud to publish them, and we hope you enjoy them and can feel the love and dedication of the people who created them. on McNaught returns with another beautiful graphic novel that makes the ordinary, extraordinary.

Meditative, thoughtful and visually arresting, Kingdom is a journey through the in-between places of the British landscape to the bleak coast. Jon McNaught graduated from the University of the West of England in 2007 with a degree in illustration. He now lives in Bristol where he works as a printmaker and freelance illustrator, and contributes comic strips to various publications including Nobrow, Art Review and Stripburger.

old through a series of poignant vignettes, Through a Life is a sweeping story of dreams, expectations, nature, and loss.

Rodney spends his life looking through. Windows give way to screens as he comes of age dreaming of what lies beyond Earth's atmosphere... This powerfully silent graphic novel by Tom Haugomat follows the saga of a boy who grows up to be an astronaut, just like he always wanted... until a fatal shuttle crash upends his life, and he begins to find solace in beauty here on earth.

Tom Haugomat is an illustrator whose refined, cinematic style is informed by his background in animation. He attended Gobelins and now works as an animated film director and a freelance illustrator for clients such as Le Monde, Revue XXI, and Air France Magazine among many others. He currently lives in Paris.

Dreamy Direction The American director, musician and actor David Lynch had a burst of productivity in the 1990s, with films such as Wild at Heart (1990) and Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me (1992). Lynch takes inspiration from dream logic, and with every project his works seems to become increasingly peculiar. Film critics often extract their own meaning from his films, painting them as subversions of popular culture or as surrealist art.

DAVID LYNCH

Lynch prefers informal and conversational auditions.

It's better not to know so much about what things mean.

Protective socks to prevent tarnishing floor polish. 14

The zigzag pattern previously appeared in Eraserhead (1977), adorning Alex's lobby.
