intro
W
hen Nobrow Press was founded in 2008 as a small press and screen-printing studio, our idea was to create a new publishing imprint which focused on visual and predominantly illustrated content. Making books proved to be hard work but we relished the challenge. Not everything has always worked out in the way we intended it to... but on the flip side, so many things have exceeded our expectations.
Investing in a new artist is an exhilarating experience and helping someone realize what is often a long standing ambition is genuinely rewarding. With our spring 2017 list, we’ve brought together a diverse and rich list of artists sharing their stories. Whether it is revisiting Robert Hunter’s surreal and bewitching love story (Map of Days) or Hamish Steele’s anarchic comic take on ancient Egyptian myths (Pantheon), I hope the reader will revel in the visual brilliance of any one of our books. S
uspicious salad, fighting hippos, and a golden willy – this could only be Hamish Steele’s hilarious (and definitely adult) retelling of the most famous myth in Ancient Egypt! The god Horus vows bloody revenge on his uncle Set for the murder of his pharaoh father – and so the great battle between the deities begins. Who will emerge triumphant and claim the throne of Egypt? Hamish Steele is a freelance animation director and illustrator from London. He graduated from Kingston University with First Class Honours in 2013 and since then has worked for clients including the BBC, Blink!Ink and Nickelodeon.

GARBAGE NIGHT Jen Lee
J
uvenile animals strive to survive across a postapocalyptic wasteland in this striking parable about the nature of freedom and friendship. Part Watership Down, part Akira, Jen Lee’s latest comic follows Simon, a dog, who lives in a barren backyard with his two best friends, Cliff, a raccoon, and Reynard, a deer. The unlikely gang spend their days looting the desolate supermarket and waiting for the return of the hallowed 'garbage night'. But rumour has it, there's a nearby town where humans still live. The trio join up with Barnaby, a mysterious stranger, and set off into the unknown…

collaboration between writer Jamie Rhodes and the National Trust, this unique graphic novel plunges us into the rich and often dark history of Scotney Castle in Kent.
Recreating the castle’s past from the Medieval to the Edwardian ages, five rising stars from the UK comics scene (Isaac Lenkiewicz, Briony May Smith, William Exley, Becky Palmer and Isabel Greenberg) have illustrated five short stories that mix fiction with fact, creating a visually striking graphic collection that is steeped in historical context.

DREAMING IS THE FASTEST ROUTE TO THE UNCONSCIOUS.
THE DRAWERS OF THE MIND REMAIN OPEN DURING SLEEP AND WE CAN RUMMAGE THROUGH THEM AS WE DREAM. A DREAM IS THE FULFILMENT OF A DESIRE...
... BUT IT ALSO IS THE WATCHDOG OF SLEEP.
THE DREAM DOESN’T JUDGE, IT DOESN’T CALCULATE: IT TRANSFORMS.
YOU MAY DREAM OF WATER... WHEN YOU’RE THIRSTY...
BUT YOU STILL HAVE TO WAKE UP TO DRINK.

HOW TO SURVIVE IN THE NORTH Luke Healy
ONE OF PUBLISHERS WEEKLY’S 'BEST BOOKS OF 2016'
O
ut now in paperback, Healy’s debut graphic novel compellingly weaves together true life narratives from the 1900s with a contemporary fictional story. Equal parts bleak and beautiful, this is a unique visual journey of love and loss that shows the strength it takes to survive in even the harshest conditions – whether that be struggling for survival in the Arctic or surviving a midlife crisis in the present day.
