THIS IS FLY

A community of teens staying true to ourselves, reppin’ who we are and expressing ourselves through the choices we make about different things in life.

And tune in to the teen freshest radio show, Fly Unplugged, every Saturday from 2-3pm on Hot 100 Fm and Galaxy Fm.

WHAT WE ARE ABOUT We are all about staying true to ourselves – being who we are, not who others think we should be and we hold on tight to what we believe in. So whether it’s friends or dancing, basketball or biology, football or rap – if it’s our thing we celebrate it and go for it. We’re champs and slayers… we make things happen. And when it comes to stuff that’s not our thing – like gossiping about our friends, giving up on our dreams, using tobacco or losing focus, then we’ll stay away from it and keep it out of our lives. We do all this by hanging out together, supporting each other and lifting each other up. We’re FLY – and we’d love you to be part of the movement.

For the dudes – rippe d jeans (preferably white), are in vogue best matched with white V-neck tees or just a cool tee. To kill off that look, a go ld chain, preferably light gold bling would not hurt. The Gucci and Versa ce slide sandals are also trending you know them; the ones with the labels. For the chics – high waist tight denim pa nts with a crop top are still a thing since 2012. Someone tell your mum that chokers are back fro m the 80s. Off the sh oulder tops will make you stand out too.

This fresh boy has been on our TV screens and stepping on stages for over 7 years now. What started out as a passion for young Talha in school is now his daily bread. Never one to chillax and wait for daddy’s dime, Talha has more than one grind. He is a TV & radio presenter, events MC, farmer and our favourite… an inspiration to many teens. I feel your pain bro, many teens that have a passion outside academics usually go through this hustle. For starters, communicate; ask your parents why they don’t want you to become a basketball player. Try and understand their point of view, and then tell them why your goals are important and why their support is important to you. Acknowledge their fears and worries. Try to get them to understand that your dreams are worth a shot. Still eliiso ly’omukulu, our elders know more than we do. They might be worried because sports isn’t a guaranteed profession as compared to other suit and tie hustles. For instance, if you get injured, if you are not on form then you can’t be the next Jordan or Lebron James. And in sports, 30 yrs is too old in most cases. Whereas in professions like doctors, lawyers and engineers, at 30, you are just getting started! No parent wishes an uncertain future for their child. On the other hand, which profession doesn’t have disadvantages?! Look here Aaron, if basketball is your thing, then go for it. Life is just much sweeter with education. I know it’s hard now, but do your best at both and when the right time comes (and you will know when), you will have the basketball skills and the papers to choose the life you want; between being pro ball player or corporate guy. For now, do yourself a favour, strike a balance with a pure and disciplined heart. Let’s get this clear… it’s important to never let that feeling go and to never let your childhood dream fade! If you’re sure it’s your thing, do it! Life is about making choices; think with your head and not your heart and when you live, live with all your heart. U GOT THIS CHAMP… The Fly Buddy and the teens are here to help. Send your zibs or your advice to facebook/FLY UG

Wish I knew nt. that life isn’t al l about being the cool kid. I spent so m uch time tr ying to pr ove my coolness . I wanted to be seen and ended up missing out on happiness. Silly me! 3. That no mat ter how sad yo ur life is going; happin ess is a choice. U choose to be ha ppy. 4. Wish I knew that baby fat go es. LOL! I actually spent so much time worrying abou t being chubby. Didn’t know I’d shape up into this fine model. 5. Wish I knew that disagreein g with someone does n’t make them a bad person or an en emy. Just means that you don’t ag ree and move on . As simple as th at, no hard feel ings. 6. Wish I knew that people will always gossip ab out you behind your back. Even your own friend s. Life isn’t about what happens to you, but rather , how you react to it. 7. Wish I knew not to trust ever yo ne. People have luga mbo! save actual money! I had so much money but it all never lived to see the next day… SMH! I ate it all! Haha I swear I’d be rich now. Sudhir would be washing my clothes! No lie! Saving then was just not my thing. 9. Wish I knew that my parents’ advice was for my own good and not to just be all up in my b’ness! A lot of that advice has worked for me now. Wish I realised it earlier at 15. 10. Wish I knew that gossiping doesn’t make u a better person. Wish I knew how wrong it was. Nga we talked about each other in shule banange. Talk about Jane’s funny hair with kaweke, how Cathy is mean with her grub, how Mbabazi has smelly armpits, how Natasha thinks she’s the hottest in class… eh! I gossiped! 11. Wish I knew that eating posho and beans every day and night would once end and I would also eat out at Javas or KFC whenever I wanted. I wouldn’t have complained as much. 12. Wish I knew that no matter how much teachers call you a failure, your future is completely in your hands. 13. Wish I knew that losing friends doesn’t mean that you’re a bad person. Just means that you are now growing up. You need more positive friends. 14. Wish I knew that every situation is only as bad as your mind makes you believe. It’s really never that serious. A clear mind makes the best life choices. 15. Wish I knew not to cry over spilt milk. Spent mob time whining over issues that were beyond my control. Just leave it to God in prayer!

Don’t just be there. Represent. Push yourself to your full potential. Let the world see what you’re made of. If you want something, go for it. If it seems hard, work at it. Learn. Fail. Learn again till you make it. Dance wildly. Laugh loudly. Feel kawa. Create your own swag. Holla at new buddies, and keep the old ones. Find your fun. Be happy. Do your thing. Fly.
