Goodbye Fat Celiac: What I’ve Learned I have not studied nutrition, this is not something I have gone to school for or that I get paid to do. All I have to offer is my tried and true tips for losing 85lbs. * Have real expectations and take it slow. Weight loss can’t and won’t happen overnight. * Set realistic health goals. “I want to run 5km” “Next year, I’m doing the Crossfit Open” “Let’s do six weeks strict paleo” these were all goals set in my house, and they have all been achieved. Set a goal and fight to reach it. * Focus on one change at a time. Pick one habit you want to change or establish and work your way up from there. Trying to do too many new things at once is counter-productive when you start to be discouraged. * Walk more. You hear this one everywhere and it’s true. Get up and move your body. It really works. * Find an activity you like and do it. For me this was Pilates, for J it was Crossfit. Find your thing and then go do it! * Try an activity you never thought you would like and give it your best. Once I started running I was hooked. I always felt like death warmed over in the beginning, but I cranked happy music and went for it because the way I felt after was simply put.. amazing! * Don’t be afraid to try new foods. Asparagus? Zuccini? Bone broth? Spaghetti Squash? Butternut squash? These were all things I had never, ever eaten before in my life. Now, I love them. * Spice it up. Try new spices on foods you’re starting to get bored of. Chicken breast is chicken breast is chicken breast until you add some spices. * Don’t be shy of healthy fats. Butter, coconut oil, nuts. These are all given a bad rap, but I have found they actually do more for me than against me. * Everything in moderation. If you constantly deprive yourself, you’re just setting yourself up for failure. Remember that Weight Loss doesn’t happen overnight, and that piece of gluten-free cake won’t make you gain ten pounds. * Accept that life happens. There will be set backs. Things like illness, pregnancy and major life changes can have an impact. Don’t let it bring you completely off the rails, but also don’t stress about a little bump or two. Author: mytwistedroots
