ERO Vine Trimmer STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE
1
Introduction FMR Group Ltd has developed a range of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for all FMR and ERO machines. SOPs make use of pictures and concise wording to clearly demonstrate key functions and maintenance requirements of FMR and ERO viticulture equipment. SOPs do not replace technical manuals, company specific SOPs, risk assessments and training systems. SOPs are handy tools in your personal preparation and understanding of the machinery you will operate. They have been created for your safety and to assist you in your job. If you require specific instruction, your first action must be to contact your immediate supervisor who will ensure you and your colleagues are safe and clear instruction is given.

Before lubricating for the first time, check whether there is paint on a grease nipple and, if so, remove it. Wipe grease nipples clean before connecting the grease gun so that dirt is not forced into the bearings. Make sure that all grease nipples and all bearings are allowing grease through. Replace damaged grease nipples with new ones. Do not inject too much grease. As a rule two or three squirts with the grease gun are sufficient. After lubrication remove excess grease from bearings and grease nipples.

If you want to store the Trimmer without its mast, all hydraulic hoses connected to the Trimmer must be fitted with plug-in couplings.
C
Disconnect the Trimmer’s plugin couplings from the controller, bundle them and secure them to the Trimmer. Take care that plug-in couplings don’t get dirty during storage. Then you can remove Trimmer from the mast & store it separately.
D
When reassembling always connect plug-in couplings with the same colour. Green -> Green Yellow -> Yellow … etc. Double check correct connection of the plug-in couplings.
MAINTENANCE
49
Maintenance/ Basics Maintenance The maintenance and commissioning of modern devices and safety-relevant components require qualified training and a workshop with special tools and test devices. The specialist has the necessary training, experience, equipment and original repair instructions. He will always offer you the least expensive solution. He will give you help and advice. Repair attempts by third parties or unauthorised persons will void the guarantee. The ERO Vine Trimmer is almost maintenance-free. However, during cutting work •• The saw blades, NOTICE •• The hydraulic hoses and Only genuine ERO spare parts may be used to •• The electric cables replace any parts, otherwise guarantee will be voided. should be checked regularly. The ERO Vine Trimmer Elite is practically maintenance-free. However, the turbo blades and V-belt should be checked regularly during the vine trimming work.
50
Maintenance/ V-belt The v-belts are to be checked regularly for the proper tension and re-tensioned when necessary. Always tension the whole unit from top to bottom! Checking V-belt tension
Push the v-belt through with a folding ruler: The measurement reading at the housing’s edge should be 30-35mm maximum.
Re-tensioning V-belt
Loosen the first bearing stack locking nut on the exterior of the side section with a fork spanner. At the same time, hold the bearing shaft on the inside of the vine trimmer with a fork spanner.
Tension the bearing stack by knocking the locking nut downward with a plastic-faced hammer. If the bearing stack slips out of its starting position after tensioning, then the locking nut was loosened too much: Tighten it somewhat and repeat tensioning procedure. Re-tighten the locking nut with a maximum torque of 50 - 55 Nm and open the next bearing stack. 51

Pressure-relief valve Duplex manifold block Leak-oil container
As soon as the pressure in the leak-oil hoses is greater than 4-5 bar, the pressure-relief valve (DBV) on the duplex manifold block opens. To relieve pressure, the excess hydraulic oil is released into the leak-oil container through a leak-oil hose. This prevents damage to the hydraulic motors. Check the level in the leak-oil container several times a day.
Leak-oil container emptying After cleaning the machine (or whenever necessary) empty the leak-oil container on the head of the Trimmer. 1.
Lift the leak-oil container upwards out of its holder, hold it firmly with one hand.
2.
Unscrew the lid and empty the leak oil out of the leak-oil container.
3.
Then screw the lid back on and replace the leak oil container in its holder.
Should you find an unusually large quantity of hydraulic oil has collected in the leak-oil container in a short time, then the leak-oil pressure in the system is too high. Reasons for increased leak-oil pressure: •• Too much hydraulic oil (incorrect setting of flow-control valve) •• Hydraulic oil too cold (temperature should be above 50°C) 52
•• Plug-in coupling on return line is not correctly assembled. •• The plug-in coupling on the return line is damaged. •• The return hose is kinked or crushed.
