AC Hotels looking at Town Center Tru by Hilton considering Southside

The 135-room AC Hotel Raleigh North Hills in North Carolina opened in 2017. The Marriott chain has six hotels in Florida comprising one each in Gainesville and Tampa and four in the Miami area.

The Marriott chain would be part of the fourth phase of St. Johns Town Center. AC Hotels by Marriott appears to be the hotel planned in St. Johns Town Center’s proposed fourth phase. JEA issued a service availability letter

Jan. 28 for AC Hotel Jacksonville at St. Johns Town Center. The project is described as a 118room AC Hotel with parking and a pool, which matches the size of the unidentified hotel property proposed at the regional shopping center. England, Thims & Miller Inc. is the civil engineer. Simon Property Group operates the 1.4 million-square-foot regional shopping center. It has not responded to a request for comment. St. Johns Town Center opened 15 years ago and completed its third phase, anchored by a Nordstrom store, in 2014. Construction is staged for the fourth phase which is designed among four parcels at the southeast side of the property at Butler Boulevard and Interstate 295. SEE MATHIS, PAGE 2

MORE HOTELS PLANNED Several hotels are in review in Northeast Florida. Here are two of the latest: SpringHill Suites in Baymeadows: The city is reviewing a permit application for SpringHill Suites by Marriott to build a $6 million, 120-room hotel in Baymeadows Park. No contractor is listed for the fivestory, 72,698-square-foot project on the 5.8-acre Baymeadows Park project at 7981 Baymeadows Road on the site of the former Baymeadows Golf Club, east of Interstate 95. Hotel planned on Western Way: JEA issued a utility service availability letter for a 79-room hotel on 1.4 acres along Western Way in South Jacksonville. It is on a parking lot next to the Ramada by Wyndham at 9150 Baymeadows Road.

Tru by Hilton is up to six targeted locations in the Jacksonville area with the newest proposed in the Southpoint area along Lenoir Avenue, plans show. The brand opened in the Town Center Promenade in January 2019 and has another under construction in Mandarin. Tru by Hilton spokeswoman Elisha McNeil provided a status update on the area plans: n Tru by Hilton Jacksonville St. Johns Town Center at 4640 Tropea Way in Town Center Promenade opened Jan. 15, 2019. It has 98 rooms. n Tru by Hilton Jacksonville South Mandarin is under construction at 2970 Hartley Road and is scheduled to open in winter 2021. It has 106 rooms. n Tru by Hilton Jacksonville Airport at northeast Ranch and Airport roads is being planned and will open in winter 2022. Plans show 105 rooms. The developer intends to build another hotel – a 103-unit TownePlace Suites – next door. n Tru by Hilton St. Augustine I-95 at County Road 208, west of the interstate, is being planned and is scheduled to open in summer 2022. Arlington Toyota building new dealership Arlington Toyota will transform its Jacksonville dealership property near northeast Atlantic Boulevard and St. Johns Bluff Road. The city issued five permits Jan. 29 for Stellar Group Inc. to build a new dealership showroom and renovate existing structures at 10939 Atlantic Blvd. at a construction cost totaling almost $11.9 million. Permits show Arlington Toyota will build a two-story dealership comprising 50,170 square feet of enclosed space and 9,017 square feet of unenclosed space; renovate its existing 36,381-square-foot dealership; renovate the collision center; and make other improvements.
