The fourth-generation neighborhood investor intends to redevelop the Hendricks Avenue building. The founder of Hollingsworth Showroom extended the Turner family’s San Marco presence by purchasing the former Knights of Columbus building for $875,000. “It’s because our family has been doing business in this area since 1942,” said Worth Turner on April 26. He said he has his eyes on the market for “any iconic building that comes up for sale.” Turner said he plans to redevelop the 9,000-square-foot building. it was built in 1963. Matthew Clark, senior director with Colliers International, represented WBT and the seller, Columbus Social Club Inc. He said the sale closed April 23. Turner said he would prefer a single tenant but will consider options, including retail or restaurant use.

The Bread & Board announced April 27 it would open The Bread & Burger, another aspect of its project at the Downtown VyStar Credit Union headquarters. The restaurant will be in the breezeway that runs from the 100 W. Bay St. building to Independent Drive, the news release said. It will focus on specialty burgers, fries and milkshakes. The news release said an alcohol menu would be added for happy hours this summer. Menu offerings include beef burgers, turkey burgers, crispy chicken breast sandwiches, spiced lentil patty burgers, kosher corn dogs and several varieties of french fries. Whataburger in review for Mandarin bank site The Ferber Co. is considering redevelopment of a former Wells Fargo bank site in Mandarin for a Whataburger restaurant, according to an application with the city. The city received a mobility fee calcuation certificate application for a 3,751-square-foot Whataburger on the 1.42-acre site at 10600 San Jose Blvd. The fee is calculated at $113,606 to support the traffic impact. Tom Mundy, Ferber vice president of development services, said April 7 the highest and best use of the site is as a restaurant with a drive-thru. “The site is in the heart of Mandarin with great access at a signal and frontage to San Jose Blvd.,” Mundy said.
