The Downtown site at 618 W. Forsyth St. has been identified for redevelopment as a Daily’s gas station and convenience store.
A former Downtown nightclub at West Forsyth and Broad streets is in review for demolition. Previous filings show the site is targeted for redevelopment for a Daily’s gas station and convenience store. The city is reviewing a permit application for Elev8 Land Clearing & Demolition to demolish and dispose of the building at 618 W. Forsyth St. at a cost of $49,500. The immediate plans after demolition are to grade and sod the site, according to a letter included with the permit application. The closed three-story, 10,000-square-foot structure built in 1914 has been known as the Eagle Laundry Building and also the Kartouche Night Club. In May, the Jacksonville Historical Society listed it as one of the structures on its annual list of the city’s most endangered SEE MATHIS, PAGE 2

Jacksonville-based Stellar Group Inc. announced that the majority of its workforce will work remotely full time from home, starting in the fall. The Jacksonville-based design, engineering, construction and mechanical services company said July 1 was its 35th anniversary. “This move comes at a pivotal moment as we celebrate our company’s 35th anniversary and look ahead to a new decade of change and progress both in our industry and the world,” said Stellar President and COO Brian Kappele in a news release. “This was a careful, strategic decision made after serious consideration by our firm’s leadership and by listening and collaborating with stakeholders across the company,” he said. The company plans to maintain its headquarters at 2900 Hartley Road, near San Jose Boulevard and Interstate 295 in Mandarin. “Although the majority of our corporate employees will work from home, Stellar’s corporate office location will continue to operate as a resource for employees, partners and clients,” Kappele said. Stellar said it has more than 700 employees. The company said the majority of its office employees already are working from home. About 350 employees typically would be at headquarters preCOVID. Now, it averages 40-50 employees a day.
