The plant-based products company is considering the closed Pei Wei Asian Kitchen space.

Buff City Soap is considering leasing the former Pei Wei Asian Kitchen in The Markets at Town Center and converting it into a store making and selling plantbased personal-care and household products. The city is reviewing a permit application for a $167,000 remodeling for Texas-based Buff City Soap in the 3,200-square-foot building. The structure, at 4849 Town Center Parkway, was built in 2012 for lease to Pei Wei, which closed in 2020. The contractor is shown as NNI Construction of Fort Lauderdale. The MT Studio of Troy, Ohio, is the architect. In a June 2 news release, Buff City Soap, a plant-based home and personal care brand franchise, announced it raised new funding from General Atlantic, a global growth equity firm. CSX Corp. reported betterthan-expected second quarter earnings and said in a July 21 conference call it is continuing plans to add workers to its rail network in the second half of the year. Jacksonville-based trucking company Landstar System Inc. also reported second-quarter earnings July 21 that beat analysts’ forecasts as economic activity rebounds from last year’s pandemic-related Foote shutdowns. Jacksonvillebased CSX said revenue jumped 33% from the second quarter of 2020 to $2.99 billion. The railroad company’s earnings of 52 cents a share included 12 cents in gains from the sale of certain property rights to the Commonwealth of Virginia for passenger rail operations. Excluding that gain, earnings nearly doubled from 22 cents a share in the second quarter of 2020. The results also beat the consensus forecast of 37 cents by analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research. In CSX’s conference call with analysts, CEO James Foote said the results show how well the company has rebounded from the COVID-19 pandemic. “As we enter the second half of the year, our focus is squarely on continuing this growth,” he said. “We have kept our yards and SEE EARNINGS, PAGE 2

New WDs liquor store, two Winn-Dixie stores planned Southeastern Grocers Inc. announced July 20 that it will introduce its new fine wine and liquor store concept and two new Winn-Dixie stores. The stand-alone wine, beer and liquor store, called WDs, will open in the Miramar Center shopping plaza at 4472 Hendricks Ave. before the holidays. Southeastern Grocers also will open two stores in St. Johns County. Opening this year is the St. Augustine Shores Winn-Dixie at 181 Blackford Way in Shores Village Plaza. Opening next year is a Winn-Dixie at southwest U.S. 1 and Race Track Road as part of the Grand Cypress development.
